The Rockets have zero of a personnel problem. They HAVE the tools. They need to win this year. Olajuwon, Barkley, and even Pippen, aren't going to get any younger. Olajuwon has the thirst. Barkley CERTAINKY does. Pippen is used to it, and he came here for a reason: To WIN with Olajuwon and Barkley.
Price can move, pass, and shoot.
Dickerson is athletic and faster than greased lighting...and YOUNG.
Mobley is YOUNG, aggressive, and gutsy.
Bullard and Mack have size and can shoot.
Harrington has an uncommon combination of size, speed, and touch.
We have a mixture. We just need to optimize effort according to when and with whom they are playing.
Optimization Rotation (rope-a-dope)
C - Olajuwon (Moving)
PF - Barkley (Posting)
SF - Pippen (Moving Inside)
SG - Dickerson (Slashing and spotting up)
PG - Price (Spotting up and feeding)
Have Price bring up the ball Olajuwon and Dickerson are active. Pippen is moving around for feeds and feeding to Olajuwon and Barkley on the inside. Dickerson is cutting and dishing when he pulls the defense to him. Barkley is posting up and rebounding, but conserving energy.
C - Olajuwon (Posting up)
PF - Carr (Posting up)
SF - Bullard (Spotting up and crashing)
SG - Mack (Spotting up)
PG - Mobley (Slashing and feeding)
Barkley and Pippen to the bench for a nice rest. Olajuwon takes over, perhaps less active, posting up on the inside. Carr is also posting up and REBOUNDING. Bullard is hanging out at the arc, running in and crashing the boards when the shot goes up. Same for Mack. Mobley is bringing the ball up, creating, but conserving energy.
C - Harrington
PF - Barkley
SF - Pippen (Running, running, running)
SG - Dickerson
PG - Mobley
Suddenly, The Rockets are RUNNING. FULL TILT! Olajuwon rests. Their main cog goes out, and the pace goes up two notches! Harrington is running, cutting, and banging. Barkley comes in with his jets on, pushing the game forward, and eating up every missed shot. Pippen is the center of action Slashing to the baske and shooting or feeding to Harrington or Barkley moving. Dickerson, after cutting early and taking a blow, is running full tilt, breaking down the court, racing to the basket. Mobley turns it up a notch, looking for open shots and passes.
C - Harrington (Moving inside)
PF - Carr (Posting)
SF - Barkley (Moving inside and posting)
SG - Mack (Spotting up)
PG Price (Spotting up and feeding)
Harrington and Barkley relax a bit, sagging deeper inside. Carr also dominates inside, both shooting and rebounding. Price takes the game. He and Mack are spotting up thress again, when the defense is pulled in.
2nd half - Repeat
Bryce Drew can fill in wherever need. Playmaking, shooting ability, and YOUTH. Make he, Mobley, and Dickerson, the future with a championship under their belts.
Play who's feeling good and wanting the ball the last 3 minutes
Of course, you are always hitting the boards and playing defense. If you're tired, get out. The bodies are on the bench. We just need fire in them.
Now, win a third championship, and burn your name indelibly on history as the best OTHER team in the 90's, that won everything when Jordan wasn't around.
