Hi everyone.

I'm posting this forum topic trying to gauge the various opinions of online Rocket fans. Let me clarify something immediately: I'm not looking for this thread to degenerate into a flame war (either bashing the starter of this thread or anyone else). I'm just trying to obtain answers concerning this question.

Yes, because they flop on one end, and play dirty on the other. The end.

And they were the former employers of the dirtiest player in the history of sports.

I think the fact that the team name is the Jazz, and is located in Utah says it all.

Hmmmm.... Thats a tough one!

I still remember "The Shot" by Stockton like it was yesterday and it still pains me A LOT every time I think about it or see a video of it! I will always hate Karl Malone and that annoying voice of his! I still hate Stockton and his stupid smirk as well as Jeff "Horny-Sack!"

I don't know why, but for some reason, I can't get the same amount of hatred for Williams and Boozer. I hate the Mavericks more because of how the refs cheated us out of a first-round victory by not calling Finley out of bounds and then calling a foul on Barry! Also, Dirk is a p*ssy, Josh Howard is a douchebag, Devin Harris flops and is a p*ssy, Jason Terry thinks he is the best player when he really sucks, and Stackhouse is a b*tch!

WoW! Hate those Mavs!

They play hard and physical but also bitch on the other end when they don't get the calls.

Same clothes. Different skin.

The only player on the Jazz that i like is Deron Williams. The rest flop, play dirty, cry, whinge to the refs and are just damn ugly. I mean look at Kirilenko.

The most hated of all current Jizz has to be Jerry Sloan. The guy is just an Ass. Just looking at him makes me annoyed because of the way he acts on the sidelines and how he just sits there thinking he rules the world.

How many Championships have you won again Jerry? :D

And how many tries have you had? :D

EDIT : Ronnie Brewer is fun to watch as well.

they are not the same jazz from the 90's. i hated those ass pirates.
i don't have anything against the new jazz except for that euro peon okur. that's a dirty playing mofo.
i respect deron and boozer a lot. they don't boast or brag.

I will always hate the Jazz. With every fiber of my being. Doesn't matter the coach is, the players, the fans, the team colors or even the city they play in. I HATE THE JAZZ.

I hate their fans. Jazz fans are whiney, obnoxious, and crass - all qualities which rub off on their players. Screw the Jazz.

I think most of the long-time Houston fans have issues with the Jazz because it seems like we faced them an awful lot in the playoffs--in the early 90s, we owned them, and in the later 90s, they owned us.

There are issues with Malone, Stockton, and Sloan--no red-blooded Rockets fan can stand looking at those three and not feeling their blood boil.

Plus, I have the added motivator of having grown up with the fan base--I know there are some really annoying fan bases out there in professional sports, but I'd rank Jazz fans up with any of them. It's not their passion or their interest in their team, it's their complete irrationality and stupidity when viewing the game of basketball that drives me nuts.

So yes, I hate the Jazz, but the Jazz of old will always hold a special place for hatred in my heart.

I don't care as much for the new Jazz. Deron and Boozer are no where as annoying as Stockton and Malone. Sloan is a genius coach...I'll give him that. He can take little talent and make it into something. Right now Dallas has taken over. I hate the coach, the players, and the fans. UGH.

Of course we still hate the Jazz. Jerry Sloan is still the coach and they still play the exact same way they always played.

i got nothing against them...deron can ball..and makes boozer that much better. I like AK too, love to see those 9 9 9 9 lines that hes capable of putting up...i dont like jerry sloan tho..and mehmet whines almost as much as dirk.

I dislike Boozer for what he did to the Cavs, but aside from him I don't have anything against any of their players. In fact, I love Deron Williams' game, Kirilenko is amazing to watch when he gets it going, and I wanted Ronnie Brewer on the Rockets.

I dislike Jerry Sloan because he was around when the Jazz had players that I truly hated (Malone, Stockton, Hornacek), but it only goes as far as basketball. I was watching a game a few years ago and they mentioned that his wife had just lost her battle with cancer, so I got online and donated to the pancreatic cancer action network on her behalf. I even started a thread on an NBA forum (not this one) to try and get others to match my donation. Unfortunately nobody did.

So to answer the question, no I do not hate the modern version of the Utah Jazz.

Will always hate the Jazz. It may lighten a bit when Sloan retires but I doubt it.

As long as he is coaching there is still a chance that all 5 players will fall down at the same time without ever being touched.

The dirty Jazz gave the Chuckster's ring to Michael Jordan. There is no need for further explanation.

The overall Jazz legacy will always strike ire/withdrawal/acrimony because of one shot in 1997 taken by a killer white man. That shot is to this day this toughest thing to watch, and for that I will always pull extra hard for Jazz losses, no matter who they have. At the end of the decade though, we have two banners and no matter how many times they came close, they never usurped the Bulls. We end up having two of the strongest arguments hanging in our rafters, and they have none. Helps soothe the pain of the shot.

