You know, as much as I want the Rox to win it all and do something amazing, reality does check in. Lets put it this way, We aren't scaring anyone. When teams say they don't want to play the Celtics or the Lakers or the Spurs, its because of fear. Our team may be good, and yeah we can go on another 20 game win streak. However, when we get to that other Animal which is the NBA Playoffs, we are going to be the ones that teams WANT to face. If you just see the example which is last year, Yao goes down, we are counted out, we prove the naysayers wrong by winning 22 games in a row. Yet, we reach the playoffs and teams look at us as vulnerable with weaknesses. Every team steps their **** up in the playoffs. Its put up or shut up time, and believe me when they face us, they KNOW they have the upper hand. Why is that? That one despicable word in the dictionary, Injuries. We have been favored once to win, because we were fully healthy and we just came a TINY bit short. Trust me, when you say that we don't need McGrady, truth is we need him healthy and with us in the playoffs. He is the guy who can draw double teams etc... Von Wafer is good no doubt, but you see that teams haven't seen much of him and they are unsure of his style of play. When April looms and we are in the playoffs, he will be scouted and the other teams will know what to do. I Hope and Believe that we win it all, who doesn't? But reality says otherwise.... When April arrives, we will have butterflies and itchy feet. You can sense the Fear. I do...

That's fine. Honestly, I'm just enjoying the new style and watching how the young guys like Brooks, Lowry, and Wafer are going to develop on the team. I'm not even thinking about the playoffs and getting out of the first round.

Even without Yao Ming, the Jazz series last year is very different with Rafer playing all 6 games.
Not saying you are wrong, but dont bring up last year because we had our starting wings hobbled a bit, and our starting PG missed 2 starts and left game 6 right before half when the game was very close. Given all that, we took everything Utah could dish out, and aside from one lopsided half, played very well and still had chances to pull it out.

Rockets lost many easy games this year...
and still manager to be the fifth seed in the west.
Only 3 or 4 games from the Spurs(2nd seed)
So I should rephrase your words to ::: "We are fearless."
Neither Boston nor LA. What you fear for?
We should all be happy that we have a new Rockets that every player tried their best. And it's all you need.

our team is better than the ones of past. The reason i say that is bc eventhough we did have Mclazy healthy, he is just not a winner. There are players that when the time comes they fight and win, and others that buckle under some kind of psychological pressure. Mcgrady was not meant to win bc of his attitude towards the game. ON our current team we have players that are more capable of winning. Artest, Scola, Brooks, Landry are winners.

You know I can't agree with you more. I'm a Rockets fan first and individual player's fan on our team second. There is definitely excitement in Houston with both T-mac & Rafer out but will it transpire into playoff success? I don't know but I do know that eventhough T-mac is 0-7 in the playoffs, he does step up everytime and it isn't his fault his teammates don't come with him to the party. As evident, year after year after year. Yao is obviously not Dream but he doesn't step it up since his numbers stay constant as his regular season averages. I'm not trying to rip him, but the great ones leave their mark on the game by picking it up especially in the Playoffs. Last season without Rafer, the team was clueless on what to do against the Jazz albeit they won 2 games in that series. As much as I want the Rockets to do well, it's just going to be tough because too many bandwagoners who have ripped Rafer (poor shooting) & T-Mac (knee) will come after AB when we lose/he does something wrong (ie...that thread about how he got blocked vs. Dallas). We are much more talented with a HEALTHY unit than year's past and I truly believe we can hang with the best of them (when healthy) and be able to win out. Other teams have that premier scorer/go to guy: Kobe, Manu, Carmelo, Roy, Nowitzki, D. Williams, Lebron, Pierce, J. Johnson, Wade, Hamilton, etc.
I want this team to do well, never fail, but for us to have success, you can't fear teams like the Lakers, Spurs, Celtics, or Cavs (ie...that poll thread indicating we should play Portland 1st in round). If you want to win, you can't be scared/fear anyone.
Go Rockets!!!

Let them "want" to face us - overconfidence is always to be used against you.
Secondly, the Playoffs are a different enough animal that you shouldn't be busting out your crystal ball in February. Come back to me in April and we'll talk.

Playoffs or regular game its still a basketball game. For basketball players like wafer ( like wafer - players who dont get payed big $$$ and everygame can be the last one) play hard everygame. What can they do to wafer that they are not doing now?
You act like other team just let him score. Notice how he gets his points.
His 3pointers come from double team of yao.
His 2 pointers are almost ALWAYS always always contested.
And his dunks and layups comes from very physical plays.
The next step to defend him is either double team (which is unlikely) or put the best defender on him( lol?)

