Texans announce Ahman Green is nursing a sprained ankle

Ahman Green clearly was limping an hour after the game Sunday. The rest of his teammates were already with their families or on the bus, and Green was still slowly getting around to pack up his bags.

At the time, he said he had just "cramped up" and that he was feeling well otherwise. Today, we find out it's a whole other story. He likely sprained his ankle in the first half of the game and is having it looked at this afternoon. The Texans are concerned about how much time Green may miss.

They are trying out a handful of running backs tomorrow, and they clearly are ready to call up Darius Walker from the practice squad if needed.

This is obviously the last thing the Texans wanted to have happen with Green. They gave him time to heal his injuries, and they have given him the benefit of the doubt. What do you do with Ahman Green now though?

No suprise and no big loss IMO. I was hoping to see Slaton starting at some point in the season but didn't think it would be this soon. I definitely didn't like seeing Slaton getting pounded play after play vs. the Steelers.

Even though I want to see Slaton get most of the carries, I'm sure we'll see more of a committee with Taylor/Slaton/Walker. I don't think there is a RB in the league that can taking a beating like our O-Line was letting happen week after week.

i nominate thechosen0ne as mr. breaking news.

as for green, i predict his next injury will be jumper's knee. that's right, the same ailment that kept vince carter from playing.

He has to be able to play in week 2 to get his money. I forget the details, but that's the jist of it.

Hello Cedric Benson.

DD
I dont care about the stupid boating or character issues, Benson has the size and the speed and the ability for a big workload.

I would love to see him in a Texans uniform, I think he would flourish in Alex Gibb's scheme.... speaking of which did horrible in pass protection and rush blocking against the steelers

The guy should retire. He shouldn't build up the hopes of his teammates, the coaches, the owner, and the fans if he can't handle 20 minutes of NFL football.

Agreed...why not take a chance and see what happens...It can't be any worse than what we have here...

Benson was really cut because he wasn't a good NFL back, was way overpaid and his teammates disliked him. He never played well in Chicago.

yeah, I really don't understand the clamor for him. I understand the low risk, but there isn't some high reward there.

He was a total bust in the nfl. Character, off field behavior, durability, ability ... you name it and he sucked at it.

Before him, I cant think of the last time a running back flourished in Chicago...

Benson would be an upgrade over Green

The only reason there is clamor about him is because of the UT fanboys around here. There is no Clamor about Benson in any other state.

What else is new? The guy was injury prone all his career (excluding couple of good years in Green Bay) and now that he is old it is just showing even more. I say cut him and give the younger guys a chance especially Slaton. Benson was overrated in college and never showed anything in the NFL. Either way I don't think the Texans will do anything better than .500 this year.

Thomas Jones flourished in Chicago at the very same time Benson was there. They were very stupid to get rid of him.

Shaun Alexander still around?
Surely he is better than what we have now.

So are you saying we shouldn't even bring him in for a workout? Everything you're saying is the truth but with our RB situation, I really don't see how it could hurt.

And if you look at the RB FAs right now, there isn't a whole lot to choose from. Bell would be a very viable option but I believe we brought him in lastweek but never heard anything about it. We could go with retreads in Dayne, Gado, etc...but even though Benson hasn't shown much, he probably has the most upside out of any of the RBs right now (which is pretty sad).
