View Full Version : Titans prefer to face Texans QB, not his backup

Albert Haynesworth wants to rough up Texans quarterback Matt Schaub this Sunday — but not too much. The defensive tackle said the Titans are much more worried about Schaub’s backup, Sage Rosenfels.
The Titans knocked Schaub out of both meetings last season. Rosenfels came in and threw for 475 yards and five touchdowns, including a 290-yard, four-TD game. The Titans won both meetings.
We don’t want to see Rosenfels, man,” Haynesworth said. “They definitely have the best backup in the NFL, at least against us. He kills us every time.’’
Haynesworth said Schaub should be nervous, though.
In Tennessee’s 38-36 win at Houston on Oct. 21, Schaub left early with a sprained ankle but came back. Haynesworth then knocked him out of the game for good with what officials ruled a helmet-to-helmet hit. Schaub hurt his hip and back.
In the Dec. 2 rematch at LP Field, Schaub suffered a dislocated left shoulder. After the game, Haynesworth said: “I think he’s just scared of us. Maybe next year he won’t play against us. He’ll just sit that game out.’’
Schaub, who will start this Sunday’s game at LP Field, said the injuries he suffered against the Titans last season are just a part of the game. As for what it felt like when the 320-pound Haynesworth landed on him, Schaub said: “I think we’re still trying to find a scale who can measure that.’’
Award for Bulluck: Titans linebacker Keith Bulluck was named AFC Special Teams Player of the Week for his performance in Sunday’s win over the Bengals. He blocked a punt and recovered it for a touchdown, the sixth of his career.
Bud OK: Titans owner Bud Adams, who resides in Houston, was affected by Hurricane Ike but is doing OK, according to Coach Jeff Fisher. “He had some minor damage to the house, but everything as far as the Adams family and his immediate relatives are OK,’’ Fisher said.

Wow, one 40-yard run! Prepare his bust in Canton... that's only been something done by like 50,000,000 other players.

you're the only person mentioning canton. the only point was that its ridiculous to assert the texans would rather face a qb who's 3-0 against them including a game winning play. i think if you take off your vince hate (yeah I know you really like him) you would realize how stupid the " iwould rather face collins" posts are in the texans vacum

How bout the O-line does their job for the first time......since the TEXANS began plying football?
yay! Sage put up huge numbers during trash time! Sorry, but it doesn't matter if you put Sage, Schaub, Tom Brady, John Elway or even the loveable David Carr behind this line......if they can't run the ball and can't pass protect, the QB is going to get hammered. Kansas City is having the same problem right now......it has little to do with who the QB is.
While I'm pretty confident it won't happen for several reasons, I'd love to see Schaub and AJ freaking destory the Tits. First of all, I hate them anyway. Now Haynesworth running his trap. The most annoying thing about it is that they can back it up, and the Texans won't be able to do a thing about it.

Sage has performed well just about everytime he's gotten the chance. He could start right now for quite a few teams in the league -- I think Minnesota would be 2-0 had they upped their offer to nab him in the off-season. I'm not calling for Schaub's head -- I just think if our offense sputters again, we need to give Sage a look.

Ok here we are 7th season in and we are having the same problems, but what rosenfels does better than schaub is get the ball off in a hurry. some QB's are good at it some isn't maybe rosenfels is what the texans need to suceed with the line they have in place right now

you mean like that 4 turnover game Sage had against Tenn, where he simultaneously did everything he could to win, and lose the game?
look, Sage is a great backup, and I am not defending Schaub, he's been subpar so far for sure, and frail.
but christ, why are people still ripping on the QB when the Texans have NEVER and I mean NEVER had an offensive line or running game.........
but everyone still wants to put the entire burden of the teams success on the QB.
take for example Trent Green, from 2001-2005 he had a ton of passing yards and Priest Holmes and Larry Johnson were smashing NFL rushing records and the Chiefs were one of the top offenses in the leauge.
Then willie roaf and will shields hang it up, brian waters and casey wigemann consequently slow down and all of sudden Trent Green/Larry Johnson are garbage, and the Chiefs suck. weird.

Are you saying you'd still defend David Carr, or am I missing your point here?
no, David Carr is a seperate case, and you can't unscramble an egg, but who knows if Carr was an egg to begin with?
what I am saying......Schaub is getting his brains scrambled just as Carr did, and for the same reasons, the only thing we know up untill this point, is that Carr was more durable than Schuab currently is and it's my opinion that Schaub is headed down the same road Carr went down.........and I am 99.99% sure that if Sage was to start and play all the downs, he'd end up in the same boat as Carr and Schaub.
Does Schuab make mistakes? of course. Does he need to improve and make better football decisions? absolutley. But don't kid yourself for one second and think Rosenfels is gonna step in to the same mess and lead this team to the playoffs. The QB position is just the begining of the Texans issues.

I think the Texans got desperate and overextended themselves by taking a very raw Duane Brown in the 1st round last year. He's still learning the game, and probably isn't the best fit to start right away.

I agree with your statement, very very raw but has potential, will we see that potential this year..... IMO i don't think so but future is bright. Still thought we should have taken a RB or Corner

I wouldn't say they've NEVER had a running game. Domanick Davis/Williams was on his way to stardom had he not gotten hurt.
That said, I agree. The line play has been spotty at best. Haynesworth is a jackass...but he's also dominant. Pitts and Brown have their hands full this Sunday. If they can contain him, they have a chance.

kerry collins did start before vince, my my, you guys are ridiculous. kerry collins was a nice qb in his early days, i rooted for him because i liked the penn state squad who got robbed of a national championship in 95 before the bcs was formed.
I took up for him when he got drunk and made racist comments. but his career has been mediocre at best since his really good start in Carolina. he will have some big days, he will throw some picks. but he did start for the same freakin exact team that vince took over and won rookie of the year with and the reason he was benched was more about him and less about vince.

The onyl thing I will say to that is the O-line sure did look alot better last year when Sage was in. Schaub caused alot of those problems against the Steelers himself. The Texans went to a 3-step drop, similiar to what the Steelers started using when Ben was getting pressured. But instead of getting rid of the ball quickly, he held on and got hammered. Just like another number 8 around here.
The fact is that every QB gets sacked. Every QB takes a hard hit. Schaub seems to -
a. get hurt on every other hit
b. actually shows the opponent he is hurt
c. gets very scared in the pocket after his first hit.
The book is out on Schaub already. Hit him early and he will not be a factor the rest of the game. Sage might not have the talent of Schaub, but he is a hell of alot tougher. Next year he is gone anyway, so the debate will be over.

Why?

For sure. After that 2nd hit in Pittsburgh he looked like he was about to pass out. He simply never had to face this kind of pounding when he was sitting on the bench in Atlanta. But there will be no QB controversy here because as long as Schaub can wobble back on the field and remain upright for the snap, he'll be the starter. Kubiak has based his entire tenure here on his decision to go get Schaub instead of drafting a QB in 2006 and that means that they will both go down in flames if things don't start to improve (and quickly). I'm expecting the Titans to come out and try to deliver a knockout blow right off the bat by simply pinning their ears back and bullrushing the Texans. The game will be decided in how well the Texans can weather the early storm.
If you haven't already, I would suggest you take a peek at Thomas Hilton's excellent analysis on the upcoming game in his Texans Fan Blog: http://blogs.chron.com/fanblogtexans/2008/09/we_now_return_you_to_our_regul.html (http://). He's spot on about a number of things including the fact that the rest of the NFL has caught on to the zone blocking scheme that Gibbs and Kubiak are trying to use here.
