Rotoworld is reporting the signing but the original info came from the blog of a sportswriter from the Washington Post.

Good, about time. I'd rather have DeMarcus Faggins as our 2nd receiver than when we had Kevin Walters.

lol, I don't even think it's a lock he makes the team but I like as many bodies at camp as possible to compete for jobs

i'd be shocked if he didn't make the team. the guy played in 16 games last season. given the fact we're so thin at that position, i'm guessing he has a spot on this roster.

McCardell isn't going to be te #2. It's still Walter's job to lose. Kubiak loves the kid. He hasn't really had a shot, yet, to get the playing time that he's going to get this season. McCardell will be a great #3/possession receiver/veteran presence.

Wow, I thought for sure he would sign with a contender. Maybe he has.... ;)

Seriously, that should be a good pair of hands for Shaub to depend on for those 3rd and 5 type situations. Not to mention a good locker room guy.

Schein on the Afternoon Blitz announced the pickup around 4:15p. But it could still be a rumor.

More Texans coverage With training camp just two days away, the Texans have been busy with more than just rookie negotiations. They are working to finalize the entire roster heading into Friday's first workout.

Monday, the Texans continued talks with their unsigned rookies, including Amobi Okoye and Jacoby Jones. They also officially signed Brandon Harrison (fifth round) to a four-year, $1,847,125 which includes a $182,125 signing bonus. Kasey Studdard (sixth round) signed a four-year, $1,765,600 deal, which includes a $100,600 signing bonus.

Signed rookies were able to report to camp last Sunday, but there are no organized activities planned until two-a-days start Friday. Rookies cannot report to camp until they have signed their contracts.

In other roster moves, the Texans agreed to a contract with unrestricted free agent Matt Turk, a veteran punter who will challenge Chad Stanley during training camp.

Turk, an 11-year veteran, has played in 171 games for four teams, including 16 games with the St. Louis Rams last year. His career net punting average of 37.3 yards per punt is the best in the NFL since he entered the league in 1995. Only 335 of Turk's 862 career punts (38.8 percent) of his punts have been returned.

Stanley, an eight-year veteran, struggled last season, especially away from home. His net average was 36.7 yards and he had 11 punts downed inside the 20 and five touchbacks. Turk's net average last season was 38.3 yards — ranking him seventh in the NFL. He had 26 downed inside the 20 and five touchbacks.

The Texans also released seven players, including fullback Cory Anderson, guard Atlas Herrion, center Enoka Lucas, cornerback Derrick Roberson, running back Darius Walker, punter Eric Wilbur and linebacker Zac Woodfin.

Keenan McCardell denied reports Monday that he was joining the Texans. McCardell said he hasn't agreed to terms with the Texans or any other team. He said he hasn't even spoken to the Texans in a week. While McCardell continues weighing offers from several teams, Texans coach Gary Kubiak said he remains hopeful that eventually the veteran wide receiver will choose the Texans.

Mould signed with the Titans.

And I'm sure if McCardell was signed, McClain would be all over it.

WR McCardell signs one-year deal with Texans

Veteran receiver Keenan McCardell, a Houston native who played for San Diego last season, has agreed to a one-year contract with the Texans.

McCardell said he had numerous offers and left some money on the table to sign with his hometown team. He'll be payed $820,000 this season and got a $40,000 signing bonus.

"I'm really excited about playing with the Texans,'' McCardell said. "They've been interested in me for quite a while and even though other teams were too, this just seem like a natural fit for me.''

McCardell will sign his contract Friday morning and will be on the field when the Texans begin practicing.

Someone has to say "releasing Eric Moulds makes no sense". As mediocre as Moulds was last season he beat McCardell in every category (except yards per catch), even TDs with his 1 compared to McCardell's ZERO. Must just be a money saving alternative for a veteran presence who'll be more accepting of a lessened role while younger players get a look. Not that I'ma big fan of Moulds, just wondering what the Texans are doing

It was my understanding that Moulds asked to be released out of frustration over David Carr (whom the team originally suggested would remain as starter next year because of a lack of takers).

But that could be mistaken on my part.

I agree that McCardell is a (slight) step down from Moulds.

I don't understand replacing Moulds with Mccardell but at least they got some veteran in.

Had Moulds slowed down? I heard Andre Ware commenting on SportsDrivel 610 that Moulds was slower than they had hoped for towards the end of last season.
