Does anyone remember what our record was or how far out we were when we traded for Beltran ? I'm just trying to see what might be if we brought it another big bat if we got Tejada. I know the situation was different but he does have a hell of a bat....

Remember the team's turnaround that year was largey despite Beltran. Another big bat isn't necessarily the answer. The players we have now have to step it up.

I should have something on it at home since he used to be my boy (not literally, just from a fan perspective)

The Stros were 38-34 on June 24, 2004, when the Beltran trade happened. We had considerably more time to turn things around too. If something's gonna happen with this team this year, it had better happen quick.

that intrigued me, so i looked it up:
.258/2/7/.850. not great. he did have a .376 OBP and that was agreeable because a) he was hitting in the 2-hole and b) he had a terrific line-up behind him (bagwell, berkman, kent). as a result, he scored a lot of runs (22) and stole some bases (6).

overall, in 90 games with the astros, he was .258/23/53/.906 with 28 steals (wasn't he a perfect 28-28?) and 70 runs scored. he got on base a lot, stole a lot of bases, scored a lot of runs. and then went absolutely off the charts in the playoffs. we could have resigned him for nuthin if he hadn't gone so nuts.....

It's amazing how our standards for offense have changed. I remember it the same way you guys did - that Beltran really struggled in September. But today, we would be thrilled to get a guy with a 0.850 OPS, and that was considered really bad for him that year.

How does this compare? Couldn't you pull any example in the history of baseball where a team got a bat at mid season?

And it took a while for us to win after Beltran. There was talk in the national media about the Astros trading him at the Trade deadline.

We started our run with only a month left in the season, winning 20 out of our last 30 games
