If Carr wasn't a good running QB, I'd almost be willing to bet money that our rushing totals would have less yards than carries.

We (Cowboys) played the Jags in week 1. Had the game under control at halftime, but they did come back and beat us. They have a strong team. Their receivers, are very big and talented, and their D line is best in the league.
24-13 Jags.

Since David Carr is too busy burying kittens in the ground up to their necks and running over them with lawnmowers instead of trying to develop "it", Jaguars 492, Texans 0.
Oh yeah, David Carr also stabs people with HIV-infected needles.

Classic example of building a team. 1st 2 draft by jack Stroud and henderson also drafted mathis and petereson. Team is always in the game despite a struggling offense. I also like Garrad for bacup who i thinkl should be a starter somewhere else.

More Pain. The Texans are hopeless, helpless, and really bad. Unfortunately, they know it. I do admire them for playing hard in the face of utter futility. For those of you holding out for the draft, given the Texan's knack of making horrible personnel decisions, I admire your optimism.

As much as I hate to admit it, we will probably lose this one. A chance to win very slim but we do accidentally have a rivalry with them and generally play them pretty tough save for last year (duh, absolute embarrassment). Before that, only other real blowout was 27-0 when Carr was injured in 2003 I think and Ragone had more problems than one could possibly count or would want to. In 2004, we swept them. Notable 20-6 fittingly on Battle Red Day when we escalated to high point ever in team history with a record of 4-3. First two years were a split. Maybe Petey can bring some magic with his return along with Kailee Wong.
With that said, unfortunately the Jags have improved and the Texans have regressed. I dont think highly of Wrong-wich as a QB but as long as their vaunted running game does their job all he has to do is NOT screw up!
Texans fight and probably give the ol college try but ... sorry come up short.
Until we find a running game, we're SCREWED! Jags 23, Texans 20. Hope I'm wrong but dont think I am.

I'll assume this was a joke based on the threats made, credible or not. Funny stuff
That said, they have done very well against Jax in the past. It's always a close game. Jax is certainly a better team, but the Texans seem to get up for them like no others. I think Lundy will break the 60 yd barrier. They've lost Mike Petersen for the season and that hurts. Lundy will hopefully take just enough pressure off of hte passing game so that Carr can get back to what he was doing prior to the Dallas nightmare.

Its a great nick name....he gets more rushing yards in the second half of games than in the first half hence the name "all day". We passed on Bush and everything happens for a reason. I pray we get a high enough pick to get him.

That said, I agree with you that if DC throws 2 ints *and* we fumble away 2 more possessions, the Texans will lose by an even bigger margin. I'm not expecting a W, just hoping they keep it close.

Own? For the record we are 4-4 vs J-Ville and last year they swept us. Hell, last year everyone beat us even peewee league teams. Haha! It just seemed like that. We do have a rivalry with them.

I loathe QB rating. Hopefully the Texans win and who cares about the pretty boy's stats.

If he throws 2 INT (a stat) and 0 TD (another stat) and totals less than 200 yds passing (yet another stat), I don't want to hear a peep out of you--because you don't "care about pretty boy's stats."

Where the AJ haters at? ;) ANDRE IS A BEAST!
One criticism: They need to abandon that "first down" chant they try to get the Reliant crowd to say after every first down. Its too unorganized, and just sounds like a bunch of indescript noise whenever they do it.
Either guide the fans on exactly how to say it (by flashing the exact cadence on the scoreboard... which they don't), or come up with something that's simpler to chant... like "texans fight". ;)

Wow! Way to open up the vertical game. I think AJ kinda goot away with a bit of offensive interference but the two Jag defenders should have made a better play on it it. I alos kinda worried that the Jag coach would throw the red flag since I couldn't see AJ's feet.

Gotta give credit to CBS on that one... didn't show/have a good replay of the catch, thus no challenge.

leftwich will have days like this, especially against the texans. sometimes he looks like the most accurate passer in the nfl, some games he looks like one of the worst, throwing balls with no touch, and at receivers' feet.

