Hey why mess with the karma, these boys are on a roll!
Sweep! Sweep! Sweep!
Boy, Kruky on ESPN baseball tonite was dogging the sh*t out of the Crapholes. He said the way the Cards are hitting, Capuano and Sheets dont even need to bring their A game becaue the Cards are choking SO hard.
Dont look now but the pundits are coming around giving us maybe just a little respect. Kruky also said "Garner is managing his (ass off) proverbially speaking."
Man, I honestly cannot believe this! We pull this off I'm convinced it really doesnt matter how we do til Aug/Sept though I would like one semi-normal season. Call me crazy but a little less drama would not be a bad thing. :D
Of course, if Lane and Ensberg's numbers are any where near what they were last year, we would clinched a couple of weeks ago. But, hey ...
the Stros love the Stage.

he still qualifies as a rookie. he didn't have enough AB's last year for it to be considered a rookie season.

Man, Buck the Fraves! :D :D :D And you can quote me on that ...
Game 1: Yawn ...Rocket will b*tch slap them.
Game 2: Could be a little tougher but Sampson has shown resolve to get it done.
Game 3: We need Handy Andy's A game vs Smoltzie ... we win anyway 3-1.
By tomorrow nite, Larasshole will be needing to check into the psyche ward so he can talk and play with the bunny rabbits.
Bottom line, Cards dont believe, the Stros and their fans do ... thats why we are going to the playoffs and they will spend the offseason in the corner sucking their thumb, laughing at their own uselessness. :D :p

all the cards can do is gain 1/2 game on the 'stros on Monday vs. the Giants...if we're up 1 1/2 games, the best they can do is pull to being 1 game out...so the game would be unneccesary.

we can pull through. but lets not think its a given. and even if we win out we still need milwakee or san fran to win one for us. and we'd still hafta beat the cardinals. and granted they're losing...but if they get to the one game to decide who goes on...they've probably won a couple of games and have some of their confidence back.
keep rooting. but lets not take anything for granted. and regardless of what happens...most of us can look back and realize that this team kept playing even when we gave up.

Smoltz is 15-13 against the Stros in his career.
Outside of Biggio (.260, 104 ABs) & Ausmus (.217, 23 ABs), nobody on the Stros has faced him more than 6 times.

Anyone notice the Runs Scored vs. Runs Allowed the Braves have this year (838 vs. 798). Strange for a Braves team to be +40 in runs for a season and not make it to .500.
These definitely are not the Pirates we are playing. I think the cards will go 2-2 in the next 4 which would mean we could take the division outright with a sweep or take it to a playoff game with 2 out of 3. That is definitely doable, but its going to be a tough tough series. I just hope we can do something early against the lefty tonight so Andy can settle in a little easier.

Would it be a good idea to bump up Pettitte for Saturday and have Roy O. pitch on Sunday (yes I know its 2 days rest but treat it like a game 7). Unless the Cards lose tonight & tomorrow.

A good amount of that run differential was just accumulated this past week, with the 12-0, and 13-1 wins over the Mets. That's 24 runs... minus 3 from the loss last night... = 21 runs difference based on the Mets series alone.
They're no Pirates... but they're no mid 90's Braves either.

Not really. We can win "bullpen" games... and by bumping both guys up on short rest, you jeopardize your chances in BOTH games, instead of being unsure about just the one game on Saturday, as it currently stands.

Backe had tommy john surgery. He's not coming back this year and even next year is a big question mark.
Also, Lidge has been pretty decent lately. He's been a good setup guy and is slowly figuring it out. No one on the ballclub has abandoned him yet and people still have faith in him. I cringe when I see him but the pains are becoming less frequent. He'll be fine.

I'm glad we're playing Cox,Jones,Jones, and the rest of those primadonnas. There's a certain poetic justice in it.
Time to bust out the broom....This train is rolling all the way to the World Series!
How is Greg Lucas THAT underinformed:
"But they (the Braves) do have something to play for... there are 3 games left in the season, and they're 3 games under .500... they'd like to get there to avoid the losing record." (as he signs off).
Problem is... the Braves have 82 losses, not 81.
You'd think for a guy who's job is simply to report on whatever the hell he wants to, he'd have a little bit more sense when he simply has to report on facts that are printed out on every news source available.

At least he threw a lot of pitches that inning so we might be able to get Lamb/Huff in the game earlier than usual against a left handed starter
Very unimpressive first.I don't think Garner was patient enough with this kid on the mound.
You think Garner tells them what to do on every single swing? Maybe 3-0 counts... but even then, Garner normally lets the players decide or use their own discretion.
Lane connected on a strike... Ensberg connected on a strike... Lance drove a strike nearly out of the yard.
Not a good 0-2 pitch by the Rocket.

Dr.Strangelove
09-29-2006, 06:21 PM
No.What I'm talking about is sending WT when this guy is high in the zone.
Of course they use their own discretion at the plate most of the time. But you don't need to be swinging at high fastballs when this kid hasn't found the zone. The ump is not giving him that high strike.
Dr.Strangelove
09-29-2006, 06:22 PM
You send WT and end up having to protect him at that point in the count.I don't like it.
I don't understand why Lamb isn't starting? Wasn't he pretty hot when he did start during this winning streak?
Lamb isn't that great vs. lefty pitching, whereas Ensberg has one of the better OBP on the team against lefty pitching. Garner's been consistent over the entire winning streak on who plays against lefties and righties.
He also brings in Lamb and Huff as soon as the lefty is out of there, and its kinda cool how the pinch hitters come at you in waves in those middle innings.
Dr.Strangelove
09-29-2006, 06:25 PM
Lamb isn't going against a lefty.
You send WT and end up having to protect him at that point in the count.I don't like it.
I understand now. I agree that it sucks when the batter decides to "protect" a guy who would have stolen the base, but I'm totally for stealing with Willy.
The guy doesn't get on base that often... you have to take advantage of his strengths when he does get on base.
If the Braves are treating this like a playoff game, then so are their fans.... can't be more than 20,000 there right now.

I DO like the idea of giving Morgan protection in the 2 hole, but ideally I would like to see Adam hit there like he did when Mr.$$$$$$ was an Astro.Everett can handle the bat(and is a good baserunner) and will see many fastballs out of the 2 hole. Before Everett got hurt Beltran did a great job of helping us getting the most of Everett.

Everett only batted their when 1M was in charge... and even then, he was basically there to sacrafice bunt. Once Garner came here, the team didn't start taking off until Mr. $$$$$$$ started batting 2nd, Bagwell 3rd, Berkman 4th, and Kent 5th.
Morgan's batting #2, not necessarily to give him protection, but because he's pretty good at getting on base against lefties... and the big bats get a chance to drive him in.

I think the biggest indicator that he just hasn't been comfortable at the plate this season is that he keeps changing his stance. That and he gets a little too selective...almost like either A) he's afraid to hit it or B) he's just outhinkin himself.
A pitcher's duel seems appropriate.

Chipper also = one of the most arrogant guys I've ever seen. He's a great player, but he STRUTS like a peacock.
I remember back in the 2004 playoffs, when ESPN was making such a huge deal of interviewing his dad at MMP... and trying to coax him out of an awful slump.
That whole thing was creating a story out of nothing... a non-story... a waste of time (especially since there were a few more compelling things they could have focused on: 36-10, Clemens, the beee noise, Jeff Kent's porn-stache, Phil Garner's wife... etc. etc. etc.)
