The Texans have restructured the contract of Pro Bowl wide receiver Andre Johnson and extended him. The move frees up cap space and gets their best player committed for a long time.
Great news. I was a little scared that Andre would want out with all the losing and the fact they cut his mentor, Eric Moulds. Also he was nice enough to restructure his contract to create more room under salary cap. He is a great guy and a ultimate team player.

Wow, why would he sign an extension when we still have Carr?

The Texans have restructured the contract of receiver Andre Johnson to free up salary cap dollars to pursue free agents.
Terms of the deal were not disclosed, but it’s known that the Texans cleared a lot of money because Johnson had counted more than $7 million against the cap.
Johnson, who led the NFL with a career-high 103 catches, was voted to his second Pro Bowl and was named the league’s best receiver by the NFL Players Association. He had 1,147 yards and scored five touchdowns.
Johnson had two years remaining on the seven-year contract he signed when he was the third player selected in the 2003 draft. One year was voided when he reached certain incentive clauses.
The Texans need to free up as much money as possible because they’re planning to sign more free agents. Running back Ahman Green and receiver Ashley Lelie are coming to Houston tonight to meet with general manager Rick Smith. They’ll attend the Rockets-Spurs game at Toyota Center and tour Reliant Stadium on Sunday.
The Texans are looking for a receiver to play opposite Johnson. They waived Eric Moulds this week. Lelie was a first-round pick by the Broncos when Smith and coach Gary Kubiak worked for Denver.
The Texans learned today that Tampa Bay signed free agent quarterback Jeff Garcia and completed the trade with Denver for Jake Plummer.

Obviously the Texans told AJ that Carr won't be around much longer to get him to sign the extension.

Look at his 2004 season , seems to me that he can produce with more attempts going his way. He has good speed, his hands are questionable but what else do we have at the num 2 spot? Marthis? Walter? dd or dw (lol) please this guy can strech the field and free up Johnson .
Plus hes great in madden you can never have to many speed guys lol ;-P

don't wanna be a pessimist. but i wouldn't sign a deal to be the #2 receiver in Houston unless I knew a new QB were on the way. particularly if my strength was the long ball. from gaffney to moulds, the track record ain't real great.

I wouldn't say Moulds is his mentor. He was only there for a season and AJ was a Pro Bowler before he even came over.

No doubt. You see how bad his stats were in Atlanta with another lousy QB throwing him the ball.

Great news about Andre. I was a little concerned since he had the ability to opt-out at some point. Now, he's here long term and they can continue to try and build around him. My guess, too, is that they told him there would be a change at QB.

apparently Lelie thought the same thing and went elsewhere.
Thats fine with me though. But I still kind of wish they would have kept moulds around

who else is available?
are we stuck using a high draft pick on a WR now?
or will Walter be our 2?? i'm not thrilled with that prospect, frankly.

Why would he sign an extention when his team hasn't done anything to improve thier offesive ever. Test that man for drugs.

Because he just became one of the highest paid WR in the NFL. He also knew there was little chance of him leaving in a two years due to the franchise tag.

As much as I love 'Dre and the way he's conducted himself ever since he was drafted, I can't help but to feel sorry for the guy. He has the tools to be one of the greats but if he can't ever get good consistent throws to him every week.... :(

DOnt talk to bad about Carr he was able to get him the ball 100+ times this year. No matter who they bring in here they need to do somthing about the offesive line. We need a left tackle bad. Also if we were to make a trade for Plummer he would regret the decision he sign back with the Texans when his QB is throwing the ball to the wrong team.

Good to see us lock up AJ, hopefully the Texans can put the proper pieces around him. Look at what he's done w/ what I consider one of the worst passing games (if not the worst).

Did he throw the ball to himself last season in order to get to the Pro Bowl? :p

I'd personally love it, suspension regardless, but he's leaving the 49ers to go to a QB that can deliver him the ball as much as he's leaving for cash. He was pretty frustrated with Smith last year and sees himself as a dominate #1 receiver. Carr and Johnson would make it unlikely he'd sign with us.