Last year was a very, very odd situation. I mean, we were without Yao, Rafer didn't play two of the 6 games and he missed a lot of the 6th game, and our two wing players (McGrady and Battier) needed surgery. Regardless of all of that being stacked up against them, the Rockets still played very hard and had a few things gone their way, they might have even been able to win the series (remember the Kirilenko flop?).
Right now, I feel good about this team. I do agree with you TS that nobody fears this team... yet. There are still about 27 games left to play, so a lot could change.

Just confess to this board that you are a Tmac lover, it's ok really, but you need to get a grip of reality that you're man is gone and no amount of cleverly disguised threads like this one will have any effect on us.
You see,we have move on from this Tmac drama, you can go on with this BS that nobody is scared of us, but you will never ever convinced me because frankly, I'm starting to enjoy our team playing basketball again, I know they will only get better as they play each game from now on, win or lose I know they will always put forth a 100% effort
What more could you ask for?

How are they winners? What exactly have they won?
They are winners in their basketball career, not just NBA here with the Rockets, thats what he means in my opinion
Brooks-led okay Oregon team in the Tourney when nobody thought anything of that teams potential
Scola-MVP calaber player for his international team
Battier-Great guy, played for Coach K. That guy breeds winners
Lowry-Villinova anyone?
Barry-played on winning playoff teams, knows SA style of Playoff WINNING basketball
Mutombo-NBA FINALS? oh ya
Artest-wasnt he once deemed Spurs Killer? Led a limited SAC team up against a powerhouse.
This team is built with character guys who have won at every level of basketball, many of them helping teams to playoff wins in the NBA
What can you say about Tmac? His HS team got knocked out in the playoffs every year, never won a national championship in HS. He has won nothing on any level, just been given respect bc of his sheer ability.
Ill take a team of "Winners" over a team of "I was given all the 'respect' without earning it" guys anyday.
we are not scaring anyone? maybe. but whom are we scared of? the lakers? we played them tight some time ago when the team was in disarray. the celts? we're 1-1 with them for the season.
no, we are not scared of anybody, either.
if there's fear, it's some amongst the fans. i don't see this team being scared of any team.

The pressure is off with McGrady gone, the guys still here work their butts off every night and seem to genuinely like each other. I don't see a problem. At least I don't see any problems that were not already here before Tmac quit and Rafer got traded. PG is still a weakness for this squad but the team is still talented enough to make some noise in the playoffs.

These Rockets are not last year's. Let's list a few points concerning last year's team heading into the playoffs:
1. After our winning streak we actually became fairly mediocre heading into the playoffs. We were 24-20, went to 46-20 from the streak, then proceeded to finish the year 9-7 to get to 55-27. Not exactly blowing anyone away.
2. Rafer was injured for three of our four losses and played in the other three games of which we won two and lost one. Had he been healthy it might bave been another story.
3. Landry was not the same player that he was after he hurt himself during the streak. Injuries pretty much crippled us down the stretch, and it wasn't just to Yao Ming. T-Mac remember was on his last legs as we would later find out.
Now about this year's team.
1. We have Yao Ming. Never underscore the importance of the best center in the game in the postseason, with a supporting cast better than he's ever had before.
2. Our poor performance with Tracy McGrady has underscored how good we actually have been when we've played as a team. Nowhere is this more exemplified than our record against the bottomfeeders. Most teams use the worst teams as an opportunity to pad their pt differential stats, but we instead have opted to lose to them in the most embarrassing fashion. In contrast, our record against teams with winning records is 15-10. That might not seem great, but think about it this way: we have wins at Boston, at Orlando, at Dallas (and home against Dallas), at Phoenix, against San Antonio, against New Orleans, against Denver, and against Utah twice. The only good teams we haven't beaten are the Lakers, Cleveland--who we've only played once, in Cleveland where the refs decide to job Yao badly to the point that Yao said "see you in Houston" afterwards--and finally Portland (and ya'll remember that game, I don't even have to say anything). We can hang with anyone at this point; we just need to get our chemistry and our consistency in order and that'll be that.
3. We are finally rid of the walking curse, Mr. Bad Karma himself, and the fact that he has left us of his own volition only strengthens the power with which his bad karma will backfire upon himself. There are no more excuses on this team, no more contemplations about lost potential, only hard workers leading their team by example, pushing each other to become better every day in practice, and spewing hot fi-ah like Dylon. This team has no limits because it places none on itself.
Let's see how this incarnation does with a couple weeks' worth of gellin time against a good team before we make any judgments as to how far we will go in this year's playoffs. I'd say...the Wed. March 11 home game vs. the Lakers will be a good game to evaluate us by.

