The Dynamo finally will let the cat out of the bag on one of the team's worst-kept secrets this summer.
The team will announce today that Houston-based electricity provider Amigo Energy will be the Dynamo's jersey sponsor.
The Dynamo become the fifth Major League Soccer team to land a jersey sponsor, joining the Los Angeles Galaxy, Chivas USA, Real Salt Lake and Toronto FC. The New York Red Bulls have sported the logo of energy drink Red Bull, their parent company, since 2006.
The agreement will be unveiled tonight at the Dynamo's Summer Soccer Ball at Planeta Bar-Rio, 6400 Richmond. The fan appreciation night is free of charge and open to the public.

Any idea on how much $ this brings the Dynamo? I would imagine this could only help them get a new stadium deal...

I haven't seen any mention about money or the length of the deal yet. I'm sure that info will be out in a few days.

Can't say that I like the corporate logo and it isn't because it's a company. I think the design is too clunky. For instance, I don't mind the corporate designs on either Toronto FC (BMO), Los Angeles (Herbalife), or Real Salt Lake (Xango) - all are streamlined and do not detract from the jersey's look. Guess I'll have to go buy an authentic Dynamo jersey before the change hits the shelves.

I think the deal is reported as 7.5 million to sponsor the jersey through 2010.

Have you ever made a positive contribution to a thread or is it always just trolling?
EDIT: Here's a link to a Hi-Res pic of the new jersey:

It seems to me the logos would be the other way around . It looks to me like we are the Houston Amigo Energys .

I don't mind the sponsor logo being there, but it shouldn't be in the front center & 10x bigger than the Dynamo logo.

Am i the only one who has never heard of Amigo energy drinks?
Too bad we couldn't have gotten the Duff energy drinks or Buzz Cola they we're selling at the converted Kwik-E-Marts that promoted the Simpsons movie. :D I've got a case but have yet to open it.

Hey, it looks more like a legitimate Soccer Jersey now. If you see me, don't mistake my Chelsea jersey for being a Samsung Mobile Jersey. ;)

Energy drink? where did you get that from? :D
Amigo Energy is a privately owned, full-service Retail Electricity Provider (REP) to residential and commercial customers in Texas. It was founded four years ago by two Hispanic businessmen – a father and son team with more than 20 years of collective experience in the Texas deregulated electricity market.

Great deal for the team, it covers pretty much the entire salary of the whole roster each year. Now they can funnel the money into advertising, infrastructure improvements, etc.
can we get a washed up euro now?
Looking at you frenchie.

I'm actually pretty happy that the 2 best teams in the league (Houston and NE) built their teams mostly with home-grown talent. I don't see a compelling need to pick up a old foreign player unless we end up with a talent arms-race in the next few years

Dynamo cash dilemma: Designated player or stadium?
Now that the Dynamo have $7.5 million to spend over the next 3 1/2 years thanks to their newfound friends at Amigo Energy, they need to make up their minds and invest on a designated player.
Or at least that's what Dynamo prez Oliver Luck seem to suggest when the jersey-sponsorship deal was announced last week.
When asked about the chance for a DP signing, the Houston Business Journal quoted Luck as saying:
``Our salary cap is $2.1 million so we only have a certain pot of money. (The sponsorship) might give us a bit of leeway in finding a player who fits into that category.''
Actually, the salary cap is now around $2.4 million, but who's counting?
But wait a minute. Doesn't the team have a stadium to build?
Last time we checked the price tag for the proposed venue hovered around $80 million. And last time we checked, parent company AEG was not about to foot the whole bill.
The rest of the money will have to come from somewhere else (city, county, Sports Authority) in some way or fashion (money, land, etc.). Why not use the sponsorship money toward the financing of the stadium?
DP or stadium? Where should the money go?
How badly do the Dynamo need a DP? For the third year in a row (including their last year as the Quakes) they're one of the league's top teams.
Then again, the team has no high-profile Latino players -- actually, no Latino players at all -- and no player of international fame (we won't count Canada, eh?).
If you say DP, who fits the mold?
Hot news from AP: Brian Ching was removed from the United States' starting lineup against Sweden on Wednesday because of a strained left groin.
Ching thought he likely strained the groin Sunday, when he played and scored for Houston in a 1-0 victory over Dallas in Major League Soccer, U.S. team spokesman Michael Kammarman said. Benny Feilhaber replaced Ching.
Remember how Ching left the game and the stadium early? Dominic Kinnear said Ching experienced tightness then. Now it's a strained legft groin.
