This is suppose to be one of the best Pixar movies to date.

That's a lot coming from Pixar seeing how many good movies they have been coming out with.

I actually did. I guess it was pretty cool. But then last month I went to King's Dominion and rode the 3-D Spongebob simulator ride and got a major headache. I guess I'll try the 3D Up tonight. It's either Up or Angels and Demons or Drag Me To Hell...I'm thinking Up.

a co worker and I were talking about Caroline, we both thought it was a good movie, however it was probably more for girls as far as kids are concerned, my six year old son wasn't into it at all. secondly, it was a little dark for kids.

looking forward to Up

Same as you, sir. I've tried to catch every single 3D movie and this will not be an exception. :) did you see Coraline in 3D?I saw this. AWESOME. My daughters had read the book and were just amazed at how close it was to it. THEN they wanted me to buy the book. It has stunningly amazing visual effects. I really enjoyed it, especially The Cat. :o No, not the one from the GARM.

Coraline is just a wrong movie for kids overall. THis is much creepier than Tim Burton's Nighmare Before Christmas.

it had a good message for kids, just went about it the wrong way. that's where the movie is screwed up, kid topic, adult presentation

Exactly. I mean not all kids are as bright or as grown up as Dakota Fanning and her little sister to be watching this kind of movie. Even I got freak out in a couple of scenes because I was expecting it as kids movie. It just caught me off guard.

Don't think the 2nd half is unwatchable it just changes to a much more traditional Pixar format, lots of bright colorful action, a massive swing from the first half.

Just saw it with my 3-year-old son. We liked it. The first part wasn't heart-wrenching, just told the story of the old man, set up the rest of the story and character. Great flick with good comedy and action, anyone can enjoy it, as with most Pixar movies.

Upside to crummy movie theaters is that they're -much- cheaper. It was $13.50 for adult and child for me at matinee time in a swanky theater. Once the movie starts, the experience is almost the same.

Excellent film. It definitely had some tender moments. The animation was pretty incredible. Pretty much like any kids movie, Pixar not excluded, you know where the story is taking you, but the ride is just so damn enjoyable.

The 3D is meh. First time watching something in 3D in a looong time, and it definitely is impressive compared to yesteryear. But I still only see it as niche technology. I wouldn't pay extra to see a film just because it's 3D all the time. Although this does make me curious to see Avatar.

It's hard to tell where I rank this with the other Pixars, but it'd probably be near the top.

So yeah, another great Pixar film. The link with Carl and the balloons/house is just amazing to see play out.

This movie is a little more 'out there' than Pixar films usually are (and I know it's saying a lot since we are talking about animated 'kids' movies), but it's not hard to let that pass. Really good time.

I also am pretty happy with the new 3D stuff. So much better, tech wise, than old 3D and it really makes the movies look awesome, even when they aren't doing the cheesy 'throw stuff at the viewer' crap.

This movie was awesome. But I saw it in 3D today (first time I saw a feature film in 3D) which I kind of regret. The colors aren't as vivid, and the 3D stuff was disorienting for me. That wasn't worth the extra money. I loved the movie, though. Very touching.

Really? I thought the 3D was so much better. Seemed very vivid in my theater.

Maybe I'm just expecting the blurry, red-and-blue mess of old 3D. :D

I never expected to see THAT many people crying from an animated movie.

The ironic thing is, the adults were the ones in tears... while their kids didn't recognize the sadness/emotions being displayed so they couldn't relate. Interesting.

Great, refreshing movie.

It was really interesting... when the movie ended, NO ONE in the theater got up to leave. It was almost like everyone had to collect themselves a bit before standing up. Not even the kids were ready to go.

I've been to a lot of movies, including plenty that were known 'tearjerkers,' and have never seen a collective theater so seemingly touched by a movie. Kudos, Pixar. Another job well done.

Anyone who has ever truly been in love would find it almost impossible to have a dry eye after the opening sequence of the film.

