Not much of a surprise here...

Texans put Ahman Green on IR (http://www.chron.com/disp/story.mpl/front/5360662.html)

The Texans placed running back Ahman Green, 30, on the inactive list today, marking the end of a disappointing season for the veteran back.

Green, who injured his knee in Week 1, was never healthy enough to finish a game this season. He has been inactive for six of the 12 weeks.

"It's frustrating," Green said. "I tried my best rehabbing and running around. I know from practicing and watching film, I felt good, but it's not quite there. That's the frustrating part. And what it boils down to is not knowing what we're dealing with.

"I kept feeling the way I felt prior to games and when I go into games, then bam. A couple plays in, I'm out. I don't want to do that to myself. I don't want to do that to my team. I want to make sure I help my team by being honest with them about how I feel, so they can be ready for the game in terms of having guys on the field that are healthy and can get the job done."

The Texans will activate undrafted rookie Darius Walker for the first time this week to back up Ron Dayne.

Mike Brisiel, who was signed off the practice squad this week, will start at right guard. Rookie Kasey Studdard will also be involved in the rotation at right guard. They will try to fill in for veteran Fred Weary, who broke his right leg last week against Tennessee.

To fill Green's spot on the roster, the Texans will sign quarterback Shane Boyd off the practice squad. He will backup Sage Rosenfels, since Matt Schaub cannot play with a dislocated shoulder.

Green is the 17th player to the placed on the Texans injured reserve this season. They lead the league in players on IR.

17 players on IR. Certainly explains a lot of the inconsistency of this team. I wonder if it will become 18 with Schaub.

What a lot of money they decided to pay Ahman Green. I think that was just a bad decision. I doubt he will play one full year as a starter ever again. I think he would be a good part-time back still, but as the backup to Dayne, or someone else if they have a chance to pickup a good tailback in the draft.

Green is damaged goods. How ironic it is when he leaves, the Packers go off.

It's not like they did it with a renewed running game. Favre is throwing like crazy. Only over the past few games have they had a decent running game.

I liked the signing at first but was very weary of the amount of money we gave him. There was so much talk about the Broncos zone-blocking scheme and the ability to just plug in a back, so I was suprised that the Texans payed Green that much considering his age/injury history.

There are a lot of quality backs in this draft so I'm hoping the Texans pick up some young legs with speed.

Wow, who would of thought by this time in the season we would have Sage as our starting QB and Dayne as our starting RB? Even w/ Andre back, we are still snake-bit.

Green may have played his last game as a Texan.

I have a feeling they're going to cut bait after this season. I have no idea what the cap ramifications would be, but if they can, they'll try to go younger.

Don't forget about Chris Taylor, too. Kubiak was pretty high on him last season and he would have been used quite a bit had he not gotten hurt at the beginning of training camp. If he gets all the way back, I wouldn't be surprised to see him get a fair shot as the starter next season (assuming they don't draft a RB in the first couple of rounds).

Michael Turner....it's a collect call from the Texans. Will you accept the charges?

We aren't using the Broncos zone blocking scheme, we are using a hybrid of Green Bay's power blocking and Denver's zone blocking. Hopefully we will focus on zone blocking once Sherman leaves.

Which is exactly what will happen if they promote Kyle Shanahan to Offensive Coordinator.

I forgot about that...good call. I really hope we spend our FA money on the O-Line or secondary. If we draft a RB, he can contribute right away.
