I am in Lubbock right now and the number of (Clear Channel) AM radio stations I can pick here @ night compared to Houston is tremendous.
In Houston (actually 20 mi N. of Downtown) @ night I could pick up (local & clear channel) 610 KILT, 650 WSM Nashville, 700 KSEV, 740 KTRH, 790 KBME, 820 WBAP Ft. Worth, 850AM, 950 KPRC, 1010 KLAT, 1070 KENR, 1080 KRLD Dallas, 1120 KMOX St. Louis, 1130 KWKH Shrevport, 1200 WOAI San Antonio, and then expanded band 1620 WTAW College Station, & 1660 KRZI Waco.
Here @ night I can pick up local stations 580, KFYO 790, 950, Sportsradio 1340 KKAM, 1460, 1550, & 1590. Plus FCC Clear Channel Stations: 640 KFI LA, 650 WSM Nashville, 670 WSCR "The Score" Chicago (just changed from WMAQ News/Talk), XTRA Sports 690 XETRA-AM Tijuana, Mexico; 700 WLW Cincinatti (Reds Flagship), 820 WBAP Ft. Worth, 870 WWL New Orleans, 1020 KCKN Roswell, 1040 WHO Des Moines, 1070 KNX LA, 1080 KRLD Dallas (Rangers Flagship), 1110 KFAB Omaha, 1120 KMOX (Cardinals Flagship), 1130 KWKH Shrevport, 1160 KSL Salt Lake City, 1170 KVOO Tulsa, & 1520 KOMA Oklahoma City.
Now granted most of the stations move in & out and have static, but I can pick them up.
The FCC has a complete list of Clear Channel Stations if you want to try to pick them up.

If you live anywhere by the east coast you should be able to pick up all of the NY stations. If you notice many of the large city stations are MLB Flagship stations. Many other stations I can't pick up also carry MLB: WFAN (Mets), WABC (Yankees), KNBR (Giants), WGN (Cubs), WMVP (AM 1000- White Sox), & KIRO (Mariners) just to name a few.
