The woman from the Blood Bank called earlier to remind me that I could donate anytime after Friday. This donation should be my 4th gallon since I started giving when I was 17. How many of y'all donate?

Zero.

Needles make me faint, so I have to find other ways to contribute to society.

I've donated about 6 pints of blood, then once I donated plasma, and I forgot how much of that they stole from me. That **** was ****ed up cause I had baseball practice 2 hours later. Lunch + juice + cookies = enough energy to get out to the field...I felt like I was gonna die when I realized we had to run laps around the field. Hah.

I've done plasma about 5 times, it takes a while to do. The first time I did it they didn't put enough fluid back in and it messed me up that day. It was July, I got in my truck at around 6 in the evening and turned my heater on to stay warm.

Yeah, it was crazy. I think the only reason I did that rather than the regular blood donation was because some friends of mine were like "wah wah we don't like needles" and I was egging them on to donate blood, that it was no sweat, and I've done it before.

So they conned me into donating plasma somehow. One chick didn't donate anyway...stupid ho.

I gave 5 pints one year. For my life I bet I have somewhere between 15-20 pints. I should go home and count the shirts :)

So they decline the donations from tattooed dudes?

no, they decline you if you've gotten one within the last year.

I keep stepping foot into blacklisted countries in South Asia so I doubt I'll ever get to donate blood anytime soon.

I used to donate all the time (O- type), but the second to the last time, the person messed me up - they kept missing and just jacking me up and I have good veins so there should have been no reason for that. I hurt for 3+ months and couldn't extend or bend my arm without great pain. After a year or 2, they talked me into going back (the last time) and the did the same thing to the other arm. That was almost 20 year ago.

Sorry, but it will take a great crisis to get me back.

The last couples times I did it, they screwed up really badly. The worst was when they messed up in my left arm. The needle kept getting clogged, so they started twisting it to break up the blood clots or something. Finally, it got clogged completely, and they told me the amount was insufficient to use and would be discarded, unless... they drew from my right arm as well.

So, I let them, and they had the same problem. Twisted the needle again to get the blood to flow, but finally there was enough. I think I went to bed about 6 hours earlier than usual that night.

The next day I had huge bruises running down my arms. There was probably more blood in those bruises than in the test tubes they collected.

I have a slight issue with needles going into that particular part of my body... whenever I've had IV's for surgery or whatever, I've taken them in the hand for the same reason.

So no, I don't... but I volunteer on the ambulance, so I think I contribute in other ways to the same general area of need

I did until I had a melanoma removed from my back in 2001. Then they said you have to wait 5 years. Guess what? It has been 5 years since I was first diagnosed with skin cancer (Clarke's Level II) and had it removed. I didn't really think about it until I saw the title of this thread.

I think I'll start donating blood again. :)

I tried when I first turned seventeen, and was rejected. Apparently, since I lived in Germany from brith until I was two, I am at risk for mad cow disease. Apparently, there was an epidemic around the time of my birth (1987), so, even though I wasn't old enough to eat meat when we left, and have never experienced symptoms, I could have mad cow disease. Because of this, I am never allowed to donate to the American Red Cross.

Because of that, I hate the American Red Cross.
