I would be very surprised if Darryl Kile somehow managed to beat out the Big Unit for NL Cy Young... unless he is injured.

My baseball predictions are as follows:
The Astros will be better than last year.
The Yank-mees, *YAWN*, will win the World Series again.

I don't have any idea who's going to win the Series... and that's what's so exciting about it.
The Yankees ARE NOT that good this year. Have you seen their players? Pfft... wild card contenders.
I think Houston has a chance to win everything. Everying would have to work out well... but I figure they should have some luck coming after all things went WRONG last year. Remember? They took some chances... and NONE of them panned out. It was almost miraculous.
I just want to see the Red Sox and Astros in the series http://bbs.clutchcity.net/ubb/smile.gif.

Aren't the Yankees basically the same team as last year except with a better rotation? http://bbs.clutchcity.net/ubb/confused.gif

Yeah, except all of there position players are a year older and most probably won't produce as much as last year.
I still think the addition of Mussina makes up for that and the Yankees will eventually win the World Series.
I also think Ankiel will eventually solve his control problems and the Cardinals will make it a close race in the Central, but fail in the end to the Astros.

Anyone not picking the Yank-mees is fooling themselves. George Steinbrenner has proven himself to be the only owner in Major League Baseball that will spend ridiculous amounts of cash (owner of the Rangers this past offseason notwithstanding), and pull the necessary deals (especially around the trading deadline) in order to ensure a World Series championship. Drayton has the cash, but he is not as willing to part with it as Steinbrenner is. Drayton has nowhere near the chutzpah (nerve) that Steinbrenner has, either.

Rocketman Tex: The Yankees aren't spending as much as the Sox. Last year, everything fell in line PERFECTLy for the Yanks to win... they probably weren't even the best team. Just got lucky.
They're alreayd an old team. The odds are they'll have quite a few injuries. I don't care HOW much money you throw at a problem, you're still not going to win every year.
The Yankees, after all, sucked with a huge payroll for years. They'll be good, and they're one of the favorites... but that's it.

The Yankees are another year older, they will have one of the worst offensive left fielders in the league (Knoblach - good numbers of a 2nd baseman, but not for an outfielder) and remember, they only won 87 games last year.
They do well in the playoffs and a lot of that credit goes to Mariano Rivera. Mark my words, they will NOT make it to the World Series this season.

Another year older does not hurt all of their players, (Williams, Knoblauch, Jeter, Posada, Rivera, etc.), and they will still have Rivera. A team that has been so dominating in the post season over the past few years should not have too many worries about reaching the World Series again. I would still pick this team over anyone else in the league. They are just too solid at nearly every position and have one of the best pitching staffs in the league, although losing Nelson will hurt.

Seriously though, I don't know if the 'Stros'll make it that far (I hope they do of course). But I'm still very optimistic about the upcoming season.

Yankees - Astros in the Series going seven games!

If this happens, I'll probably have to leave New York for a couple of weeks, because no matter how long I live here and follow the Yankees, I could never root against the Stos'.
But until that time!

The Rangers in 4th?!? They are going to have possibly the best lineups in MLB this year (Greer, Velarde, A-Rod, Raffy, Pudge, Caminiti, Gallaraga, Mateo, Kapler). If they could just make a trade for a good starting pitcher and/or acquire a closer like Ugeth Urbina, they could do really well.

Haven...if Nomar has his surgery now, and misses two months as predicted, will the Sox have enough in the tank to make up the ground they will lose with Nomar out of the lineup?

The Red Sox? Did they figure out some way to get Pedro to start 160 games...? http://bbs.clutchcity.net/ubb/rolleyes.gif
Nomar
03-27-2001, 11:47 AM
Haha BK, no, they just signed the best offensive player in major league baseball.
The Sox have the best heart of the order in baseball with Everett, Nomar, Manny, Bichette.
And not to mention, the best pitching staff in the majors. Maybe they lack the big names of the Yankees staff, but the stats speak for themselves.
Sox over Braves in the Series.
AL MVP - Nomar
AL Cy - Pedro

The next time I have meat and mashed potatoes, I think I'll put a very large blob of potatoes on my plate with just a little piece of meat. And if someone asks me why i didn't get more meat, ill just say, "Oh, you mean this?" and pull out a big piece of meat from inside the blob of potatoes, where ive hidden it. Good magic trick, huh?

Tim Hudson and Barry Zito are the two best young pitchers in baseball and they happen to be the 1-2 starters for the Oakland Athletics. Throw in Mulder, who also will be awesome, and you have the best young pitching staff in all of baseball. The A's will be a team to be reckoned with for a long time if they are able to agree to an extension with Giambi.

Yes!! Baseball is my favorite sport! I'm so pumped for opening day because I'm taking my one year old son to his first Astro game!
I'm a ridiculous Astro fan but I don't think they're going to win the division. Yes, they will improve a ton...but the Cards starters are tough. Here are my picks:
NLCentral - Cards
NLWest - Giants (how can you pick against them??? you try every year and they just win..dusty baker is EASILY the best manager in baseball)
NLEast - Braves (if the Mets had picked up David Wells, I would have picked them)
NLWild Card- Astros -- around 88-90 wins..they're really going to benefit from unbalanced schedule.
ALCentral - White Sox...forget it...a good young team who added Wells. Indians got worse, not better..and they weren't good enough last year.
ALWest - Oakland...very strong pitching
ALEast - Yankees...duh
AL Wild Card -- a couple of weeks ago I would have said Boston...now I'll say the Mariners, on the strength of young pitching.
Ultimately I think the Yankees will likely play the Cards in the Series. The Cards will benefit from a weaker, older Braves team this year. I'd love to see the Giants win if the Astros can't.

The Red Sox would have the best pitching staff in the majorss easily . . . if this were 1988.
But its not. No one on that staff other than Pedro is any good and the Red Sox great line-up is an injured player, a loon, a guy who once played in Coors field and a guy who plays bad defense and pulls his hamstring a lot.
Even when healthy, I'll take the Rangers line-up over the Bosox, and the Astros over the Rangers.