You can really see improvement in Mario. He's getting in the face of the QB routinely. You can actually see why he was the first overall pick. It looks like once he gets everything together, he could be a terror by the end of the season.

Let's not jump the gun here. Regardless of our record, you can tell this is an improved team and a team headed in the right direction. Our OL allowed one sack all day. Our defense looked like an NFL defense. We scored at will in the 2nd half. Carr looked polished and was making sound decisions. Although the stat sheet doesn't reflect it, Mario Williams was making an impact.
I really like the direction in which we are headed.

Great game. Still a little disappointed in the short yardage situations.
Carr looked good. AJ had another good game. Walter and Moulds made a few catches. Lundy had the best running game of any Texans this season.
Probably the best defensive game the Texans have had since that Pittsburgh game a few years back. Not one particular player had a stellar game, but the team as a whole stopped the Jags. I'm glad Faggins is back.

I actually thought his foot 'helped' him kick long field-goals. They way his shoe/boot was shaped, it looked like that was the case.
Elam's FG was helped by mile-high air in Denver.
Thus, taking all this into consideration... Bryant's FG today may have been the longest true FG by a kicker not in Denver, not in a dome, and not with a shoe that may have helped kick long FG's.

Actually it gave him a slight advantage. Dempsey was born with a club foot (no toes at all), and was given permission by the NFL to wear a shoe that was specifically made for his foot and ended in very blunt, almost completely squared off, toe. As a straight ahead kicker, he was thus able to strike a larger surface area of the ball, thereby driving the ball better than a kicker with a normal foot.
Science and football, a winning combination.

Good game against the schizo Jags. But the offense was deader than a doornail in the 3rd quarter. Kubiak must do something about that because it's getting old. The defense looked better than ever. This kind of win is hits the spot right after the complete catastrophe last week. Next week, I'm rooting for Vince Young to do great and the Texans to win the game.

Wasn't able to watch the game, but it sounds like our running defense and defense actually showed up today. Nice to hear Carr and AJ continue to roll. Despite last week Carr has played pretty damn well this season, and for the most part he's done it with absolutely no running game. At the beginning of the year I said we'd win five games, but six or seven might be possible with this semi-upset over the Jags. Even if we split with the Titans, the Browns, Raiders, Bills, and even the Jets are winnable games. Also if Indy is benching players for the playoffs already, we might actually have a chance against them as well (yeah I know I'm dreaming). Go Texans!!!

They played good enough to beat most teams, didn't make mistakes with the ball, didn't allow huge plays on defense, and took advantage of every opportunity (turnover) given to them.

You could at least try to make excuses for your perpetual negativity without making up lies.
I think the Coaching staff called a very good game too.
I mentioned it earlier, but I think it bares repeating...
When the Texans failed to convert a 3rd and short LATE in the game (we were already up by double digits), you could see that Kubiak was FURIOUS... this was probably something that the team worked on all week, they had looked pretty good at converting up till that point, and he didn't want anybody "relaxing" towards the end of the game and forgetting all the progress they had made.
Just like we fault coaches to not make adjustments after losses, coaches should also be mindful of keeping the pressure/making adjustments after WINS... that is something I believe this franchise has failed to do till now.
Too often, too many people were patting themselves on the back after big wins in previous years... whether it was Carr, the defense, or even the coahces/GM themselves. The lack of addressing the O-line, or lack of continuing to stock-pile depth/talent after the 7-9 year was just a microcosm of that whole mindset.
Kubiak is all about accountability (kinda like JVG)... he's benched Steve McKinney, and today Jason Babin (who had some injury problems, but still expected to play)... in favor of guys like Weary and Peak (who was great today). Lundy's play proves that you do get second chances in his system (and players are expected to make the most of it). And Mario/the defense has seemed to respond with consistent efforts after getting abolutely torched the first three weeks (last week was more of a case of turnovers, and lack of offense/running game that hampered the defense).
Its still good to see wins... but progress for this team is far more important. They have to gain confidence, and learn how to do some things WELL enough so that other teams will have to start adjusting for once.

