Season Premiere to Feature Stand-Up Superstar Dane Cook and Music from The Killers

NEW YORK – September 20, 2006 – "Saturday Night Live" continues its extraordinary run and returns for its 32nd season on September 30 (NBC, 11:30 p.m. – 1:00 a.m. ET).

The season premiere will be hosted by red-hot standup comedian Dane Cook, who returns for his second hosting stint. An inventive and electric performer, Cook will soon be seen starring opposite Jessica Simpson in the comedy "Employee of the Month." The comedian has built an impressive following through relentless touring (as chronicled on HBO's "Tourgasm" and standup special "Vicious Circle" and his pervasive online presence on both his own website (danecook.com) and MySpace.com (where he has over one million "friends.") Cook continues to enjoy the success of his certified platinum comedy album "Retaliation," which debuted at No. 4 on the Billboard 200, making him the highest-charting comedian in 25 years. Future projects for Cook include the features "Dan in Real Life" with Steve Carell and "Good Luck Chuck" opposite Jessica Alba.

Also returning to "SNL" are The Killers, performing from their eagerly awaited sophomore release "Sam's Town." The new album is the follow-up to the band's five million-selling debut "Hot Fuss," which garnered four hit singles and seven Grammy nominations. Named "Band of the Year" by Spin magazine in 2004, the Killers' record was the longest-running rock record to remain in the Top 50 for the same year and their new single "When You Were Young" is already Top Five at alternative radio and one of the most played videos on MTV.

Returning to the SNL repertory cast are Fred Armisen, Will Forte, Bill Hader, Darrell Hammond, Seth Meyers, Amy Poehler, Maya Rudolph, Andy Samberg, Jason Sudeikis, Kenan Thompson and Kristen Wiig.

Amy Poehler will return to the "Weekend Update" desk with a new partner to be announced later. Also returning, Seth Meyers returns for his second season as head writer, sharing the position with Emmy winners Andrew Steele and Paula Pell.

Another new addition to the show is director Don Roy King. The Emmy Award-winning live television veteran takes the helm of "SNL "with a wide range of credits running the gamut, from 14 years at CBS' "The Early Show," six years at "Good Morning America" and the first four live "Survivor" finales to "The Mike Douglas Show" and numerous Broadway productions for television.

"Saturday Night Live," which premiered on October 11, 1975, is from SNL Studios in association with Broadway Video. The creator and executive producer is Lorne Michaels. Steve Higgins produces. Marci Klein and Mike Shoemaker are producers. Head writers are Seth Meyers, Paula Pell and Andrew Steele. Don Roy King directs.

Tina Faye seems to be gone too. I thought Amy Poeler and Tina Faye were pretty good together doing the Weekend Update.

Haratio was just terrible. I couldn't stand him.

Faye has a new show called 30 Rock on NBC. I'm sure that's why she's gone.

He had to know he was going, by the end of last season, he was showing up on the news just to say that was the only skit he was in.

Yeah, he was the last of the "pretend to break character and laugh to get cheap laughs" crew. That really annoyed me. I liked his Elton John schtick, but that was really all he was good for.

I really liked Chris Parnell though. I think he was severely under-used and never really got a chance.

I agree, he was a poor mans Phil Hartman.. I think it was Horatios time to go, but I would have liked to see Darrell Hammond go in place of Chris..

Horation Saenz will either be dead or will be a casino greeter within the next five years. He is completely talent-less.

Dane Cook as the season premiere guest host? SNL is completely in the gutter.

Not only is SNL not worth watching any more, it isn't even worth TIVO-ing.

SNL has zero talent on that show. that's why it sucks so bad. i used to like SNL but it just comes off as snobbish "humor" sometimes and not as much comedy. i like MadTV more now. i think they also have funnier people on MadTV, but that's just my opinion.

People have been saying this since the Bill Murray years... and yet the show still goes on and discovers diamonds in the rough.

This isn't like sports, where you know before-hand whether or not a player is going to be decent... these stars come out of nowhere, and SNL still continues to produce household names every decade.

After Murray, Akroyd, Radner, and Chase left... people said the show was dead.

Then, Eddie Murphy, Brad Hall, and Julia Louis-Dreyfuss came on the scene... the show was back. When they left, SNL was almost cancelled... basically on life support, minus the one year where Ebersol bought all the talent (Billy Crystal, Martin Short, etc.).