The modern Utah Jazz, defined to me by the Boozer/Williams era, so essentially the last 2 seasons, only have the playoffs on us. They stole our ticket to the WCF, and it hurt but the team wasn't built to win it all as well as now and it inspired changes that I believe are for the better. Not to say I didn't absolutely hate losing to them, because I would love nothing more than to give them first-round revenge this year. But more than the teams of the 90s, I respect them and recognize their talent. They have elite players at our two weakest spots 1 and 4, so maybe that is probably some part of the root of my envy.

The old Jazz teams I hated. The Lakers team that beat us I hated. I hate the Mavs. This team I envy more than hate. Most important thing is, that we still owe them one shot for last year's playoffs. Then we will be even.

I hate their dirty antics in games. I dislike Boozer cause he dismantled the Rockets and Yao in last years playoffs. I think he's an awesome player though and have mad respect for him. He must have worked extremely hard on that mid range J. I like D-Will but hate it when he plays Sacramento or Houston.

Do you mean the Lakers of '90/'91 or the Lakers teams of '99 and '04?

I don't hate the current Jazz like I hate the stock/malone Spazz. I have high respect for D-Will, he seems like a good guy just stuck on a bad-guy team. I don't really hate any team per se, that title is reserved the mavs. I just dislike them. They have some dirty and physical players but not anywhere as bad as the mavs.

i've always hated the jazz since the stockton and malone days. used to feel better about malone, until he was being an ass on the olympic dream team and tried to intimidate some foreign players. so it's been at least 10 years of disliking them.

I never want the Jazz to win the NBA Championship. Their flopping, and cheating hasn't changed even though they aren't as dirty when Karla and Stockton were there.
The only time I felt happy for Karl Malone was when he established a relationship with Cheryl Ford. Having your kids back in your life is bigger than any Championship in the world.

Your argument for the Jazz racism is terrible.

Anyways I hated the Jazz when they had Stockton and Malone but I like the team they have now. They arent scared to get down and dirty when they have to. Carlos Boozer is a monster in the paint and Deron Williams is one of the best pg's in the game today. Ronnie Brewer was a guy I wanted as well.

The only team I can say I dont like is the Mavs.

I never disliked the old Jazz team. I didn't like Malone, but I've always liked Stockton and Sloan. The new team I dislike more because of Boozer backstabbing Cleveland. But, I like Sloan and Kirilenko and Harpring. Williams is cool too.

Of course, they are still the enemy.

I only hated Karl Malone because he was the dirtiest players on earth.

The only team I hate is the Lakers. The only team I love is the Rockets. Other than that, I only "love" and "hate" players, not teams.

BTW, for those who hate the Jazz because they flop and whine, my question is, which team doesn't?

SamFisher

yes because they suck

Dr.Strangelove

A resounding YES should be the answer.

Even though Sloan is perhaps the best coach in the League he is the main reason they are so despicable.....carrying on for generations, the gift that keeps on giving.

His teams reflect exactly how he played.

Now,toss in Larry Miller and all the other whiners that have been snatching up tickets at the Delta Center for years, our history with them,Stockton,Malone,etc.........It's just a recipe of madness when looking at the last 20 - 25 years.

I can't stand Kirilenko or Okur. I dislike Boozer on the court due to how demonstrative he is. He just comes off like a d#ck. Of the court, Boozer seems like a good guy. Deron Williams is first PG I would take if I could have any in the league (much of that due to his young age).

Overall, I dislike the Jazz quite a bit but not as much as I hate the Mavs or the Suns.

I don't like the flopping but I hate the Mavs more than any other team. I like SOME of the players on the Jazz... mainly D Williams.

12-10-2007, 04:40 PM
I didn't like the 90's version of the Jazz b/c refs called the game based on reputation. The flopping thing is obvious, but there were particular things that always got to me.

Karl Malone would get away with hacking on defense when he tried to strip the ball from his defender as the shooter was making a move. Malone would also initiate a lot of contact on both ends, but would complain to refs about any sort of contact while he is on offense.

I never liked John Stockton's haircut, and Hornacek's free throw routine was simply obnoxious.

I don't have too much of a problem with the newest version of the Jazz. Deron Williams and Carlos Boozer play with passion and seem to be working hard to improve individually for the benefit of the team.

But like anyone who plays against the Rockets, I am not partial and dislike them because they are good.

I've never hated the Jazz, per se.

I always had an appreciation for Jerry Sloan's offense and his abilities as a coach. From a basketball purist standpoint, Utah was a breath of fresh air with its screening, smart decision making and passing ability in an era of slam dunks, turnovers and long bombs.