I don't want the Texans organization to think the fans are ok that they are 2-4 and beat a Jacksonville team at home that played awful. I only remember 2 passes that went for more than 10 yards BEFORE YAC, the rollout to Walker and the TD to AJ. other than that, it was 5 yard slants and dumpoffs. i guess what i'm trying to say is I would like to see more timing patterns and curls being thrown by Carr.

I want the long bomb too, but there are some reasons why Carr didn't throw it.
If you get a chance to watch the game again, check out the Jags' coverage. THey knew we were going "pass" the entire game, and put TWO safeties back in the area. When you replay Carr's one interception called back for an illegal hands to the face penalty, you can see the corner was on AJ and so was the FS. The ONE touchdown to AJ was also into double coverage. What am I saying with all this? Koubiak may have seen the coverage, and may have instructed DC to keep dumping it short, since the corners were expecting pass all the time and giving a big cushion. The running game helped, too.

Over the years, Carr most often goes off the rails when he tries to hit home runs. Under Capers, he repeatedly tried to make hero plays that backfired. Kubiak is forcing him to play better percentages. It's the right thing to do, especially if we're nursing a lead or holding on in a close game.

The running game helped, too.
cool, i guess i wasn't as observant of hte game as you. i was starting to worry that he'd be regressing to his old self after the Cowboy's game. i guess it just gave me the impression that he was afraid to look downfield, especially when i thought the line was doing a good job of protecting him.

I don't want the Texans organization to think the fans are ok that they are 2-4 and beat a Jacksonville team at home that played awful. The Texans organization has screwed us all as fans, and 1 win doesn't cure anything with me. The team is still 2-4, so no, i'm not happy. I support the team, win or lose, but forgive me that i'm not jumping for joy over a 2-4 football team.

Enjoy the moment. It hasn't happened very often. The defensive side of this game was encouraging.

That's ok...I went to the game yesterday and let everyone around me know that I AM happy with this football team. Even when they lose, I am happy that we HAVE a football team.
But, then again you may have a point. In fact, maybe the Texans organization is this corporate machine that's sole intent is to bleed Houston and its good citizens dry of all their money and emotion...only to pick up and leave after say, 10 years of raking us all over the coals. It could be a conspiracy, I tell you. YES! THEY ARE SCREWING US! We should file a class action suit against them for this! Those bastards drafted Jason Babin for Christ's sakes! :D
Priceless sarcasm. :D

compucomp, I want the long bomb too, but there are some reasons why Carr didn't throw it.

Yes, they're intentionally underthrowing on deep balls to take advantage of AJ's athleticism and height. As much as I hate to admit it, you take what the defense gives you or else you suffer bad consequences (mostly INT's).
Some more success like this game will force defenses to adjust their game plan trying to give them a better opportunity to win but also potentially opening up opportunities downfield for us.
A continued, consistent running game will help stretch out the defenses and force the safeties to play more honest and cheat less.

