View Full Version : Roy Williams (WR) Wants Out and Back to Texas

Neither player will say it publicly, but two of Detroits best offensive players -- receiver Roy Williams and running back Kevin Jones -- are counting the days until they can leave Detroit. While the losing seasons have taken their toll on the two players, there are other reasons why they want to leave the Lions organization and their motives arent exactly the same. Williams and Jones, who were both first-round draft picks in 2004, will become unrestricted free agents after next season and sources close to the players say theyve had enough and want out. At one time, Williams embraced the teaching of coordinator Mike Martz and even endured his sometimes abrasive coaching style, but that situation has changed. Williams has offered thinly veiled criticisms recently of Detroits offensive game plan and his role in it.Still, the overriding factor for Williams is that he simply wants to go home or get closer to it. The one thing you learn about Williams very quickly is that he loves Texas and would love to return to his home state.

Don't blame him for wanting out of Detroit, they showed their true colors after getting off to such a great start.
I know it's an absolute pipe dream but AJ and Roy Williams lining up w/ one another. I know, it's the Texans...but you might as well dream big if you're gonna dream at all.

That could be the break this franchise needs. I'd love to see that get done.
What about Kevin Jones? Is he any good? Is he old? Is he fast?
My goodness, a running back that wants to come to Texas? Roy's nice and all, but tell me about that running back!
Do they have any offensive tackles that want to come to Texas???

Looking at both Texas teams, which one would you prefer?
Looking at both Texas teams, which one would you prefer?
There's only one team in Texas. If you'll remember, San Antonio failed to land a franchise even after building that hideously ugly "Alamodome".
If you're referring to "America's team", that's a common mistake people make. That team plays in South Oklahoma, not in Texas.

Not old - but injury prone. Was in college and has been in the NFL. This year, he's coming back from some kind of serious knee injury. Been kind of mediocre in the NFL, but he was also playing in Detroit.

Kitna is the most sacked QB in the league this year with 47 - 12 more than the 2nd place Big Ben. I don't think we want any of their o-line guys. :)

Don't get me confused with being a Cowboy fan. My point is, if you were a receiver looking at a Texas team, would you prefer to play with Romo/Owens or Schaub/ Johnson. I don' think that's a hard choice.

That would be a dream come true, but he is going to be a restricted free agent. Thus Detroit can match any deal. I know they are a bad franchise, but they aren't stupid enough not to match any offer he gets.

The article states they will be UNrestricted FAs.
grummett- While the TO/Romo combo is obviously the much better combo, I think a lot of players would steer away from TO if they could. He's been quiet this year but then again, they're winning and he's getting touches. If any WR came in and began taking receptions/TDs from TO, I would bet you would see the old TO almost instantly.

It only said that Williams was wanting to come back to Texas. Kevin Jones simply wants out of Detroit hell.
Put Roy in some liberty blue and lets ball.....

williams is injury prone also. I've always liked jones, a younger version of ahman green imo, but he's injury prone also. if the texans could get either one, I would go for jones, its the bigger need. love williams' natural ability though.

Roy went to Odessa Permian and goes back there every summer to do his football camp. Unfortunately, dallas is much closer to Odessa than Houston.
Too bad...the Texans could use some of that MOJO. Maybe McNair can let him use the company jet to fly back and forth between Houston and Odessa during the summer?
Besides, aren’t we talking about the year after next? Hard to get excited about something that MAY happen 2 years from now.

Would love to see him in Houston, but I think he'd rather go to Dallas...He'd have TO type numbers and be involved in every facet of the game...

Seriously...too bad he's been wasting away in Detroit because I think he is a Top 3 WR in terms of talent and natural ability.

Oh, I didn't intend to imply that you are a Cowboy fan. Just taking any opportunity to slap dallas.

The real question is who will have the salary cap room for these guys. Arent' the Texans going to clear 20 million off the books next season?

Ooh mama! RW teamed with AJ? That would just be sick and I think it would make the rest of the AFC sick as well! :D

I love Roy, but this team has a lot of holes that need to be filled before WR. O-line, RB, S, CB, OLB should all be filled before we look to splash a ton of money on a wide out. The receivers have been the strongest unit on the team this season.

You can just hear Roy Williams after the Texans played San Diego this year - "it's stupid how close we were to putting 40 points on the board".

The same way you would think about Randy Moss, everyone said before this season that he was a cancer in the locker room, he always talking, etc. But this season is a very different person, like T.O, and Moss is winning and getting TDs. I think T.O is a different person now.

Roy Williams in the Cotton Bowl vs LSU was awesome. That LSU team won the National Championship next year. No one on LSU could cover Roy.

If I was a receiver it would be Dallas, but only because TO is 33 or 34 now and I'd have a chance to be the number one guy there in a couple of years. When Schaub and Johnson are both healthy, They've proven to be a very good tandem. Problem is, they have both suffered injuries this season.
The article states they will be UNrestricted FAs.

Yeah, that is exactly why TO keeps saying he can't wait until Terry Glenn gets back, so he can help the team be even better.

It always amazes me when people don't realize that. Same jackasses that thing George W Bush is from Texas I suppose.

Exactly. TO isn't exactly young, so while Patrick Crayton is solid, he isn't star material and the Cowboys are going to need a franchise WR for Romo to throw to a few years down the line. I would LOVE to see both Roy Williams' in the Silver and Blue. :)

Sorry, but do you guys really think he would want to go play with the Texans over the Cowboys? Schaub hasn't stayed healthy and Romo has been flat-out awesome.

How many of you Dallas "fans" in here were born and raised in Dallas or resonably close to it. If any of you are Houstonians, you aren't Cowboy fans, you are bandwagoners.

I still remember Bob Stoops saying in effect "I sure as hell would have thrown it up to Roy Williams" or the like when asked why Texas took a knee in the Red River game right before half in a close game.
Another Roy Williams on America's team would be sweet. TO and Glenn are no spring chickens and Crayton is fine 3rd WR but marginal #2. Wouldn't mind him on the Texans either, AJ and him would be fun. As for Kevin, I thought Dallas should have drafted him the Juluis Jones year. Kevin Jones is a good all runner and good all around back.

I'd rather play with Rosenfels/Johnson than Team Obliterator. Romo is pretty good, but is cursed with playing for that city in south OK
