I think Rice only lost 1 conference game all year.
Then in the tournament, they lost 2 games...in a row to teams they swept during the regular season
Gramps cannot be happy.

Texas also gets some late-game heroics and help from the Ags to advance to the Big 12 championship game! They've really turned it on late in the year, especially after struggling in conference play. Maybe all that youth is coming together at the right time.

Houston finds out which regional they're going to tomorrow morning at 11:30 am on ESPN. The team is having a veiwing party at 11 am at Skeeters (Gulfgate location). Everyone is welcome.
I think UH is going to either Baton Rouge (LSU), College Station ( A & M) or Houston (Rice) regional.
GO COOGS!

Nice win for the Coogs. Rice didn't give a flip about the conference tourney, since they had already secured a national top 8 seed. Consider it a little charity thrown your way, coog fans.
You won't be paired with the Rice regional. They don't put teams from the same conference together. Like you said, either A$M or LSU is going to be your destination

Nice win for the Coogs. Rice didn't give a flip about the conference tourney now that they've set the record for the highest seeded team ever bounced after 2 days in CUSA tourney history.
Allow me to clarify what biggie was trying to say.

or basketball. or softball. or soccer. or swimming. or track and field. when you think about it, the only thing Rice Fan has to say in the face of mediocrity is "Omaha, baby!"... and that won't fly pretty soon either.

Ummm, do a little research, brah.
Rice dominates UH in most sports over the past few years. Football and basketball this past year being exceptions.
Baseball is a complete route, though, you're right. 8 Silver Gloves in a row.

UH's record against Rice in the Bayou Bucket: 25-9
UH's record against Rice in the Bayou Bucket in the past few years: 7-3 including winning the last THREE games.
UH's record against Rice in the Bayou Cup (basketball): 51-14, including winning both games against Rice this season. I think they split last season.
UH's record against Rice in baseball: 69-76, though admittedly they've only won the Silver Glove once since it's inception in '98.
Uh has absolutely dominated Rice in basketball and football in their all-time history... It's ok though, cause they're a baseball powerhouse...but let's not sugar coat their performance in other sports.

Run that analysis for sports other than football and baseball and it's pretty lopsided over the past 5-10 years....in Rice's favor

O.k....so if we aren't talking football, baseball and basketball...what are these other sports Rice is dominating? Chess isn't a sport. We talking Tennis here? Golf???? Track and Field??? Swimming and Diving??? Tiddly-Winks??
We used to have world class golf and track programs at UH...so I have trouble believing we have fallen so far as to be punked by Rice...but I guess anything is possible.

Rice has an excellent baseball program, which makes it a shame that Rice doesn't do more to support it.
I went to a Super Regional some years back Rice Vs LSU (which is probably one more Rice sporting event than most Rice grads have been to). The crowd was about 70 percent LSU fans who traveled from Baton Rouge. The Rice faithful were loud and boisterous when the Owls had a big inning, but were mostly cowed by the LSU fans for most of the game.
I am aware there are probably more people attending LSU at the moment than have attended Rice in its history...but you would think there would be enough students and Alums to fill Reckling...it seats what 5,000.

This is completely WRONG. I sat through every pitch of that super regional, and didn't hear a peep out of the LSU fans. Maybe that's because they scored exactly zero runs all weekend. Zero. Rice had more fans, also

I was there, it was a Sat Aft Game...and the LSU fans were everywhere (and the damn RV's) they came in were parked outside. Yep, you were right...LSU did not score in the game I attended...and the LSU fans were chanting about their (Five or whatever) National championships....I know because I was talking trash about them going to make as many errors in that one inning than they had National Championships.
Maybe the section you were in was mostly Rice fans (which doesn't surprise me since the UH campus scares the poop out of you, so I wouldn't expect you to sit near LSU fans). But scanning the crowd from where I was it looked like at least 70-30 LSU.
For the record I have rooted for Rice in every game that they have played that doesn't involve the UH, and I think there are a lot of Cougar fans like me. I hope the new Basketball digs make you guys more competitive and I plan to get a ticket and check out the new facility in person when the Cougars play ya'll there.

Well you pointed out that Rice has had the edge in Football and Basketball the past few years...which clearly isn't the case, especially in football.
Rice baseball is a powerhouse, I have no doubt about that, and I'll gladly root for them to do well, except when they play UH. But let's not fool ourselves here, some of their other programs are a borderline joke. But shoot, UH has been there before too...thankfully though football and basketball are on the up again.

You have to admit Rice Baseball is one of the better programs in the nation. Everything else about Rice, academics and (athletics), is a product of manufactured [read: purchased] prestige. You should see how excited the university's supporters, administration, and undergrads get if anyone rates Rice a tier or two below the legitimate Ivies.

I am none too pleased with Riceäs regional right now, especially considering the teams a&m gets to face. I donät mean that as a slight to cougar fans (I always pull for them unless theyre playing rice), but just look at it:
2) UT v. DBU (a 2, seriously?!)
3) SJU v. Houston id give sju a slight edge over UH
4) SHSU v. I-C samäs probably the best 4-seed in the tourney.
im always a naysayer, but i have a bad feeling about this for rice...
on the broader topic of rice v. UH althletics, i cant deny the fact that in 2 of the major 3 sports, uh has had a clear competitive advantage over rice. as far as the rest of the sports go, (ill admit i dont have the facts in front of me) id be willing to venture a guess that the schools are relatively equal.
either way, as a rice fan i dont get upset when coogs brag about their athletic dominance (and from the other side, coogs really shouldnt get a huge self-esteem boost from said boasting) because if it wasnt for the fact that the schools were in the same city, no one would ever think to compare them.

you gotta be kidding me. this isnt a cougar speaking- when I went to look at the campus in HS when making my decision, I was ALWAYS dissapointed. there is a lot of truth to the chant "Rice Girls Are Ugly!!" (but not all of em are... just a large majority.)

Speaking as a UH diehard, I was embarrassed when our fans rushed the field after beating an awful Rice team this year. I understand that they're our biggest rival, but we barely squeaked by them... that sure as hell isn't something to brag about.

It's well-documented that Cougar fans really love running on to the field, for any reason or no reason. Whatever gets the butts in the seats, as far as I'm concerned.
