Except he loaded the bases before he could finish the game. I wouldn't call that lights out.

We actually won a one run game on the road, against Pittsburg no less. Man, first the Rockets sign Francis, and the Astros get a win on the road. What is happening in this town?

It was really good to Lidge get another save.

his pitches were pretty filthy. he basically only loaded the bases because of a bad call by the ump.

I didn't get to see the game but I heard the end on the radio.

On the "hit batter", was it even close on the replay? That would have seriously sucked to lose the game on that call.

Also, how close was the foul ball down the line? They made it seem like it could have gone either way. It was the Pirate announcers on XM, so I'm not sure if they were homers or they called it right.

man, i'm glad there's not. the season is too long for that. i enjoy watching games, in and of themselves. root for them to win in each game. i wouldn't want to be thinking in the back of my mind last night (a random game in mid-July against Pittsburgh) that it would be better for us to just lose. at that point, everyone just tunes out entirely.

I know, I was being sarcastic.

I would love a big run from this team, and there are things to cheer for, like Pence, and Lidge getting back on track etc....

But outside of Roy the pitching is just almost unbearable, and to think we are stuck with Woody (The Marlbaro Man) Williams for another year....eck.

At least Jennings and his pop gun arm are going to be gone.

I really think Purpura/McLane are out of their league as GMs...

Max, you couldnt have said it better. A lot of my buddies ask me why I still watch the Astros games. I just cant not watch. I too, want them to win each and every game. Suffering through these types of seasons, makes the good ones even sweeter. Plus, the Astros are my squad.

the ball bounced between his feet and he jumped up like it hit him in the back foot.

it was clearly foul.

The ball hit between his legs. It could have clipped his pants on the bounce but that's it. He sold it like he really got hit when the ball clearly didn't make contact with any flesh.

Twenty men left on base?!! Isn't that some kind of record? Wow, it isn't easy to always drive in runs, but you should be able to do it occasionally. Good grief, the Astros are giving new meaning to the term, "untimely hitting."

Cannonball

Dude, you're looking at the wrong LOB stat. That's cumulative. As in the first 3 men get on and load the bases and the next 3 strike out. 3 men are left on, but in the column you're looking at it adds 3 LOB for each player that struck out for 9 total even though only 3 guys were left on.

We had 10 LOB tonight which still isn't good but is better than 20.

Why do the pirates own us? I thought tonite the two killer at bats were Burke's and Loretta's in seventh. Either one of them get a hit and it is a completely different ballgame. Of course, Sanchez hits a homer the very next at bat and kills any momementun the Astros might have had.

Just a side effect of being a bad team. Remember when we used to own terrible teams like the Pirates and the Brewers on a yearly basis? I miss those days too...:(

Woody is looking good today. He just made a grate diving play to end the 6th. He has been pitching much better of late. Could have really used it earlier in the season...

Pence hurt his wrist. I'm not sure how because I was watching the British Open. He's apparently going for x-rays. Scott came in for him and drove in the lone run of the game to this point...

They're calling it a sprain. I'm sure he'll be out for at least this week. Really need Lance to be back in to have any chance of winning a game.

It's always nice to get a series win, especially when being the worst road team in the league...and even if we did get outscored in the series.

Very nice 9th by Lidge and a great game by Woody. He really looked strong today.

We know it wasn't this year.... and with 32 saves last year, I would have a hard time believing that there wasn't at least one that fit the criteria you mentioned above.

Either way, Brad Lidge is throwing the good slider with regularity again... and that sets everything else up to perfection. Credit the organization for not selling him for .10 cents on the dollar. Now, we'll see which direction they can take with a chip like him in the fold.

Yep, Sept 8th and Aug. 1st (and I didn't look further back than that). Amazing how spoiled we were to think he was THAT horrible last year.. ;)

Well, compared to what he was in 04 and 05, and thus what was expected of him last year, he was THAT horrible.

However, we had Qualls, Wheeler, and even Miller pitching quality bullpen innings... thus they were still somehow able to finish above .500 despite not having a sub 3 ERA from Lidge.

This year is a different story... and as a result, Lidge seems even MORE dominant since the affore-mentioned bullpen pitchers have slumped all year.

lidge was horrible last year.

to your credit, you're one of the few people who wanted to keep him, and obviously that was the correct move.
