Okay, my family owns this nail salon that is pretty well known. Here's what happened a couple of days ago.

An older man (50-70's) brings a little girl about 10-11 years old in to get a pedicure and manicure. Well during her manicure, the manicurists starts talking to the girl saying,"Is that your Grandfather?, what is he to you." She responds with, "we're not related, he's going to take me to a MOTEL   after this. He tells me he loves me all the time and that he wants to marry me. He buys me things all the time." Thinking about this, I don't think a 10-11 year old would make up a story like this.

After hearing this, the manicurist went up and told the manager( my uncle). He calls the cops, they come, question the man, and let him go. Took the kid to the station to get her with her parents.

Moral of the story: Watch your KIDS!!

yeah I don't get it. Wouldn't they question the parents and then at least find out if they should charge him with kidnapping? Question the kid and find out if they should charge him with rape?

Crazy..

That's what I was thinking. Maybe they didn't have enough evidence, but are slowly building their case against him or I wouldn't be surprised if they raided his house by now and found nothing but child porn everywhere.

You would be surprised how hard it is to get someone arrested or get a child removed from a house.

I work part time in human services (because I love the kids I deal with) and I've seen too many sad stories of kids going back to places they shouldn't have been in to start with

That's really not funny at all. This kid narrowly missed getting taken to a motel and raped.

Hey - I'm glad they called the cops. Sure, it would have been better if they'd arrested him, but the manager and staff at the shop certainly saved that girl from devastating trauma.

I'd be interested in hearing how the parents lost the girl.

Yeah, They did the right thing. It's just crazy the way the little girl said everything. Like the, " He says he loves me and wants to marry me," and " he buys me things every time." She was truly brainwashed and most likely this has happened to her before.

I was wtf when he was arrested, but I guess they didn't have a case against him.

i don't understand the cops letting him go part. i'm guessing the parents knew their child was with this guy, otherwise i'm guessing they would have filed kidnapping charges.

It's probably more of a reflection of our judicial system than it is of HPD.

If our judges keep letting criminals go and putting them back on the streets, the cops just stop arresting people.

So, they're both messed up.

Even more disgusting: After the cops let the pedophile go, they probably returned to their duty of running a speed trap. It'd be nice if they actually went after the bad guys instead of the normal people who are driving to work.

The system really seems to work against kids

At least in my area the people that work at children and youth are under paid and over worked. Many of them seem to burn out real fast then are just going through the motions.

It takes alot for a child abuse case to be "substantiated" -- much more then a 3yr old child having a large bruise on the back of his leg and him saying that Mom's boyfriend did it.

not to be dense
but
man . .. children lie
If they kid doesn't like Mommy's boyfriend. . alot of them know a well placed lie
can make him go away

these things *have* to be investigated and triple checked
Cause once the pedophile/molestor/abuser tag is on you
. . . even if it is proven baseless. . . .
you stuck with it

That's what makes it so difficult --- if they can't prove it beyond a doubt the kid goes back to the abusive situation. How can you prove what's happening when the child doesn't have the language to express it.

The system now will err on the side of the potential abuser not on the side of the child.
