View Full Version : Rockets Leaning toward Keeping Mcgrady..??!!

It’s been about eight weeks since the Rockets and used-to-be star guard Tracy McGrady parted ways, with Houston vowing to find a trade for McGrady. Over the last few days, a number of scenarios emerged—the most serious involving the Bulls and Knicks—and reports had McGrady’s departure from Houston seeming imminent.
But on Wednesday, sources told SN that the Rockets are now indicating they are leaning toward not trading McGrady—for now, at least. Houston, apparently, is unhappy with the offers it has gotten from the Bulls and the Knicks, which would involve the Rockets taking on too much long-term salary and not getting enough young assets in return.
The Bulls’ offer, reported in the Chicago Tribune, is the expiring contract of center Brad Miller ($12.3 million), plus forward Tyrus Thomas and either John Salmons or Kirk Hinrich. The Rockets don’t want Salmons, who has a player option for next season, and the remainder of Hinrich’s contract (he’s signed for two years after this season, at $17 million combined) is too hefty for the Rockets. The Bulls have been seeking a third team to make the deal work, but a source told SN that those efforts were not getting very far.
The Knicks’ offer centers on the expiring contract of Larry Hughes ($13.6 million), plus Jared Jeffries and a swap of draft picks. Contrary to reports, a source close to the negotiation has told SN that the Knicks have said they won’t part with rookie big man Jordan Hill in the deal, and if the Bulls are unable to sweeten their offer, the Knicks would have no reason to include him, because they’d be essentially bidding against themselves.
Of course, that’s one reason that Houston may be saying it’s going to pull out of McGrady dealings altogether—it’s a good smoke screen to give the Knicks some incentive to include Hill. If the Knicks are not bidding against the Bulls, the Rockets must make it seem that they’re bidding against something, and no deal at all is at least something. It’s no secret that the Knicks are desperate to unload Jeffries, because they would then be likely to have enough cap space this summer to make max-contract offers to two free agents, upping their chances at getting two of the top three (LeBron James, Dwyane Wade and Chris Bosh) players on the market this summer.
McGrady’s expiring contract is worth more than $23 million.

Sucks for the Knicks. They would end up keeping Jeffries and not have the cap space to sign 2 max players. The Knicks have to ask themselves is Hill really worth it....

Does any of these trades actually make the Rockets better?
Why don't the Rockets just wait until next season to let Mcgrady walk, and pick up one of the three big names in free agency.
I'm getting the idea that Morey just wants to put Mcgrady on a team that he really has no choice to be on.Just to put him through agony.
Who wants to be traded to the Knicks or the Bulls? Really..these teams are terrible to watch.I guess the Bulls are doing fairly well. They have potential in a couple years. With the Knicks your totally rolling the dice with these guys.

The Rockets don't have enough money left to sign a big name free agent.

Dude if we keep him or not we will not sign anyone in 2010,we will only have 8 millions, if we trade T-mac we can get some good players and make run possible for the 8th seed, in 2010 summer we will sign Yao and we will not have chance of signing any of those big names, why can't just anyone understand that.

Keep McGrady and Cook.
Trade Battier for an expiring.
Start Chase and let Taylor play behind him.
We'd only have 30 million on the books going into the summer. Enough to sign one max or near max player and resign one of Lowry or Scola.

We may not be in the playoff race this year, but we sure hold the key to two teams' 2010 free agency future.
Maybe RA, Les, and TMac can swallow their pride and compromise so that TMac can play out the last two months of this season. It's not like we're going anywhere with our current line-up. But TMac will have to play the good teammate and not make so many demands. Teams out there don't really want him that bad.

I'm not much interested in helping one of those two teams get two max free agents.
If the Bulls pull it off they could have Bosh + Wade + Tmac + Rose.
If the Knicks pull it off they could have Lebron + Stoudemire + Tmac + Lee.
In either of those cases do you really want their future draft picks from there?

Also, if Tracy's not being traded then just play him. If he gets hurt then it only validates why we're getting rid of him. If he plays well then at least we can give Rockets fans one last good show...then he can have another first round exit as usual.

I like it a lot better than the New York offer.
Again, I'd like someone to explain to me how helping Chicago get Wade and Bosh to go along with Rose and Deng while taking their relative trash + an expiring Thomas.
And even worse with New York, why would we want to help them sign Lebron and Stoudemire to go along with Lee and Galinari? For what? Players they don't want and future draft picks that will be worse than our own?
If you think either of these teams will have a top 10 pick after this off season then you are quite delusional. We'll be worse by far.
Not to mention that either team that gets McGrady will probably get him cheap next season to help as well...
I'm convinced that no deal is the best deal unless it's a deal that makes us a contender. Either of these deals makes us into the suckers aka Clippers.

Whoops, didn't finish that first sentence. Lol.
Let me try this again...
Again, I'd like someone to explain to me how helping Chicago get Wade and Bosh to go along with Rose and Deng while taking their relative trash + an expiring Thomas helps us more than them.
I mean, it only makes sense to make your competition better if you can somehow make yourself better than them in the meanwhile.

To me, this sounds like the Rockets answer to Clutch's tweet earlier today.
