Gang,
If you have kids and you usually go through your old toys after Christmas, please try to do it before Christmas this year. Those old toys could be new toys for other impoverished children this year and it could mean the difference between them having a Christmas present and not having one.
Our family got involved with an elementary school in Kingsland Texas called PackSaddle elementary, it is a very poor school and some of the kids only have one outfit to wear every single day. We donated a ton of clothes from our two kids and have rallied others in our community to donate there as well.
It is strikingly sad to see such poverty in the United States. Some of these kids have been taken from their parents because they are addicted to Crystal Meth, I am tearing up just thinking about them.
Even if you are only going to donate to GoodWill or the Salvation army, try to do it early, this year there are more people that are going to need it than ever. We can not get out of this mess without people helping people, please do your donations early this year, it means a lot to people that you might not otherwise see, that could be just a mile or so away.
Children in the richest country in the world should not be suffering so much, please help if you can.
Christmas is about giving, trust me it is a wonderful feeling to see kids getting something unexpected.....

In the process of trying to make a move near DaDa's neck of the woods, I have a pseudo plethora of kids stuff that could go somewhere if I got off my back end and rounded it up, and it needs to get done. Knowing a good place to send it and knowing it was going to those that need it most would be massive incentive.

I usually make a yearly stop at Goodwill. I no longer have kids, so the toys are spent.
Does anybody get together and do volunteer work at this site?

Seconded.
Our house has too many toys to begin with. This may be a good chance to get the kids involved in giving also. Where are the best places to go in Houston?

Thanks fellas, it really is a good idea to donate BEFORE Christmas, it can make all the difference in the world to a less fortunate child.

Can someone donate used toys to me? I have 2 young boys and am just going to maybe buy them a toy each for Christmas. I have been going thru a divorce for a year and a half and am up to my eyeballs in debt. Almost to the point where I have to sell my house.

I live in the kingwood area, but work in the med center.
Anything a boy would like. They are 3.5 years and almost 2 years old.

It's cool, I really appreciate the effort. Don't worry about it, I was just shooting in the dark. But it is only toys right. Luckily they are still young and don't really want tons of stuff. I am sure if could pull out a toy or 2 each they will be happy. And hopefully at this time next year I will be in a better place financially for them.

Email me through the board. My wife and I don't have any kids and would be more than happy to buy a few things for your kids. Seriously. She works in the med center at Methodist and can even meet you to drop them off.
Shoot me an email...

My wife pointed out that we have some Little People's stuff that your kids might like...a zoo with animals...and a Noah's ark with little people and animals, as well.
Any interest in that?? Think your boys would like that??
(dada, you have mail)

I'll talk to my wife. My son is two now as well - I'm sure we can find some things for you.

good thread.
Another thing to do if you don't stuff to donate is what I've been doing the past few years.
Go up to Wal-mart and buy a bunch of toys and they bave bins that you can donate them in (Blue Santa).
Its pretty damn easy, I never go to walmart but do once a year to do this. I will be pissed if walmart just restocks what I donated
