I submit Beltway 8 and Fairmont in Pasadena.

East of the loop, on the south side of Fairmont you have a shopping center with a Barnes & Noble with a Starbucks. Directly across on the north side is a Target with a Starbucks inside, and a stand alone Starbucks in the same parking area. Now on the immediate West of the loop another Starbucks is being constructed.

Four total.

If Weingarten Realty gets their way, the River Oaks shopping center area will have Beltway 8 & Fairmont Pkwy beat.

Lewis Black has a funny bit about this...

"...and if you walk to the end of the block, there sits a Starbucks. And directly across the street -- in the exact same building as that Starbucks -- there is... another Starbucks. There is a Starbucks across the street from a Starbucks! And ladies and gentlemen, THAT is the end of the universe." - Lewis Black

Bay Area in Clear Lake

1) At the Freeway by the B&N.
2) At Hwy3 (not even 2 minutes away) by the Boston Market
3) Travel another 2 minutes towards Nasa, on your right by Murphy's.
4) Across the freeway, again not even 2 minutes from the B&N, is another at SuperTarget EDIT: and 1 in the SuperTarget i think - holy crap!
5) not even 2 blocks further west is one across 528.

I bet there's more, for instance, in Baybrook mall.

Basically, there is a starbucks every 1-2 minutes from 528 to upper bay road. Five of them, on average about every 2 stop lights.

My ex moved to Kerrville from Denver. She had lived (and worked) downtown. She said that there were 5 Starbucks within a 3 block radius of her office.

On the other hand, in the hood, I can't find a Starbucks anywhere. The closest one to my house is in the Med Center. In fact, looking at Starbucks' store locator, there is only one Starbucks between 288, 45, and 610 south (though they might not be couting the ones inside other stores, which aren't owned by Starbucks anyway).

Absolutely ridiculous. Two stand-alone Starbuck's RIGHT ACROSS THE STREET FROM EACH OTHER. And they're both crowded! WTF!?!? Reminds me of the scene in "Best In Show" where the yuppie couple talks about how they met at Starbuck's, except they were “not in the same Starbucks but across the street from each other.”

Guy: Can I help you?
Bart: I'd like to get my ears pierced!
Guy: Better make it quick, kiddo, in five minutes this place is becoming a Starbucks.
Bart walks out and all the stores in the mall are now Starbucks

yeah the reason they build so many is to prevent crowding. pretty crazy how popular they are.

Wouldn't you think saturation would set in...

It's like they say, "hey, sales are down, we need a more stores"...but in reality, it hurts the individual performance of each store because as a whole, sales are up...

In my area:

-A standalone Starbucks in the shopping center on Champions and 1960, by Carrabba's
-A Starbucks inside Barnes and Noble, right across 1960
-A Starbucks inside Randall's, in the same shopping center as B&N
-A standalone Starbucks about a mile down at the corner of Steubner and 1960
-A few miles the other way, a Starbucks inside the new Target at Cutten and 1960
-A Starbucks inside Willowbrook Mall, with another one being built
-A standalone Starbucks across the street, in the Willowbrook Commons shopping center
-A standalone Starbucks on the other side of 249, by Circuit City

Yeah, finding coffee isn't a problem in this area.

Not to mention the two other Starbucks on Shephard, one near Alabama and one right before 59. You also have the Starbucks on Montross near Alabama. They would probably put even more in, but they have to compete with two Deidricks, Empire, Brazil, etc.

Seeing as though Starbucks owns Seattle's Best, I'd say the ratios might be worse in some areas than you guys think. They bought the brand to help combat Starbucks fatigue. That way, if you're sick of Starbucks and still want a venti latte, they still most likely get the business.

Read No Logo by Naomi Campbell to learn why they do this!

"Starbucks is notorious for its saturation policy, seeking out competitors in the urban space and building in close proximity to them. Even as its competitors are driven from the field, crushed by its economies of scale, Starbucks will continue to build until its accountants determine that saturation has been reached and superfluous stores are closed. Like Wal-Mart, it hires part-timers who are kept on call, working drastically abbreviated shifts several times a day. It was practices like these that triggered direct action against the chain in Seattle."

sounds like heaven on earth to me. honestly my fav diner. texas cheesesteak plate w/hashbrowns scattered, smothered, and covered. it's good for people watchers. it's best on sunday mornings... you have the folks who just got out of the club, the church-goers, the truckers, the folks that just happened to stumble in, and the cool arse waitresses. total cluster phock.

if the one by the blackeyed pea didn't have that one across the street, it'd be the busiest one in houston. tops for the busiest is the galleria location of course and the second is... yeah... the w gray one by the black eyed pea (fact). it's a good one to chill at and play around on the laptop (if you don't mind older big-boned chicks telling you that you shouldn't smoke.
