Damn. Carl Everett is playing HUGE for the Red Sox. I know the Astros have other problems (first and foremost there starting pitching) but damn if they did not make a huge mistake by trading Carl Everett. The guy was on the way to superstar status last year with the Stro's. He is so clutch!! Something that team needs desperately...

To me the shortstop prospect we got in exchange from the Red Sox (also named Everett) better turn into a freaking all star for the Stros. But who knows. If not we can say the Astro fans got SCREWED in this trade. Yeah I know the Astros management was not willing to give Everett the top dollar contract he wanted. But that was a huge mistake on their part to give up Carl Everett.

Watch, Carl Everett will be starting the All star game and will be in serious consideration for MVP. He is that good.

Too bad Drayton McClain was to cheap to pay Carl the money he deserved.

PS- I know the Astros have two young outfield prospects in (Berkman and Ward) but that does not excuse the fact of just giving away a player like Carl Everett.

Don't worry...I think Hun has an ace up his sleeve. Think about it, Gooden for CASH, Everett for 2 minor leaguers with little salaries, and Hampy for players who are relativley cheap. They opted not to re-sign Guitierez, so defenatley are clearing money for a shortstop. I think we will have Alex Rodriguez by next year.

If we do get A-Rod, we will be in a lot of 14-12, 16-13 games because our weakness is pitching. The biggest mistake the Hun ever made was not resigning Randy Johnson. We gave up 2 qualty pitchers and a second baseman just to have Johnson for 3 months? We should have asked for Pedro Martinez in the Everett deal http://bbs.clutchcity.net/ubb/biggrin.gif Imagine having Johnson and Martinez? WOW

Rkman - As much as I wish they would go after A.Rod they will not do it. They can't afford him. (Rumor has it that he may be the next $200 million contract). I think they are counting on the shorstop prospect in the Carl Everett trade to be their shortstop of the future (that may be as soon as next year).

Don't forget that Bagwell's contract is coming to an end. The Astros management is saving up their cash (and trust me they will need to show Bagwell the Money!!!). Bagwell deserves all of it.. Now if they don't resign Bagpipes. Well heads better start rolling in the Astros front office (starting with the owner).

Bobfinn - I agree with you. Not being able to resign The Big Unit has really hurt the Stros. I can not blame them for rolling the dice and taking their chances with the Big Unit. They were going for it all that year. But we paid a high price in giving up two solid pitching prospects (I think F. Hlama was an 18 game winner last year with the Mariniers) and a solid second baseman. That trade took a huge toll on our Farm system from a pitching perspective. The Stros should have been able to beat the freaking Padres in the playoffs but that was the year Kevin Brown was just a little better than Big Unit. Remember we also traded away Brad Asmus, our catcher after that season. He is doing great for Detroit. I can't seem to remember who we picked up in that trade???

Getting back to Carl Everett. To me, I put it in the same category as trading away Kenny Lofton. The Astros got screwed in that trade too.

The Astros need to pull it together soon or they can forget about this season. The Cardinals look solid. I think the Jim Edmunds trade really solidfied that team...

I enjoy looking at posts like this to see if our trades actually worked out or not. Well it looks like this one did because even if we had kept Carl Everett we probably wouldn't have gone too far so we got a player for the future in Adam Everett. Now this trade actually looks like a smart one on the Astros part.

I love how they mention Berkman and (shivers) Ward as our prospects. Then they start to talk about us getinng A-Rod, trading Ausmus (I bet they're glad to have him back now), and unfortunately keeping Bagwell longer.

I'd have to say that it was a good trade because even though I don't think Adam is a great power or average hitter he seems to be good at laying down the bunts and great with the glove.

After Carl left, I felt compelled to believe in dinosaurs again.

Not pissed that he was traded. Just surprise about his attitude when he left to Eean town.

I don't remember him blowin' up in Houston. He seemed pretty quiet but still tough. Was b/c he like it here in Houston?

You know, if you look at the very meager traffic in the T.A.C. forum it kind of doesn't make sense to split them off from the regular BBS.

We're (mostly) Houstonians here anyway, why not just allow us to talk about our home teams in here?

I'm not pissed about the Astros trading Carl Everett.

I'm pissed that the Astros hired Jimy Williams instead of Tony Pena after they fired Larry Dierker.

Not hiring Tony Pena was one of the stupidest moves the Astros have made in years. I'm certain the Astros would have done great things with him as manager.

I'm still bitter they fired Larry Dierker in the first place.

LOL...

Carl Evrett played big in Boston for like one year, and then he had a bunch of fans. heck i bet he still have a bunch of fans here.

Then he stunk. Then contract year came up and suddenly he had more power than Barry Bonds (this was at Texas, I think). Then he stunk.
