View Full Version : Fortson to Raptors!!!

What!! And the Raptors get that much better, giving up hardly anything. Alvin Williams and Sean Marks in return for Danny Fortson! This is freaking ridiculous. This guy has the potential to be the best rebounder in the league, and they just added him to a solid nucleus of Antionio Davis, Charles Oakley, Vince Carter, Doug Christie, and Tracy McGrady. Raptors are my new pick to win the east guys.

Geez, you would think the last thing the Raptors would go for is another rebounding power forward ... it's a great deal for them, but they're still weak at PG. With all those frontcourt players expect a deal for a PG.

I didn't really think about that. But, yea, they do have a glut of talent in the frontcourt.
Man, the Raptors really came out looking good in this deal. They pretty much gave up nothing for a whole-lotta something, and now they might just have enough to get that marquee pg w/out trading McGrady.
I didn't know such lopsided deals were possible in the NBA. Makes you wonder if you Rudy would be able to trade TMass and Walt for Derek Anderson...

Fortson puts them over the top in the East? I don't think so.

Maybe now Toronto will finally give us McGrady AND Fortson for Drew, Walt, & Cat.

McGrady or Willis will be gone within the week. When the PG arrives, they will be the team of the east.

I agree, this was a lopsided deal, especially since the Raps also gained a little at PG by claiming the dependable Haywoode Workman off waivers. He doesn't solve their problems, but he is more of a pure PG than Williams will ever be.
However, Butch Carter was not nearly as optimistic as you are as reported in the Toronto Star today:
"If he didn't play well in Denver and they traded him and he didn't play well in Boston, what makes you think he's going to play well here?"
As for the trade, the Raptors were most concerned with saving cap money for the off-season so they can re-sign McGrady. Fortson is in his last year of his contract, and the Raps are not only expected to re-sign TMac but may have enough cap space to sign a Point Guard with the likes of Mark Jackson, H.Eisley, Avery Johnson, Bobby Jackson and maybe even Tim Hardaway. That may be a long-shot, but it is clear that this Toronto team is thinking big.

No guts, no glory, no brain, same story.

Spoke too soon. The deal has been nixed. Williams failed his physical.
