This should put an end to the Ariza to Cleveland talk.

Ariza doing a lot of damage control on LA radio saying that he never wanted to leave LA and it's just business. I guess that's understandable. The LA announcers were very leading with their line of questioning.
I'm guessing when Ariza shows up in Houston, he'll say Houston was exactly where he wanted to go.

How did they screw up? From what Ariza says, it sounds like the Lakers just didn't want him. He says from what he understands, they didn't even make an offer, they just got Artest.
How did he and his agent screw up? Just curious...

Oh yeah, thanks for the reminder.
Thanks for finding this! Good interview.
It was kind of hard for me to hear him clearly. At least I know he isn't pulling a Hedo.

Well reports are that he/agent turned down MLE offer at the beginning because they wanted alot more money. His agent kept referring to 8+ million for Ariza.
The fact that he kept saying, "From what I understand" speaks volumes to me. What kind of agent doesn't let his player know exactly what went on? Either that or he is just spinning it a little bit to not look bad.

Making $8 million in L.A. is pretty much the same as making about $5 million in Houston. He's making more than that with us.
Houston radio > these scrubs. ROFLMAO, have you ever venture out of Houston.?
need sorely need to expand your horizon. TesseracT Yeah, these guys sound really bitter about him not staying in LA. actually, they're overjoyed by the acquisition of Artest, whose worst year in the NBA was way better than Arizza's best year.
they concluded that, next to the Gasol acqusistion, this swap for the steal of the century so far.

Artest is not a steal of the century as they perceive him to be. When he demands the ball more often, and shoots his ugly fade aways they will come to sense. All hell let loose.

Fans forget so fast what Ariza did
He hit some huge shots for them in the playoffs..
This trade is no where lopsided as the Gasol trade, but what do you expect it's LA

Except for that silly, little detail that there was no trade in this case. Do we really think Morey would swap Artest straight up for Ariza if he was under club control?

Well, I didn't know about that, but if that's the case, I'm sure it's probably the latter. He might be doing a little "spinning" to make himself look a little better.

Well, its good to hear him saying he's not signing anywhere else, but definitely in Houston.
But, he really doesn't sound too confident ... like he just grabbed the best deal after getting dumped by LA.
One has to wonder if his agent has told him everything ... he sounds very confused.
I sure hope he is motivated in Houston. It really didn't sound like he wanted to play here ... like he's in shock about no longer playing in LA ... going "what happened?"

I do, too...that's one thing that bothered me about the interview. Talked about who would want to leave LA, etc., although this interview was probably never intended to be heard by Houstonians. Different message, different crowd.
But I mean, it's a 5 year deal so he'll have to like it here. And, he did mention that he's always been competitive, etc., and that's a good quality, so who knows.
He's our now. Well, almost...wait till it's official.

The guy was raised in LA, went to UCLA, won a championship with the Lakers, and probably known as the 2nd most popular player on the team. Who in their right mind and with good representation would pass up a MLE deal there to sign here with the same exact deal?
It's one thing if there was a feud, didn't get along with teammates, didn't fit the system, etc. but it was a perfect fit. Let's just hope he doesn't sulk like Bonzi apparently did at his mistake.

You guys have to remember that his on a LA show  , funny how things will change when he has his press conference in Houston :p
After hearing that interview, I understood why the agent ask him for a hands-off approach to negotiations. He sounded pretty bad.
And about the Laker guys sound like a-holes, well they're in LA. They probably feel that no one in his right mind will reject the Lakers, and probably think Houston's backwater redneck town.

LA also offered MLE, and the team with bird right can offer 10.5% annual raise, that put LA's offer slightly above Houston's

For some reason the FO didn't want him back because they thought it would be a long negotiation process. I think the coaches and the players wanted him back. It took them 1 day for Lakers to sign Artest  Ariza had no choice but to leave.
LA also offered MLE, and the team with bird right can offer 10.5% annual raise, that put LA's offer slightly above Houston's
They only offered him 3 years. So the LA offer was smaller.

ariza has a very mellow attitude so its hard to tell if he's excited/happy about anything. i dont think i saw him crack a single smile when i watched him play in LA, but he obviously liked it there.

More like 5th fiddle?
Kobe, Pau, Odom, Bynum - all those guys "fiddle" ahead of Ariza.
Could even be 6th fiddle behind Derek Fisher (who got more shot attempts than Ariza last season).

Then you and those radio guys are on crack. I hate when people use the idiotic "his wost season is better then that guy's best season" when comparing a 30 year old guy to a 24 year old guy. As far as being overjoyed, we'll see. Comparing this to the Gasol acquisition is insane. On a side note, I love the fact that you tried to take a shot at a poster and instead you come out looking like an idiot when the poster isn't even in Houston.

No offense but I can. Care to tell me how many 5 year players averaged under 9 ppg, then became an allstar caliber player. How a solid player who averaged even 18 or so ppg.
Show me. I'm inclined to believe the number is extremely small.
I've seen a lot of Ariza play. He is not going to push the Rockets to a playoff caliber team minus Yao, Mac. We will be lucky if we brush up against 15 to 20 wins by the allstar break.
