View Full Version : future Super Bowl locations

I think its about time the NFL decides on a good rotation of locales for the Super Bowl. Enough of this Detroit and Jacksonville stuff..... Seems like its pretty random in their selection of a site for a future Super Bowl.

If I were the commish I would rotate between these 8 locales:

1. San Diego
2. Tampa
3. Miami
4. New Orleans
5. Atlanta
6. Phoenix
7. Houston
8. Dallas (once their monster $1billion stadium is complete)

To me, those cities give you the best shot at good weather and are not going to be frozen tundras or boring locations for travelers.

I really think Houston deserves another Super Bowl. By all accounts we had a great response from visitors, the weather was nice, and we have a kick-ass facility to boot.

It can do that in any US city (well, maybe not Honolulu) in January.

That, and they're building a brand new, state-of-the-art, multi-gazillion-dollar stadium, and they're keeping the stupid ass-ugly square hole in the roof. How amazingly, spectactularly stupid. Only South Oklahoma could come up with that.

I know you are a homer and all, but Houston will not be getting a SB again for a long, long time. Dallas will get the dibs for many, many years to come.

Those are just the breaks! You have 1 stadium that is now undersized, next door to an eyesore, and a new state of the art stadium that will seat 100,000 people for the SB. Just can't compete with that. :D

BTW, I know it will be hard to ever admit this, but Dallas will get the nod for a future summer olympics way before Houston. :D

San Diego is a great city in terms of weather, location, and people (the girls.... ) but the one major thing that's holding them back is the fact that their stadium is like 35 years old. Jack Murphy/Qualcomm Stadium is one of the few stadiums left that were built in the 60s. Needless to say, it's not a Super Bowl worthy stadium. The city, however, is.

The NFL has said that they will not come back to San Diego until a new stadium is built. Unless the Chargers build a stadium here in Chula Vista, the Superbowl will probably end up in LA along with the Chargers.

Generally, a vent is placed in the top of something so that hot air can escape.

Although, the butthole example seems much more applicable, it being retractable and all.

The Superbowl is quickly becoming the most overrated sporting event of the year.

Screw this "warm weather" crap. Have the Superbowl in Washington DC, New York, Philly, New England, and Green Bay. These are freaking FOOTBALL players for God's sake! Those pussy corporate a-holes don't like the weather? ***** em!! They can give their tickets to real fans that will appreciate the game. Better yet, forget the whole neutral site thing all together and give the home field advantage to the team with the better record. Split the ticket sales down the middle for each team. These guys play the conference championship games in the snow, why not the Superbowl? Give the Superbowl back to the FANS where it belongs.

Wow...do you know anything about the superbowl or the nfl? It's not just a game, it's a huge event that attracts thousands of people into the city. People want to enjoy themselves, not freeze their balls off.

There is not enough time to set up everything in a city for the super bowl in under 2 weeks. They have to designate a host city before the season. The host committee start planing a year in advance.

1. I don't see them doing repeat performances in Dallas...because it's essentially an open-air stadium in late-January, early-February in Dallas.

2. Dallas never had anything remotely close to a legit olympic bid. The facilities are far too spread out, and they're still lacking key ones. The strength of the Houston bid is the proximity from stadium to stadium. And the fact the bigger ones are all connected by rail.

I know people who have been to many super bowls and most of them did not like Houston as a venue - too much traffic, and lacking the excitement of Miami/LA or pre-storm New Orleans.

You should never hold the super bowl in a place where people wouldn't go on vacation. Sorry Houston, Jacksonville, Dallas, Detroit etc - but you don't make the cut.

Try 7 years in advance.

I recall Houston putting up there bid for another Superbowl a couple years ago. The committee went somewhere else and their excuse was "Houston just had the Superbowl." The next year we put up our bid, and the committee went with Miami, even though they're already hosting it in 2009.

What a bunch of bullsh!tters. Screw them. H-Town won't be hosting until the next Stadium gets built. Probably in 2020. (By then, Reliant will be archaic and inappropriate.)

I can't even knock McNair for only getting 1 SB guaranteed for Houston as part of the 750 million franchise fee agreement, but for that much, he should have received a guarantee to have Reliant in the SB rotation.

But now that Dallas will have a state of the art, retractable roof, with a seating capacity of 100,000 specifically for the SB, McNair can't compete with that.

Veeeery possible. We'll see how it plays out.

The posts made by others about cities with better attractions for this type of event have gotten me thinking, though. Interesting.

When the SB comes to Dallas again, it'll give me all the more opportunities to call them names! (All in good fun, of course.)

You have got to be kidding me. I really hope you are. I live in DFW and during their little Super Bowl bid process, and they barely won. They had to re-vote four times between Indianapolis and Dallas. Dallas ended up winning, but only by two votes. Indy's new stadium capacity is the same as Reliant's. Another funny thing was all of the Metroplexers dancing around saying "we finally get to showcase Texas to the NFL". Uh...Houston hosted the SB twice before.

Next, I hope the NFL really enjoys shopping at the big ass Walmart Supercenter right next door to the new stadium in Arlington. Walmart has already stated that they aren't leaving. It is funny how in the stadium renderings, they don't show that Walmart Supercenter that was just recently built. Next, Arlington has no public transportation, which will make it harder to move people around.

Then, Dallas, Fort Worth, Grapevine, Irving, Grand Prairie, and Arlington all want a piece of the Super Bowl action. They all are trying to have their own little parties and things. The Super Bowl events are spread out all over the place (some as many as 30-40 miles apart). In Houston, everything was centralized.

After the (flood) Super Bowl in Miami last year, I think the NFL will be a little hesitant in the future. Dallas also freezes over around Super Bowl time. It gets all icy on the roads and people are slippin' and slidin'. Cars are always flipped over someplace and it isn't a pretty site.

Having a 100,000 seat stadium doesn't mean anything because if that was the case, Washington D.C. or New York City would have the Super Bowl every year. Much more goes into it than that.

And about the Olympic comment. You do know that Houston was one of only five U.S. cities invited back to submit a bid to host the 2016 Olympics right (this was in 2006)? The only other cities were San Fran, Chicago, Philly, and Los Angeles. If they really wanted to have Dallas, then they would have chosen Dallas. Dallas just as a stupid layout and bad city leaders.
