View Full Version : Can the Astros REALLY do this?

well it would be the miracle to end all miracles, but if there was ever a team to pull off something totally ridiculous like this it would be these Astros.

I do, but do you guys legitimately think we can do this? Go Stros!!!!!!

I think the Astros would be ahead if they had a decent manager. The team's good enough to win and still may make the playoffs despite him.

Dude, I was bein completely sarcastic. I'm trying to rail on them, because everytime we think they are gonna turn it around, they fail. And as soon as we gave up on them, boom, there they go 7 of 8, 6 in a row.

CAN they?? of course they CAN!!! they just made up 6 games in 6 days. they have now have 6 games to make up 3 games. so yeah..they CAN do it.

but it's not just about them. it's about the cardinals continuing their suckitude. my questions about this more have to do with them than the astros.

but this is a lot of fun watching these games down the stretch!!! just incredible!

no kidding...that starts to weigh on them big time. gripping every at bat...every pitch...waiting for something bad to happen, because nothing's going right. one win stops that, though...you're as good as your next day's starting pitcher. unfortunately they have carpenter on the mound tonight.

if the cardinals lose tonight, it's HUGE. carpenter is really they're only real starter left....if he loses this game, i think it will have a big effect on a team already struggling.

by the way..historically, this would be THE comeback. the phils previously blew a 6.5 game lead to the cards with 12 to play...

but this was a 8.5 game lead with 13 to play.

I'm on the edge of my seat. They would make history, for sure. Someone in baseball has to do what they're trying to do. It's exceedingly rare, and a near impossible task, but why can't it be the Astros?

The stros are hot and the cards are cold, it could most definitely happen.

Make the playoffs? proably

Make the World Series? don't know about that one.

Win one World Series game? If they made it this far then yes they can win at least one game.

Win the World Series? Bet the house they don't

I completely agree with you. Tonight is the key because Carpenter is their only pitcher , and we can't overlook the fact that the Astros are facing the Pirates. They could surprise us maybe overlooking them. And also, if you could pick our fourth starter, who would it be: Sampson, Hirsh, Albers, or Wandy(jk... ;) ?

I'll say it again this will be a "miracle" on par with the 1980 sports miracle...for them to be only 2.5 games back is a joke...To do it and become champions is incredulous...Unbelieveable!

hatemavs4life
09-26-2006, 06:54 PM
Should the Stros do the impossible which is what they have specialized the previous 2 years at doing, then the only greater sports victory PERIOD would be the "miracle on ice" USA 1980 olympics beating the Ruskies.

A week ago, this was unthinkable but, if there is any team that can specialize in the mission impossible scenarios it would be these confoundable Astros! :p

I love this team but they drive me crazy at times. :D

I did call them "dead team walking" a few weeks back, but that team had no pulse. This team ever since Big Puma's blast in the initial game vs the Cards, has really started taking off.

They're showing to be harder to kill off than Rasputin. :D

Yeah, why not? We're flawed but we've been through this before the last 2 years so, they obviously know how to get it done!

Let's say finish in a tie with playoff game on Tues to decide the division! Striate every last ounce of misery out of STL we can possibly muster. :p

Not worried about The Pirates. I am more concerned about Atlanta. While they have has a stinker of a season, you know they'd love to get back at us for taking them out the last 2 years. Especially Smoltz. He pretty much has owned us in the past. Guess we will have to wait and see!

Good. Since getting blow'd up real good by the Reds in his 3rd start:

7IP, 1ER, PITT
6, 1, NYM
6, 2, MILW
6, 2, PHI
4.2, 4, STL (Bork gave up 2 of Hirsh's runs after he left, iirc)

29.2 IP, 23H, 10BB, 17K, 3.03 ERA

Last start looks not too good.

4.2 IP/5 H/4 ER/2 BB/2 K

Has some problems of the location. (gave up 10 HR in 41.2 IP)

The interesting thing is .299 vs right but .191 vs left.

Magic numbers are only for teams that are in first place, which the astros could hopefully find themselves in on Friday morning.

You don't have to be in first place to have a magic number. Being in first place just allows you to control your magic number (i.e. magic number < games left to play).