Then, Dana Carvey, Phill Hartman, and Jon Lovitz showed up... later joined by Mike Myers and Kevin Nealon. As they started leaving one by one, Adam Sandler, Chris Rock, David Spade, Chris Farley, and Rob Schneider carried SNL to some of their most popular years.

After they left, everybody jumped off the bandwagon (esp. after Mad TV started)... and yet they managed to develop Will Ferell, Chris Kataan... and later Jimmy Fallon, Amy Poheler, and Maya Rudolph.

Now, it seems like rocky times... but I'm sure there will be yet another big star produced from SNL roots... you just don't know who it is yet.

jimmy fallon is the single worst cast member in the history of the show. if you cant keep a straight face and not blow character in pretty much every skit you are in, you have no buisness being there.

his performance in the mightly cowbell skit was the only blight in what is arguably the greatest snl moment of all time. for that alone he should have been sent to guantanamo.

horatio did the same thing, but i found myself liking him more the last couple years. i didnt really care for him as the center of the skit, but he was funny as a utility type guy - used sparingly. the big drunk girl is pretty funny. i thought he was popular - very suprised he was let go. who will be the "fat guy" now? - now that i think about it, this was a cost-cutting move - keenan thompson is THE black guy and THE fat guy. 2 for 1 - very smart move loren!

I really liked Chris Parnell though. I think he was severely under-used and never really got a chance.

me too - he was one of my favorites on there. its all politics yo!
peace out c-dog!

Chris Parnell schtick got old fast, what this another ridiculious rap song, he might as well just have done a bunch of "white people are different then black people" jokes. Everyone who works on SNL is pretty lucky, all they have to do is turn out one funny thing every 2-3 show and everyone slurpps it up like free kool-aid. With cable TV looking to fill so many timeslots with original programing anyone with a ounce of talent is quickly given their own show without having to resort to sharing facetime on a show who's premise completely died somewhere around '94.

Yup, every single year people say SNL sucks. Ever since Eddie Murphy left, I've been hearing people say it. Yet SNL keeps chugging along pumping out stars after stars.

The thing about SNL is there might only be 1 or 2 good skits ...and the rest of the show is garbage. It's ALWAYS been like that ...even in the Eddie Murphy days. But when SNL does something good, it is really really good.

For example, the semi-recent Debbie Downer skit. That was a classic.

So SNL is like your favorite sports team. There are some highs and many lows.

I just tivo it and FF through most of it.

They weren't exactly cut. SAnz, and Fey left to work on 30 Rock. I am not sure about Parnell, but I thought he was funny. I liked Horatio as well.

Bill Hayder and Samberg are both funny as well. Though even with those people I like, good skits seemed to be the exception rather than the rule.

Where did you hear that? I don't think he is a writer or actor on the show. His "IMDb" would say something... Besides, this is what he said a few weeks ago...

"I haven't been approached with anything that's led me to believe I won't be back," Sanz told the Chicago Sun-Times less than a month ago. "I definitely enjoy the job and would like to stick with it."

I don't think it is the cast being degraded so much as the fact that society has become so much more used to irony/satire/parody over the past few years that their thunder is stolen.

MAD Magazine used to be a big deal, til the Simpsons, South Park, Family Guy came along.

Same with SNL - its brand of humor was unique.....until it wasn't anymore.

For the record, I thought Horatio Saenz sucked ass.

I enjoyed Horatio. Losing TF is a giant blow...er...calm down DonnyMost... ;)

SNL always cycles, and sometimes they don't recognize the talent they have. Julia Louis Dreyfuss was not on the 'inside' so never got skits... Chris Rock, even Eddie Murphy were underutilized (does anyone even remember Ben Stiller on SNL?)

I think I'm in the minority here but I actually liked Horatio Sanz. He pretty much always played the same character, fat clueless lout, but it often worked. I particularly liked his Khalid Sheikh Muhammed immitation which I thought was a great spin on the mugshot of him.

I liked Horatio overall, but it's his time to go. Finesse was barely on there, but i don't think it was a travestly like with Chris Rock. Chris Parnell has been pretty steady in my opinion and I think they should have kept him. He was fired once before and came right back in the same season, so it's no surprise that with having to make a cut because of budget reasons, Michaels would have Parnes in his sights.
