View Full Version : Popup on GARM?

I went into the GARM not too long ago and I clicked on a thread and soon as the thread opened, a whole new webpage popped up saying my computer is in danger and that I need a virus scan etc... which indicates that something was just put on my computer.

So does anybody know about this or had this happen to them? I'm currently doing a virus scan atm.

Some browsers detect specific code constructs and react like that. Those constructs can be malicious, but on a site like this or Dell, you can probably guess that they aren't.

Now, if you were browsing some random Torrent site and saw that, you should think twice.

Happened to me, as well, in the Hangout.

It's just possibly a new way of introducing pop-ups to the FLASH code or the advertisements' code. Just ignore, cancel, or close without installing what they ask to install. You should be a'ight. Not a virus.

WRONG FORUM. THIS SHOULD BE IN THE FEEDBACK. :o

Something like that happened to me too, but I just closed it all down and it went away. Also, I know Clutch tries hard to limit the number of obnoxious advertisements, but I got a few earlier that popped out and one that had audio.

Weird. I am running Norton and have been getting the same recurring alert since around 2002. It's detecting the virus 'idiocy' in over 50% of the threads that I click on in GARM.

This doesn't sound like an AV issue from what I'm reading people post.

Yeah I thought it was a virus issue, but my virus scan picked up nothing. From reading what some of these other guys are saying I guess I don't have to worry about anything.

Sounds like the browsers "protection," to me. If so, see my previous post... nothing to really worry about, IMO, as long as you trust the site (and why wouldn't you trust clutchfans.net?!).

It is Google Adsense feature running on this website. Sometimes they sneak in those types of ads.

I was just about to post this happening to me. My virus software caught it but it still installed this malware called Home Anti-Virus 2010. This malware acts like it's virus software and asks you to register if you want to clean your PC after it does a bogus scan. Clutch should be made aware of this.

Happened to me too, I thought I got it from Google. I was doing a search and that thing came up.

I think whether you were affected or not depends on what virus software ur running and whether you have the latest updates from Microsoft. I don't have the greatest antivirus software, it scans for viruses but not for spyware and I don't do auto Windows updates. If you are looking to get rid of the malware you were infected with you can download Microsoft Windows Defender it will get rid of Home Antivirus.
