So I saw a prominent Texans player at a local establishment last night. Yes, I do have pictures, but my intent isnt to throw the guy under the bus. My problem is that he left on a motorcycle. Isn't this a clear violation of a standard NFL contract? And even if it isn't, it just made me mad that this guy would put himself at that kind of risk.

I say live your life. If you want to ride a bike. Ride it. Life is much easier to enjoy when don't worry about other people's lives.

i didn't think riding a bike was a violation of a NFL contract.

I'm no expert, but I don't think it's a violation unless it's specifically put in the contract by the team.
And riding a bike really isn't that dangerous if you ask me, as long as you're smart, safe, and not an idiot on it like Roethlisberger was.
whats the name of our old kick returner guy.
he got in a bike accident.

Yeah, I'm pretty sure any violation would have to be of a clause in said player's contract. However, it is my understanding that nixing motorcycle transport is a pretty standard clause for most contracts...so odds are whoever it is is violating a clause.
My guess would be Mario Williams.

Just out of curiousity, do you get mad at anyone that puts themselves at risk riding motorcycles, or just pro athletes of the teams you follow?

I don't think motorcycle riding is a violation in all contracts, it's probably becoming much more prevelant but it's not standard.

Good for him. I hope he was wearing gear, but motorcycling is a relatively safe activity and excellent mode of transport. He's a lot less likely to get in an accident on the bike than in a car, and if he's wearing safety gear, he's pretty safe even if does get in an accident. If half of Houstonians would trade their cars for motorcycles, then pollution, traffic, and parking issues would be significantly alleviated.

I'll bet the Steelers and Browns don't think that motorcycles are a safe activity for their players.

I was trying not to use some of the more graphic pics. If you do a search for "motorcyclist hits truck", you can find the full range of these pics. It happened in Tulsa last year.

Anyone who rear ends a semi is likely to die no matter what kind of transportation they use. Bikes are just more graphic.

True...if you're going 120 miles/hr.
I hate to say it, but I see more idiots on crotch rockets than not...driving at excessive speeds, swerving in and out of traffic, going in between lanes, etc. etc. I don't see it as much from cruisers. It just seems that as soon as you get on one of these things, you instantly become a moron. I rarely, if ever, see one going the speed limit and observing standard traffic rules.

this was not meant to be a statement of my views on motorcycles- i personally dont care if somebody chooses to ride a motorcycle.....when i said i was angry, im angry that an athlete, OUR athlete would put himself at risk after big ben, jay williams, etc. thats all i meant by that.

I'm sure he appreciates your concern, but OUR athlete is a big boy. He has his GOD-given right to ride a bike if he chooses.

Ridiculous. Can you imagine if I said that about another field? I'm strapped for technicians right now, and if I lost one he'd take a while to replace. How stupid would it be if I demonized them for riding a motorcycle (or riding an ATV, skydiving, scuba diving, rock climbing, or boating)? As fans, we don't employ athletes directly, so we have even less room to criticize their behavior.

which he might have signed away, right? i mean..we all have rights we can contract away. that's the purpose of contract. we give up something to get something else. consideration for consideration.
having said that...i don't know how his contract reads and whether there's prohibition against this sort of thing. just pointing out generally that God-given rights can be contracted away...and if he did, then he shouldn't be riding that bike.
Until there are treadmill clauses in the contracts, too, it's all crap.

Do your technicians require multi-million dollar contracts? Do your technicians sign contracts at all? Yes, there is a difference between a $50,000/yr job and a $5,000,000/yr job. There is simply a much greater risk. The teams have every right to exclude certain activities as much as the players have every right to negotiate those exclusions.
