I thought I would get this thing started to see who is still interested and if Smeg comes back and runs it, all the better. However, if he is too busy and unable I will work on keeping the league going. So we need to find out who is still in out of the players from last year, which are listed below, and who would want to take the place as there sure to be spots opening. Let me know if your coming back or interested.......rules and everything will be similar to last year, unless people want to see changes.

Here is the list of players from last year:

Fade (coming back for a good 'ol whippin)
Finn (coming back)
Rocketball (coming back)
Moe (coming back)
Jent
Phi
Rimbaud
Crisco
Behad
Cat
Castor
RM95
Smeg
Paul

Alt: Sam, NWO, LH, G-Rocket

Also, let me know when you want to start the draft as we will be doing it as usual in this forum - same rules, ect. apply.

I would like to come back but I'm still off staying with people so I wouldn't know when I'd be able to do the draft. I'd certainly like to be in, but someone might have to draft for me.

One of us needs to contact smeg to see if he is coming back (I doubt it) and to get his password for the site. Then we need to send an email to Mike at Fanstar to see if we can still get the discount (I doubt that also) We can all pitch in to help pay for the league.

If there is no smeg then there is no Paul so that is 2 openings.

The latest we should start the draft is the middle of august, but the earlier the better.

gonna have to say no guys, certainly for running the league anyway, wouldn't mind particpating but not even sure about that, just don't have the time or the interest in a league that 75% of people lose interest after the first month...

happy to email Mike and try to get the discount and also happy to pass on the passwords

Rball -- I recommend sending a mass e-mail out to all former participants explaining the situation and asking if they want to return. Some people don't check this forum regularly, and I know PSJ doesn't even have regular access to the BBS anymore. The e-mail addresses can be gotten from the team pages of the league website.

I emailed everyone in the league from the website, to hopefully get a response by Sunday at which time will start bringing up those that want to join. Hopefully, after that we can set the draft time and draft order next week. Here is an update on who is in:

In the league:

Fade
Finn
Rocketball
Moe
Phi
Jent
Rimmy
Sam (replacing Behad)

Waiting for Response:

Crisco
Cat
Castor
RM95
Smeg
Paul

Reserves: NWO, LH, Greek

I'll give up my spot this year. I know I'm one of the ones guilty of losing interest after the first month, and with a new job and new school and all that other stuff that I have this fall, I don't want to potentially take a spot from someone who really wants to play. I'll participate in a couple of other leagues, but I'll open up my spot in this one for somebody new.

It's been a great fun, fellas.

Here is who is comitted to play this year, from all of the ones that responded - I have included those that asked to be subsitutes to replace the ones I never got a response back - 14 teams total. I never heard anything from Crisco or RM95, so I assume they are not coming back. Therefore, we will go with the following:

Fade
Finn
Rocketball
Moe
Phi
Jent
Rimmy
Sam
Castor
Paul

No, both you and NWO are definitely in, the last two I am still a little nervous about because I need to give Crisco and RM95 one last chance to let me know if they plan on returning. I sent them one last email from the website to see if we get a response.

However, I will set the draft order by this Wendesday, so they have till then.....

We will look to start the draft here in this forum on Wednesday, August 23rd. That is 2 weeks before game 1, so hopefully we will be able to complete it, no reason why we shouldn't.

Couple of questons about Paul, Smeg.

What hours (US time) will Paul be available to make his picks?

Does he have access to this BBS, or will he be making his picks on the site exclusively?

Can you mention to him to PLEASE send a list to one (or more) of us if his pick is coming up and he won't be around?

Is he online on Weekends?

Let's take a quick poll - would everyone prefer to have a quick live draft a few days before the season or a draft more typical to the way we normally do it, here in this forum and start that as requested on August 13th. Let me know...

Secondly, I am a little nervous with Smegs buddy Paul if we do a normal draft and Smeg can't participate. He said he was interested in playing again this year, however I sent hime an email to see if he would be able to do the draft, but have not gotten a response.

I should have the website set up by tomorrow - I just want to know prior to that which draft style you prefer, cause that will have some of an impact on who will be participating. Let me know as soon as you can - let's get this thing started....

Personal preference is the forum draft, but really, I'd be fine with either format. A live draft is good in the sense that, because it happens so late, nobody gets screwed with training camp injuries. Honestly, I could go either way.

Smeg (a few questions),

It appears that more people want to do a fast live draft, if so, are you going to be back in it?

Are you going to run it again?

Can you do a live draft on the site, cause I don't see that option available? If not, then how do we do that.

Question for everyone:

When would be the best time for everyone to do a live draft?

You can set the draft timer to whatever interval you want. So, on the day of the draft, just enter like 3 mins per pick or whatever, set the order, and then put the site into draft mode. It's no different from what we always do, except the timer is set for a few minutes instead of for 12 hours.

LH,

If you go to the top of the page where it says "League Reports" and click that you will see a list, in which has a section called rules - there you can see the scoring by position.