The only people that need a reality check are those who think other people in this league are "scared" of the Rockets in the playoffs. Yes, we are like the team in the EC who is sitting at seed 8 ... a walk in the park. We have consistently proven that we can barely make the playoffs, if that, much less make it past the first round. We ARE that team everyone wants to play. This leads directly into the second reality check:
Those who think we need TMac. There is nothing I can say here. If you don't get it already, you probably never will. With Tmac, even I will bet against the Rockets. W/out him, at least we have a fighting chance.

Doesn't matter how scary we are. I'm sure the Lakers didn't think the Pistons were scary the year Detroit clobbered them in the Finals. Anyting can happen if a team gels and gets on a roll. We have all the pieces to make up for the individual talent of Tmac. Tmac has never proven he can get out of the first round of the playoffs, so he won't be missed as much as some people would like. in 08 we had just as much talent if not more to compete against them but unfortunately a lot of that talent didnt see the floor because of injuries.
I think if for some reason the jazz and rockets face in the playoffs again that I would put the money on the Rockets....they are actually healthy for once (yeah i dont count McGrady as part of the team right now) and the jazz have some injuries issues and honestly outside of getting Korver the jazz have not adding any other new talent to their team unlike the rockets.
the only two teams that I do not want the rockets to face in the first or second round are the Lakers and Spurs

Can people please stop talking about how "healthy" we are right now?
We were "healthy" at this time last year too... then look what happened. Just because the Rockets are healthy now doesn't mean they will be come playoff time.

We might not be the scariest team now, but in order to be "scary," you have to establish yourselves with consistency. Obviously, that hasn't happened yet this season. Also, it helps to have a higher seed.
If we beat some elite teams, the Hornets/Jazz/Blazers/Nuggets/Mavs/Suns might start hoping not to play us. It's definitely not out of the question. If mid-April comes along and all of our guys are healthy, I can see us "scaring" some teams.

i hope the other teams out there underestimate us... we'll just take em by surprise
Just a T-mac apologist. T-mac hasn't lead any team out of the first round of the playoffs, do we really need him come playoff time? Will he really make a difference?
It's how the team plays, not who plays on the team.

You look at the 95 title team and tell me if any of the 3 Western teams they beat were scared of the Rockets prior to the series played. You look at the 86 team prior to them playing the Lakers...I doubt it very much if Magic and were "scared" of the Rockets.
You don't win a play-off series by being the "scariest" team on the court. You just beat them period Rockets style.

Critics in the media are saying the Rockets have no chance witthout McGrady because he's a player with the ability to win a series. Yet, McGrady has never won a series to advance out of the first round. Where is the logic?
Idiots in the media haven't seen how much of a slacker TSlack has been this year. This year, he doesn't play defense, he demands the ball to make low percentage plays on offense. He doesn't hustle. He simply kills the Rockets. They still think he's a superstar, but he isn't.

Just relax and enjoy the games, Man. Remember the war on terror! We don't need to be afraid, and we don't need to scare everyone either. We're in the middle of the NBA season. How awesome is that?!

Yao Ming is eager and hungry this year.
Last year he sat at courtside in a suit.
Enough said.

The current Rockets personnel doesn't have to be "scary" to the Lakers or Spurs. They only have to be "scary" to the other 5 WC playoffs teams to get into the 2nd Round. Something Grady was never able to deliver.

when we had tracy in the lineup. it send shivers to the opponents spines cause he'll try to kill you with his pull up 3 all night. his flat footed defense was menacing. :D :D

I understand where the OP is coming from, but I'd prefer the rest of the league to overlook us.
It's always good to be the underdog.

I don't understand why you think we need mcgrady when we have artest who can also put the ball in the hoop and get steals for us. We have a better team than the past years. I think this is our year to go deep or atleast out of the first round and once we do that i think mcgrady will surly be moved in the off season. Just think about it he is making 21 Mil a year with that we can sign Ron and have plenty left over for other players/extensions. I love t-mac or now Tracy but i like ron's offense and defense. I would rather have that than just someone who can score. I like how tough we are looking even though we are undersized in some positions. If we don't get out of the first round i will not be disappointed because i like the way we look and i see and bright future ahead.

Von Wafer is good no doubt, but you see that teams haven't seen much of him and they are unsure of his style of play. When April looms and we are in the playoffs, he will be scouted
lol scouted? People were saying this few months ago and yet wafer still does same thing... hmmm
once wafer gets into a rhythm, watch out cause he'll bust a 3 in your face and drive past you to the hole for a slam or free throws baby. Von Wafer > than me-mac
