    Wow...I can't believe I did what I just did.

So, I got the wife and the two kids all up in my ear about vacation and all that. Every other year, we like to go to the Dominican Republic where I happen to have a house about 2 minutes walk from the warm Caribbean water.

No, I am not rich. Houses like that cost about 3 dollars and change if you bought them 8 years ago.

Anyways, we wanted to do a last week in April going into two weeks in May. We usually do the 3 week thing when we go. But, there seems to have been a brain fart in Almu's head this time around. I lied to the Almu Crew.

I lied and said that it will be difficult for me to get away this time around because of...whatever reason I made up that I don't remember right now. Thank goodness that they were so understanding. Daddy got a hard job and at times, can't get away.

I booked the vacation today...and there is no ticket for the Almu on the trip. BUT ITS ALL A LIE!

Why did I do it? Because this particular trip clashes with my Rocket playoff schedule. Of course, they don't know that. But I DO! And as Chief Cheerleader and Bandwagon Officer of the Houston Rockets, how can I abandon my team when they need me the most?

Thats how much belief I have in the team this year. I don't have cable or satellite or internet or anything like that in the Dominican. Its 7 Spanish channels with endless reruns of Beverly Hills 90210, Baywatch or CSI really, really badly dubbed. Lets not discount 2 young daughters screaming everytime they see a new bug! That can get to you unless you are a Jedi-Master like I am and can block it out. Papi! Cucaracha! Over and over. Takes discipline.

So, I have my Rocket Red Colored glasses on. I will be alone for 3 weeks. I can stay up as late as I want. I can scream all I want. I can ****ing curse all I want. I can throw chairs out the window if I want. Nobody to bother me.

I am hoping that the Rocks don't let me down and get wiped out in the first round and I have a whole week to be miserable. And alone. Could be suicidal!! But I believe! Which is why I gave up the vacation to watch my favorite team ever whoop up on the hated JAZZ! Just like the good 'ole days when I was single and spent countless hours with my Rockets during the glory years. Ah...the good days. Stressed out for 4 years and getting two banners for it. Good trade. Remember pre-marriage/children, Clutch? All Rockets. All the time! :)

So, am I an idiot? Or a true fan? Cuz...while I typed this...I am having second thoughts. :(

You, sir, have made the correct call.

Any man who values a marriage, family, and career before the Rockets is not a true fan.

Cling to the things that matter. As much as i like the Rox, they are just a fun pasttime and can't even begin to compare to what you have with your family. Sorry to say this, but in 10 years you won't even remember who the Rox were playing. You will still feel guilty about not spending the time with your family though. There's still time. Just go with them. I don't even know you and I guarantee you you will be glad you did.

    Almu,

You are an addicted fan, but I must say, that is sad.

I would go to the beach, and bring Satalite with me and hook it up at the house.

Direct TV works down there.....it would be cheap cheap cheap to set up....

No way I would miss a family vacation, but no one doubts your fandom !!

    Just your priorities.

    In DR?

I remember watching them in 87-88 when I lived there. But the sports program that carried NBA games doesn't exist anymore.

They do have Directv available. But for some reason, its costs an arm and a leg.

Satellite is very expensive. Directv works. But that is a pain and won't have time to set up before the playoffs.

We can always have family vacation! The summer brings tons of opportunities and I will be in a better mood knowing a 3rd banner is going to be hung! :p

I can't look back. I missed the feeling I have now getting ready for all the stress!

Whoa, seriously tough choice man. But for me, family comes first, even if your favourite team is in the playoffs. The games will be on the internet, there for a very long time, but the time you could have with your faimly can't be relived.

Direct TV is cheap and EASY to set up....on your own.......dude....less than $100 bucks gets you up and running, and in under 2 hours of time.

A TRUE fan would have access to the Rockets anywhere they go, but not miss out on life's biggest pleasures.

I didn't know it would be cheap. Frosted Flakes is double the price there so I assume anything like Directv would be off the charts.

Now, I am feeling guilty! Jedi-Training! Don't forget the Jedi-Training!

Oh! By the way, you think the Ms. would let me indulge in Rocket games? Please. She will say all she needs to add is some dishes for her to wash and replace the birds with some big city noise and we could of stayed home!

Would never allow Directv come to think about it. So, now I feel better!

Keep up on the internet. Go to DR, enjoy. This is not the Rocket's year, in your heart you know it's true. Spurs, Mavs, and Suns will fight it out for the West. They are just better. The Rockets are a player or two short, maybe more. The quality of the role players must be improved. The team needs someone with "attitude." Too many "nice" guys that lack intensity in crunch time. I have enjoyed the season, and they may see the second round, maybe not. Beach, wind, sea, sand....go.

Direct TV comes with a DVR baby.....and all the games would be in HD...you could record them and watch them WHENEVER you like again and again.

Missing a family vacation is just sad.

This team is not going anywhere this year, maybe you just wanted to see the last few games your lover coaches.

You should go with your family and try to get a DirectTV system set up. Or maybe there's a bar in the area with a satellite system. You could probably slip them a hunski to guarantee it will be tuned to the Rockets during game times.

Hey, just in case you thought I was being sarcastic... I really do think you made the right call.

In many phases of life, we make sacrifices. We make sacrifices for our job, our family, our mortgage, whatever.

Every once in a while, I believe in selfishly doing something for yourself. Watching the Rockets playoffs should be something you do just for you.

No do it all.....set up Direct TV down in PR to selfishly watch the Rockets while selfishly being on vacation.
