The New Jersey Nets have talked to the Clippers about a possible trade that would send Stephon Marbury to Los Angeles for Keyon Dooling and second overall pick in Wednesday's draft, ESPN's David Aldridge reported.

Marbury is coming off one of his best seasons in the NBA in which he averaged 23.9 ppg and led the team in points, assists and steals.

The Nets, who finished a disappointing 26-56 last season, have the No. 7 pick in the first round of the draft.

The Miami Herald reported Tuesday that the Heat are also interested in Marbury, as well as Sonics guard Gary Payton. The newspaper cited and unnamed NBA official.

Marbury has four years left on a six-year, $70.9 million deal. A deal for Marbury probably would involve a third team and require Miami to part with Brian Grant or Eddie Jones, plus additional players, The Herald said.

I don't know if it will happen, but if I were the clips I would take that deal.

Poor Stephon.....a talented player, hopping from one losing team to another.

Although, the Clippers seem to be finally on the rise.

is it just me... or does it seem like new jersey is getting basically NOTHING out of this deal? why would they pull the trigger?

btw, i think this would be a GREAT trade for the clips. miles, odom, marbury... the rest of thier guys. that would be a team to watch. it might even get them a spot or 2 on nbc!

This trade could work for both teams. If I am the Clipps I would definately bite on this trade. With Marbury, they instantly upgrade the PG spot. NJ- 2nd and 7th picks in the draft.

I disagree. The report doesn't indicate that they would swap #1's, it just states that New Jersey would get the #2 overall pick to go with the #7 overall pick that they have. By trading Marbury for Dooling, New Jersey drops ~ $10 mill in salary & might avoid the luxury tax. They could then trade the #7 pick to us & pick up at least 2 additional #1's(13 & 18) & then, if they wanted to, could try & trade the #2 pick for Boston's #10 & 11 picks.

Sorry, I get carried away with this wheeling & dealing thing. The bottom line is that they would have a lot of options available to them. I think it's a good deal for both teams.

whoops - i misread it, i thought it said "kenyon dooling and a second ROUND pick"

but regardless, i still think its a great deal. ESP if the clips for some reason are intent on sticking with olowokandi, they'd be stupid NOT to do this deal.

here's an update from the marbury chat:

Tommy (LA): What do you think about this rumor floating around that the Nets have talked to the Los Angeles Clippers about a possible trade involving you for guard Keyon Dooling and the second overall pick in Wednesday's draft?

Stephon Marbury: Whatever happens happens!

Will: you seem like you may have added credibility to the trade talks by saying that while you prefer to stay, you understand they might trade you. Do you feel you have played any part in perpetuating the trade rumors?

Stephon Marbury: When I though I was going to be a franchise player, once I realized that I was tradable, when the question was asked, I said to he honest, I'm probably the only person that serves that value, so I understand it's a businesss. I didn't want to be traded, I just wanted this team to win. We can't go into the season the same way as last year. Things have to be done. Saying that is going to put me in a situation where I am trying to perpetuate me getting traded.

Yeah, Marbury is about as good a player as you could get for a #2. And he's proven he can play. The only reason I wouldn't make the trade is because the Clippers need a big man to compete. Marbury is worth it, but they need to ask themselves what's more important. The West is just so loaded. I don't see how Marbury helps. We have Francis and we still couldn't sneak into the playoffs. Marbury is nice and all, but I'd take my chances on a big body. Especially this year, the highschool gates opened up. This could be a draft to remember.

here's more

A-Rok from NC: You said you didnt want to be traded earlier? So does that mean you already have the deals worked out?

Stephon Marbury: I don't have an agent so I don't think that is plausible. I haven't talked to any teams and I'm not going to. If it came to that point, I would put myself in the situation where I am going to win as opposed to losing. Nobody wants to lose. If you do something is wrong.

Remember Aug. 18 and 19 to come out to Continental Airlines Arena for my charity event. It'll be a great time and you can learn something in the process. Every kid is a star.

I would like to say thanks to everybody for the questions, this has been fun. Check me out tonight on the 2Minute Drill at 7 ET on ESPN. Thanks everybody.

the clips need a big man, i agree 100%, but they said theyre still givin kandi a shot -- i mean, he IS a former #1. maybe there's some potential still there. regardless, that seems to be the route they are taking, and that being the case, a marbury trade is the best thing they can do.

btw, what the hell is up with crap like this getting through:
ben (not JErry): What is your favorite ice cream?

Stephon Marbury: Vaniall and strawberry mix.

and my question abut if he regrets asking a trade out of minnesota gets ignored http://bbs.clutchcity.net/ubb/confused.gif

Marbury makes no sense at all. Which means:

1. He's an airhead, he should have stayed in school.

2. He's nervous because he now knows he is on the Clippers.

Anyone see Almu's post in main forum, he said Byron Scott was on NY radio show and said there was NO way they would trade Marbury.... that is unless he wants a trade.

Surely if he wants to be traded he would request a trade to a playoff contender!

I doubt strongly that Marbury would ever use the word "plausible" much less know how to spell it...I smell a ringer!

------------------
Squatting on old bones and excrement and rusty iron, in a white blaze of heat, a panorama of naked idiots stretches to the horizon. Complete silence-their speech centers are destroyed-except for the crackle of sparks and the popping of singed flesh as they apply electrodes up and down the spine. White smoke of burning flesh hangs in the motionless air. A group of children have tied an idiot to a post with barbed wire and built a fire between his legs and stand watching with bestial curiosity as the flames lick his thighs. His flesh jerks in the fire with insect agony.

if this trade happens than with a few more years of seasoning with miles...and a power forward i feel that the clippers can actually be contenders. This is assuming that they keep all their guys

Ever since Marbury bolted Minnesota because he couldn't take being around someone who made so much more money than him (Garnett) -- never mind that he and KG were good friends and Marbury was set to get the MAX salary under the new CBA -- I've always hoped he would be stuck on the worst, losingest team around. Ironically, nowadays the Nets have more of a chance of being that team than the Clippers do!
