View Full Version : Did anyone see the A-Rod slide into second last night?

So he is sliding into second I think trying to stretch out a single into a double. The throw beats him to the bag by a mile. He is sliding with his left hand extended like most base runners do to reach for the bag. The second baseman puts the ball down to tag his left hand. A-Rod keeps it out until the last second and then yanks it back and reaches around with his right hand. That 2nd baseman looked like a fool.
I need to find a video of it.
If you see it let me know about it.

...which is why players are taught from little league onward to not lunge with the tag.

Chris Burke did that to AJ Pierzynski at home plate during game 2 of last year's World Series to tie the game...before Lidge blew it.
Why can't players just bowl over 2nd and 3rd basemen like they do catchers? That would be awesome.

always loved this idea... or the idea or starting to slide, or motioning to slide, and then leaping up over the top of the catcher..

My buddy (a cardinal fan) SWEARS to me that Ozzie Smith actually did this once. Can anyone confirm? Not sure if I believe it or not.
As far as A-Rod's slide, I used to do that all the time in pee-wee league. Of course, it was between 1st and 2nd and about 8 feet short of the bag. :D

I know this is a great play and all, but does anyone else think he did that on accident?
It really looks to me like a crappy slide that he fell short on accident, then lunged with his right hand to make it to the bag.
Great play either way, but it sure looks like a goof that he turned into a great play.
