There used to be a restaurant at the current location of the Chili's restaurant located at 11400 East Frwy (I-10) in Jacinto City (77029). I used to eat there as a kid with my family all the time. I seem to remember the name of the restaurant starting with a "K" but I could be wrong. I'm sure there were more restaurants than just this one throughout the city of Houston. The food and decor reminds me a lot of the way Cracker Barrel is now-a-days.
Can anyone help me out here? This is killing me....
This place and Grandy's are two restaurants that I miss here in Houston. I looked on Grandy's website a couple minutes ago and noticed that they have a restaurant in Victoria. Thinking about taking a little road trip on Sunday and eating me some Grandy's. Aaahhh, the memories....

I used to work at Casa Ole and they cooked just about everything with lard as well. I actually thought that was common practice?

Made the trip down to Victoria to eat at the Grandy's. Boy, it was really worth it. If you guys get a chance go and you miss the food, go eat there...it's great.

I don't understand what the deal with Grandy's is. There are still quite a few around that seem to do good business, but they are letting their buildings just go to hell. In my hometown of Texarkana, everyone loves Grandy's, but I hate going there because it's so freakin' nasty on the inside. Their fried chicken, rolls, okra, mashed potatoes are all great....mmmmmm

SirCharlesFan,
You are from Texarkana?
Do you know anything about that James Blair Macer scam? The OSI hosting deal, where he tried to scam the city council of Texarkana and it turned out he was a 24 year old kid living in his parents house in New Boston?

yea, its PoFolks, used to go there all the time. U live in the east side? I'm over here in North Shore for the past 20+ years.
I believe they still have PoFolks in the eastern US, I swore I saw a few billboards on my road trip to Ft Lauderdale 2 years ago.

SirCharlesFan,

Yeah, I'm from Texarkana, but I haven't lived there permanently since I graduated high school. I've spent the majority of my time in Central & Northwest Arkansas since the summer of 2002. My parents still live in the area and I keep up with things through the local paper. I remember reading a ton of crap about that whole deal in the Texarkana Gazette. Apparently, a lot of people were really excited about it and just took the kid at face value thinking he was legit and was going to turn Texarkana into the next Silicon Valley. The Gazette really didn't pick up the story, believing it was a scam from the get go, until things really started falling apart for the kid. IIRC, I think the guy ended up twisting it around to being persecuted because he was a Christian when everyone found out he was a fraud. Not really sure, but look through the archives at www.texarkanagazette.com and you'll find out some more info. Why did you ask me about it?

I was shocked that there are no Grandy's in Houston when I moved here. The one in Victoria is pretty good, though I haven't eaten there in a few years.
In fact, looking at the website, what happened to the Grandy's in Austin, off of Cameron Road? I used to live a block from there, and they had the best breakfast biscuits on the planet. Wow. Times change.
