Blazers' G Blake to have shoulder surgery

Thursday, May 28, 2009

PORTLAND, Ore. - Portland Trail Blazers guard Steve Blake will have arthroscopic shoulder surgery on Friday.

Blake separated his shoulder during a game at Philadelphia on Jan. 14. He missed five games before he aggravated the injury against the Los Angeles Clippers on Jan. 26 and missed eight more.

Blake, Portland's starting point guard, averaged 11 points, five assists and 2.5 rebounds during the regular season.

He is scheduled to have the surgery on Friday in Los Angeles.

The Blazers have a team option on Blake for next season. This could prompt them into action (trade) rather than wait and see with Bayless... There were rumors of Pritchard having interest in Kirk Hinrich last season and Steve Nash this season.

Sources close to me have told me that Kirk Hinrich will be traded sometime before next season starts. His status seems to be independent on whether the Bulls are able to bring back Gordon.

The good news: Blake's value is lowered

The bad news: Blazers will be even more aggressive to try and upgrade the point.

Exactly, although I think Pritchard already believed a new starting PG was their biggest offseason need. I like Blake, but he doesn't cut it as a starting PG. Last season was probably his career season that will never be duplicated.

Bayless rotting on the bench, while they are starting Blake.

I swear Portland is retarded, so much talent but never satisfied.
