View Full Version : Rich Lord and the price of a haircut.

Did anyone else hear Rich Lord's and Matt Jackson's discussion of the price of a haircut the other day?

Lord seems to think most men pay well over $20 to get a haircut. When Jackson said he thought more probably paid right at $20 or under than paid over, Lord's response was, "come on!" And added that people paying under $20 are "cheapskates." When the callers started in almost all of them were under $20 and many were under $10. Lord kept putting off disclosing exactly how much he pays. He also added that he always takes a hat with him in case he doesn't like it. Apparently he is worried someone might see him driving home with an unacceptable expensive cut.

I know. I should be listening to 1560. I usually do, but I had my 3 year old in the car, and sometimes 1560 is not good for young ears. My jaunt was a short one, so I never heard how much Mr. ill-suited vanity pays for his 'do.' I hate to admit, but I'm curious how much he pays to look like this:

http://imgsrv.sportsradio610.com/image/kilt2/UserFiles/Image/Rich-Lord300.jpg

What a doofus, and what a waste of jack. I have never been a big fan of RL, and I already new he was clueless about sports, music, and film, but apparently he doesn't no much about, well, anything.

I am also curious what the people on this board are paying. For the record, I am an under $20 kind of guy.

I heard it. Thought it was funny.

Rich Lord is...eh. I really need to take the Patrick route and pay 3.99.

No idea about Rich Lord, but I'm an over-$20 guy.

I pay $27, but I used to get cuts only about once a year, so it wasn't too bad.

Now that I'm slowly entering the "professional" world (lol), it won't be as cost effective, but I've been going to the same place my whole life, so I doubt I'll switch now. I went to Visible Changes once for an emergency cut and it was awful to say the least. The lady cutting my hair kept asking me if I wanted to be "cleaned out."

I respectfully declined.

No, but I'm an over $20 guy, $25 exactly. It's a nice place, and I go every 2 months or so, so it's not a big deal IMO.

I heard the beginning of it and Rich was pretty sheepish and embarrassed to admit how much he paid at first, so I don't think I'd categorize his position as "most men would be willing to pay more than 20." He was making some point about you reach a certain point, I guess financial success, and you upgrade. The point he made being he doesn't live in Sharpstown anymore.

I pay about 20 bucks every 5 weeks or so. A few months ago I tried to go ritzy near the Galleria and paid about 45 for a cut a few times. It was a great haircut and the treatment was nice, but it didn't seem worth it.

Are you sure? He definitely became sheepish and embarrassed as the conversation developed, but I didn't catch that at first. Then again, I was traveling with two kids, so I may not have been attentive enough to decipher his tone. I hope I am not misrepresenting good old Rich in this thread. Did he finally say what he paid?

I've been going to sport clips for years. Usually its 15 bucks plus 3-4 tip, which brings me right under 20. I go about once a month.

Has anyone been to this place called Killer Kuts over on Highway 6 near W. Airport?

Supposedly, the place is geared towards guys and it serves from a tap!

Miguel

8 bucks, been getting my hair cut at the same place for over 12 years now. Made the mistake of getting it cut somewhere else recently twice. First time was ok...2nd time, not so much.

rocketfan83

Sports clips I think its like 15 bucks plus 3 buck tip so its under 20...

Though I might stop sports clips soon they're starting to turn into sales ladies and talk about upgrading and all of these other products that of course i have 0 interest in but it seems like they try to sell me 5-6 products every time i go now,..

I used to go to a place called $3.99 haircuts on HWY6 but the language barrier was to big so i stopped going they would just kind of cut randomly...Turned out good somtimes not so good others just a toss up...

I just moved to Hoboken...yeah lots of news out of here lately...anyway, its basically as corrupt as you'd expect. Got my haircut last week for $10 at some little Italian joint. There were dudes just hanging out there talking **** all day, not getting haircuts from what I could tell. In the process I got the whole lowdown on the mayoral corruption, the best places in the county to get quality prosciutto and mozzarella, a lot of opinions about the upcoming Yanks/Sox series, plus a shady asian dude walked in with a duffle bag and sold everyone a bunch of copies of Harry Potter 6 and The Hurt Locker on DVD for $5 a pop.