dude, no one is so delusional to think we've actually turned the corner. it was a freakin' win against a team that is clearly better than us. we're just enjoying the moment. we get that the Texans screwed you out of Reggie Bush. go cry a river somewhere else about it.
no one thinks all of our problems have been solved and no one thinks we're gonna have a winning season this year. we just want them to compete and excuse for enjoying the times when we do.
He's just mad because he wants to hype up Reggie and smear it in our and the organizations faces. What he doesnt get is, at this moment Reggie is no better than Eric Metcalf PERIOD. He wants us to believe that Reggie will be the next Barry Sanders. jgreen91, this just in, Bush may be talented but right now he could not even hold Barry's jockstrap. Bush is NOT an every down back, Barry WAS. Bush has a good OL, Barry rarely EVER had a good OL. Furthermore, Barry was simply spectacular. He improvised his ass off. Every play he was a threat to go the distance to the endzone. Barry invented moves they have yet to put in the dictionary because simple words dont do it justice.
So by all means, do keep playing both sides of the fence as you will. We know which side of the fence you REALLY stand on. You're not fooling anyone here.
I mean Mario AGAIN does good. 1 sack (regardless of HOW he got it. He GOT it! Got it?), 1 fumble recovery and several hurries forcing underthrows or overthrows.
You see I may be critical when it calls for it, such as: after the Deadskin game but, I also will give credit where credit is due and the fact of the matter is Mario is starting to catch on and when his confidence on the field equals his talent and abilities LOOK OUT because IMO we are already seeing glimpses of him dominating and taking over games.
BTW, without him, the Texans dont beat the Fins. His sacks forced a 3 and out which led to a further stretching of the lead. He tipped away the 2 pt conversion that potentially would've tied the game up and who knows after that. Just wanted to add those facts about our first round bust.
Barry Sanders.
...if RB actually does become truly great, it will look more like Marshall Faulk than Barry Sanders.
...if RB actually does become truly great, it will look more like Marshall Faulk than Barry Sanders.
And even then, you have to see what Marshall Faulk had on his team to really showcase his skills: MVP QB, two all-pro WR's, HOF-calibur left tackle, an offensive innovater as a coach.
That made Faulk an MVP calibur player from 1999 - first half of 2002. 3.5 years... which is pretty valuable... but its still merely 3.5 years.

That was probably one of the best all around games in the 5 years of Texans football.
No, jgreen, I am not delusional. We need to see it again next week. Yes, Leftwich should have been pulled and played terrible. Yes, they dropped passes. Yes, they have some key defensive players missing. However, the Texans did something they've had trouble doing as long as they've been around. They actually took advantage of the other team's mistakes. 14 points on 2 turnovers is fantastic. They turn the ball over and you have to make them pay. The Texans did just that. In the 3rd quarter, they didn't panic and start the whole "here we go again" s***. This was simply a very well played football game.
If you can't enjoy this, why do you even pay attention?
As encouraged as I was by the running, I want to see them execute at least reasonably well against a team with a solid D-Line--the Jags' D-Line was pretty banged up Sunday.

EVERY WIN is a SUPER BOWL win. What is it for you, "just a win"? The TEXANS scored 27 and kep LEFTWICH from scoring 27 on them. That's not the TEXANS winning it fair and square? Tell me, man, what can the TEXANS do to make YOU happy?
Trade for Bush so he won't have to jock him from afar....

So you're saying no wins will make you feel good? Because if we win a game, that means we played better than the other team. So they didn't play up to par, meaning the win still leaves you unhappy.
So....doesn't every team then play aweful in 90% of their losses? Sooooo....wouldn't thatmake EVERY team in the NFL winning games only because the other team played aweful?

You're getting jumped on because you've lost all credibility prior to this point (and rightfully so). However, beneath that biased and hate-fueled post does lurk a decent point (I think). So, allow me to take a stab at interpreting your post, and please tell me if I'm right or wrong (everyone else keep in mind this isn't my belief):
"We, as Texans fans, should not be content with a 2-4 record. It's great that the team is improving, and as a Texans fan, I sincerely hope it continues. However, in order to pressure the team to consistently perform at a high level, we should be more demanding of the team and organization in general. Any Texans win is a definite cause for celebration, but there is an inherent danger in celebrating minor victories as major ones, as doing so may anchor our future expectations too low. And if the expectation bar is set too low, we run the risk of becoming satisfied with mere mediocrity, like fans of the Clippers and Bengals in the 90's. Thus, we must be harsh even in victory to ensure championship-caliber performance."
Hey, I'm trying here...