As far as the draft goes, it will run similar to the way the baseball one did (except 3 minutes between picks), on the actual website - there will be a draft area to go into, however won't be able to actually talk with one another. Doing it in the chatroom would be cool for that purpose, especially for giving Fade a tough time for picking Barry Sanders with the #2 pick.

At the top of the page on the League site you see- Home, Live Scores, Statistics and League Reports which when clicking on, drops down a menu. Rules is one of the links in the drop down box. Click on Soring Rules and then by clicking each position shows our scoring system for that position.

When the Draft starts there will be a link from your team page allowing you to enter the Draft.

I think it would be a good idea to hold a practice draft so the new guys can learn how to use the site to make their picks.

Just wanted to post a little something that happened to me that I thought was funny.

I was looking at some football information before I went to bed last night, and I ended up having a strange dream about our football draft. Actually, it was more like a nightmare. :p Somebody, I think LonghornFan, took a Cleveland Brown in the first round. Also, I had Internet problems in my dream and missed my third round pick, and the computer ended up taking Olandis Gary for me. WTF?? Don't ask me what part of my subconscious that came out of.

Anyway, after waking up at 4 am in mortal terror, I started to wonder: what is going to happen if somebody has technical problems during the live draft? In past fanstar drafts, when someone runs out of time it just skips the pick. Will there be a computer auto-pick? I know you can manually set your team on auto-pick, but I remember people having problems with that in the past.

Anyway, if auto-pick does get turned on if somebody's time runs out, how do we rank our players before the draft? I know you can do it once the draft begins, but that's not much good if somebody's connection craps out or they can't make it, etc.. Is there a way to do it before the draft starts? I really don't want to end up with Olandis Gary as my RB2. :p

We have never done a fast live with the fanstar software, and my dream has me a bit freaked out.

I think I'm going to have a few cold ones this weekend and forget about football stuff for a while. :o

BobFinn*
08-11-2006, 03:07 PM
Never done the live draft on fanstar either, so it should be interesting.

I am pretty sure that once it is set to Draft with a 3 minute time limit and your time is up, the computer will select the top Overalll (OVR) player on the list for you (unless that position is filled according to our roster limits).

I know the site made 2 picks for me in our recent baseball league. I had not set it on computer pick.

The draft is still set for Sunday, September 3rd, however at 7PM CDT (instead of 9PM), so we don't keep Fade up too long. There will still be three minutes between picks - 20 rounds. If there is any problems, or you won't be able to make it, let me know as soon as possible.

I did notice people concerned over how a fast draft works on the website, since we have never done it that way - especially what happens after the three minutes if you didn't make a pick. The other option we could do is do a live draft in the bbs chatroom (where it would be much easier to make fun of Fade's picks), then I could add the players to your respective teams. That way if you can't make the draft or have to leave for a short while, you could send someone a list. We can try either way, so if you have a preference, let me know.

LonghornFan

I really hope everyone shows up for the draft. If we wait a whole 3 minutes for each pick, 14 picks through 20 rounds...this draft could take up to 14 hours to complete. I'll be really, really drunk and sleepy by then.

I agree, hopefully everyone will be present or could send me a list, and when we do the draft everyone try and be ready so they don't take the whole 3 minutes - but not sure of any other way to do this (unless we start much earlier, but I hate to keep changing times - tough to get everyones vote in on it through the bbs), as majority here wanted the live draft

However, I am liking the idea of drafting in the chatroom instead........just an idea.

That way if you can't make the draft or have to leave for a short while, you could send someone a list. We can try either way, so if you have a preference, let me know.

damn hope i can get a day off, or at least a late start, should be cool

will speak to paul

Can we extend it from 3 minutes to 5 minutes? It might get pretty bad near the end when we have to pick up scrubs...

That'd be quite a bit too much in my opinion. Three minutes seems like plenty of time.

I really hope everyone shows up for the draft. If we wait a whole 3 minutes for each pick, 14 picks through 20 rounds...this draft could take up to 14 hours to complete. I'll be really, really drunk and sleepy by then.

What?????????? 3 minutes picks? Are we kidding here?

Smeg,

If you want in and can make the draft, you are definitely in..... Just let me know...

I took you off, since you said you couldn't do it, but if you can "The Greek" knows it and you are in.

I am about 95% sure I will unable to do the draft on the 3rd. I will be out of town and most likely without computer access of any kind. Coincidentally, that will take about 95% of the fun out of it. Yay.

Smeg, take my spot. I got invited to spend that Sunday on a 58' Catamaran drinking beers in the Gulf of Mexico. Plus I'm not down for a pick bot making my picks via pre ranking.

If you guys could put me down as first alternate next year that would be swell, Beave. :)

Smeg,

Are you playing on playing and going to be able to make the draft? Also, haven't heard much from Paul is he still joining and going to make the draft?

Also, does anybody know how exactly to set up a live draft (date/time) on the fanstar website - or do I just wait till the start time and start it manually.

the password is the same you gave me, so check it out...

I have emailed paul, have gotten no response since the first time where he said he wanted to come back this year, but nothing since then about the draft and such.

Upon further reflection, I am out.

If it goes back to our regular draft next year, though, I would like to participate.