For $10 plus tip, you couldn't beat the experience.

5$ or 8/11$ depending on where I go. My haircut is ridiculously easy, and if I could cut it on my own, I would. Even with that relatively cheap price, its still a rip off because there really is nothing to my haircut.

I shop at the Kroger's nearby and I've seen and heard about it. But I just want a haircut. I don't care about gimmicks like beer on tap. It's also kind of odd that they have a Killer Kuts Klub. I'm not even black but that crap makes me uncomfortable. At the very least, it's very poor judgment on their part.

the mayoral corruption, the best places in the county to get quality prosciutto

In Houston, despite mayoral problems, the best place for prosciutto's is off 45/Little York. So I hear.

I get in anywhere from 0-22 depending on if its just a thinning out or full blown cut. Known my guy for years. If you are a guy its 22, he rarely does guys hair. 120+ for women. If you are paying less than 20 you have bad hair. If you don't care about your hair thats cool too.

$15 bucks and a $5 tip. Been going to the same guy for a while. But seriously Rich Lord paying some over the top amount for his haircut doesn't surprise me. The guy will spend all that $ on a haircut but can spend money on a gym membership or a dentist? I give Matt much respect for pulling his ignorant, arrogant, fat a$$ for a full show.

ClutchCityReturns
08-09-2009, 06:04 PM
$10 for me, which actually ends up being $10.50 before tip. It's a small place so they charge $.50 to pay with credit card, which sucks...but not really a big deal. With $3.00 tip it comes out to $13.50.

I posted about this when I moved from Galveston to the DFW area. I was paying $10 in Galveston at a barber. Up here, I finally found a good hair stylist at $14 close to my apt. Before that, I couldn't find even a barber shop for less than $16. All of these prices are before tip.

I get my cut at VIP Hair and Nails on Fry Road in Kroger Shopping Center for 6 bucks. The guy Tom used to work for Toni and Guy. He now owns his own shop and does a great job. I've been getting my hair cut there for two years. Same quality just cheaper. Got to save a buck during this economic times.

$18 plus tip at Sport Clips. I used to go to TGF, then tried Sport Clips once because I had a coupon and have been there since...the quality of the haircut is so much better no matter who the stylist.

I probably shouldn't admit this but I get the wash too...it feels pretty amazing, and I don't have to go home and shower to get all of the loose hair out afterward. :)

I cut my hair myself, about every 3 weeks. I have been using that cheap Walmart clipper for 3+ years now, so that's under $20 for 3+ years, and I think I do as good a job as most barber shops, except the back where I can only gauge it by touching,

I pay $15 at the moment, and I think that's too much. I'd like to pay $12, but this barber is more convenient to get to.

My father did a lot of work for a fancy french hair stylist when I was a teenager, so he comped me one of his $50 haircuts. I didn't see the difference, so I've never been tempted to pay more. A $25 haircut several years ago confirmed it.

One time, I did err in the opposite direction. I went to a black barber in my neighborhood. He ran a fine little shop, but it became apparent he never got any white customers. He did the whole thing with clippers. My wife forbade me to go back. Though, in a week, that haircut was fine too.

Chicago?

Are you thinking of the barber shop on 57th Street near the Metra? I went there when I went to college; I loved that shop. I can't find that kind of atmosphere in Houston.

I pay $4 at a Vietnamese haircut place on 1960.

I used to go to place that cost around $20 and they started jacking up their rates.

So, after the last time they cut my hair I took pictures of myself. I show those pictures to the Vietnamese people and they cut it the same way.

I pay just around $18 after tip. I'd prefer to pay less, but the barber I go to jacked up their rates ~$3 around a year ago.

I have a haircut that is relatively simple to cut. I can't tell the difference between a $10 and $40 cut, and I've never been unhappy with a haircut in my life. I always thought that was the status quo with most men's haircuts.

He pretty much said it was luck and a called it a fluke. Didn't base it on actual knowledge of the game or even anyhting basketball related. While I do agree that luck played some part of it, we all know the Rockets were playing great defense and team ball during the streak. It bothered me to think that someone on local radio was so ignorant on a subject he get's paid to talk about.
