I am sure that many of you here can relate.

Just caught a special on Bum Philipps which focused primarily on his time during the Steelers rivalry - and damn I had to reminiss a bit to all the good times ( and painful (ie 92) , for that matter ) of being a huge fan of the Oilers.

Perhaps this is why I am still having a very tough time accepting the Texans. And no, it is not that easy to forget once the Texans finally become competitve - we are actually talking about over 30 years of professional football in Houston which consisted of some very good seasons and damn good times.

Of course I'm glad that the NFL made it's way back and with a great owner for that matter; but, why do we throw all these memories aside and have to look at the freakin titans as being the former Oilers. Yes, I am rammbling a bit ( going back to the Bum video ) and clearly Bud was an ass.

Just miss the good ol' days. Definitely strange to see Moon retire his jersey in Tennessee and am now thinking - where will Bum or Earl Campbell be remembered for that matter? These guys were Houston, Texas first!!

OK, I grew up in the luv ya blue days, and haven't actually lived there in 10 years - but it's still freakin killing me! Still haven't found a team to fill that void. Here's to hoping that the Texans may eventually give me something to look forward to on Sunday!

Great memories there.
But the Oilers are gone.

Their connection - the strongest connection - is the city in which they called home. When they left that connection was severed. As the players I knew started leaving and walking off into the sunset, that helped kill the connection even more.

I have no problem with moving on to the new team that calls this city home.

I just wish they'd quit f**king up.

No clips of Ryan punching Gilbride. IIRC it was a Sunday night ESPN game vs. the Jets.

these clips make me remember.. and make me sad. I had put the Oilers out of my memory somewhat. Now I'm just missing them again.

I should remember the last couple of years here when they were terrible...those won't make me feel as bad

Man, I miss that team. The tradition (albeit somewhat rocky), the colors, the logo, the name. I wish we could have retained the name "Oilers", as Cleveland did with the Browns. The Texans name and logo is generic.

I'll take the whole heritage--the good, the bad, and the ugly, because it's MINE. Those were Houston's moments, Houston's disappointments, Houston's flashes of greatness. Butt Adams traded his "House of Pain" for a house of gaps-in-teeth.

The name, the colors, the icons, the moments, the history--all these belong to Houston, not to Nashville and not to Butt Adams.

Moon's jersey should be hanging at Reliant Freaking Center, not somewhere in the state where teeth go to die.

It will never be OK. I've moved on, but it's still not cool.

Go Texans.

I'm probably one of the younger Oilers fan (25). I can't imagine many younger with a memory. Vandermeer and Ware blow compared to Franklin and Phillips. Wasn't Giff also in the booth?

I was hoping they would bring Franklin back when we got the Texans. He was a great pbp guy. Glad he got a gig with UH, but I wish he would do the Texan games instead of Vandermeer.

And Bum.....how could anyone forget Bum....

FRANKLIN: You know, if they keep bringing the linebacker in from the weak side to blitz, Warren can call an audible at the line and maybe send Givens on a hot slant route across the middle. You think that may keep the Browns from blitzing so much, Bum?

BUM: Yep.....

[awkward silence]

FRANKLIN: OK....well it's 2nd and 10 at the 43....
