HOUSTON - Houston Texans defensive end Anthony Weaver will be released Tuesday. Weaver told FOX 26 Sports Monday his agent informed him that he had been told by the club the move would be made Tuesday.

"I'm disappointed I can't finish what I thought we started under Coach (Gary) Kubiak," Weaver said.

Weaver is not caught off guard by the news.

"I'm not surprised," Weaver said. "I know my production has been down and I've had some injuries that didn't help."

In fact Weaver underwent arthroscopic surgery on his left knee earlier this year.

"I've never been cut before but this is the business side of things," Weaver said. "I gave my best. That's all I can control."

Weaver said he still has a lot left in the tank and plans to continue his career somewhere in the NFL.

In three seasons with the Texans Weaver played in 47 games, starting 45. During his Houston stint Weaver had two interceptions and one quarterback sack.

In March, 2006 Weaver signed a five-year contract with the Texans worth $26.5 million. The deal included a $12.5 million signing bonus.

Weaver was originally selected in the second round of the 2002 NFL Draft by the Baltimore Ravens. He played there for four years before signed as a free agent with the Texans.

Thank goodness we got rid of this bust.

Started 45 games and had 1 sack.

I dont think any defensive end in football can go that long and register only 1 sack if they tried. You figure you'd get at least 3-4 gimme sacks over that time span.

Unbelievable.

Bye.

I never really thought he had much potential when we signed him, so I'm not surprised. Let's hope we go DE in the first round...

Nice guy, but the Texans made a big mistake signing him.

Travis Johnson might have something to say about that.

True, but at least TJ is a DT and has had 2 sacks in 54 games (thats almost twice the production of Weaver)...and made about 1/3 of what Weaver made last season.

Weaver could not have possibly crashed and burned harder than he did. Worst freaking contract. Total bust.

Weaver was a joke after leaving the comfy confines of the Baltimore DL...

He road coattails... didn't make waves...

I hope to god we get Orakpo

Nice guy, but the Texans made a big mistake signing him.

He was a good player with Baltimore. Looks like he was probably a system guy as many of their players that left have been. The line at the time he was signed was by far the worst in the NFL. It was an attempt at bringing in a player who had some success and was still young. I can't fault the Texans for signing him, but I'm not disappointed that he's gone.