After that, and that success at getting to invest and care about those characters, it was all just about development and craziness. The big bird was a MacGuffin of course, albeit a delightfully insane one, and very funny. The dogs were hilarious, Dug was exactly what everyone who has ever wondered 'What if my dog could talk?' would be. The mean Alpha dog with the chipmunk voice was just so ridiculous and hilarious, and even better that all the other dogs could not keep from laughing at him.

Every little bit, you could tell that the filmmakers were just letting go, and having fun. And it worked pretty much every time. Unlike when Disney put their name on Meet the Robinsons, which was similar in its lunacy, but generally failed to be anything more than a mess.

Up will be a good one for BluRay, for sure.

I agree with everything you posted. This movie had real heart, personality and character and that's hard to find in these animated movies (which I've seen and own every one ever made because of my son). Up is an instant classic in my book with the likes of the Toy Stories, Shrek 1-2, Wall-e, Finding Nemo and Monsters Inc. But, unlike you, I actually like Meet the Robinsons.

The bluray 3D stuff is using the same tech as the 3-D movies did back in the 80's meaning all that red and green BS, from every review i've read it's not worth it.

After it ended, I just sad there with misty eyes and said to myself, "Wow...that was REALLY sad." But the more I thought about it the more I really loved and understood the heart of the movie. Especially when he was looking through his wife's old book when he reached the waterfall (I lost it for a minute) and when he was able to let the house go. Great message on enjoying life and the people around you and not worrying so much about material possessions.

So I had all these philosophical thoughts running through my head when leaving the theater, and of course all the kids around me were laughing about the squirrels.

Seriously...how do they make a movie that adults can find so touching and profound and that children can find funny or lighthearted? Geniuses I tell ya.

Great, great movie. Really makes you think about life and what you cherish.

Seriously, man... if you go see this and do not walk away pleased then I'm pretty sure you are just trying to be anti-mainstream.

The reviewers are always on Pixar's jock because no movie studio has produced quality pictures as frequently and steadily. When your unanimously worst movie is Cars, then you know you are doing something right. 99% of studios would kill to ever produce something as good as Cars... let alone have that be their worst movie.

It just baffles my mind that some people are not Pixar fans. To each their own, I guess.

I thought it was the best Pixar flick since Nemo.

That's saying a lot.

The story was brilliant. Touching at moments (yes, I teared up at least twice), and then side-splitting hilarious at others.

So much good sentiment in the message. Moving on, making new memories, knowing what life is really about.

Great stuff...

Taking the kids now this weekend (wife and I had a date weekend last week).

For the record, we saw Star Trek the next day, it was on the same level of greatness, but in a different kind of awesome way. I have not seen back-to-back really good movies in the theater in a long time. :)

got back from watching the 3-d version of the film.

As usual I went in with higher than normal expectations since it was a Pixar film

and as usual not only did Pixar meet all my expectations but it exceeded them.

I thought for a "kids/family" movie there were a lot of 'dark' parts to the movie that the kids will certainly not get, but the adults and teenagers will get which add tremendous character to the film. It was touching, eye opening, flat out funny and had a bit of a "moral" at the end that wasnt preachy (which i felt wall-e became sort of at the end about the earth dying)

my old complaint about the film was casting Ed Asner for Carl Frederickson

Ed Asner has done several voice overs for characters I have seen and at least at the beginning of the film everytime carl talked I kept picturing Ed Wuncler (boondocks) and Jonah Jameson (animated spiderman series) two guys Asner supplied the voice for. It took some time to have me settle into that voice belonging to that character.

Its not Asner's fault he has a great voice over voice and it happens to me all the time with out voice-overs as well.

And as it is with Pixar films when john ratzenberger does his character it reminds me of the other characters he has done in the pixar films.
--for those who do not know john ratzenberger is the one voice actor that ties all the pixar films together, he has had a role in every pixar film.

saw imdb has it at #13 all time....i certainly do not agree with that which is probably more of a case of "its new and fresh in my mind i am judging it a 9 or 10" from a lot of people. a great movie just not the #13 best movie ever made imo.
