Hopefully it's not Bagwell retiring. Are they speculating at all on 610?

Oh, and to be the first...

It could be Timmy P. getting his stomach stapled. Ba-zing.

NJRocket

Maybe they are calling up Pence and Patton

MadMax

i thought i heard the guys on the radio say it can't be that....that there's some sort of moratorium during the days immediately before and after the all-star game.

NJRocket

Unfortunately I cant see it being a blockbuster trade and no one except the Astros front office has knowledge of it 1/2 hour before announcing it

liamrock

Well....if it was a big trade, there would certainly be more buzz on 610...they seem to know it's not involving any incoming players.

They can make a deal now. During the days leading up to the all star game you can not.

But this is the astros a major announcement to drayton is up lowering ticket prices. I do not expect anything big at all that will make a difference to this team.

unless it just came about last night or something...at the game. i'm thinking the same thing about a bagwell announcement...i'm thinking if that were coming, ESPN would already be reporting it.

My $$ is on Milo Hamilton retiring
this has merit; plus, where's jimmy d been? i thought he was out for just a game prior to the 4th....?

only question - does milo retiring merit extensive media coverage.....? i guess maybe it does, though i could really care less. btw, his daughter was 53 - seriously, how old is milo?

The Astros are pursuing Mike James.

Word was instead of a trade kicker, James only asked for Tim Purpura to get an extension. I do think we'll see Purpura announce a big acquisition soon though.

Would Purpura be involved if it was something having to do with Milo or JD?

I just noticed on the press release that Drayton and the Count are both main guys involved. We'll see shortly!

My biggest worry is that none of the big guns (Abreu/Tejada/C Lee/Soriano) are gonna be available until right up until the deadline because so many teams are within a handful of games of contending...thus, it's a seller's market.....by the time this road trip ends, the Stros could be out of the race....we need help ASAP!

I vote for something lame like Bagwell retiring.

Ric
07-12-2006, 09:22 AM
i've narrowed it down:

bagwell is retiring - timing seems right
milo is retiring - timing seems right
they're sending down their floatsam (lane, taveras, wandy) and turning it over to the kids (scott... not really a kid, hirch and pence) - timing seems right

i can't think of anything beyond that.

Reason it's a "major announcement" is b/c of Milo's HOF career.

With most of Astro-nation clammoring for a deal to help us for the 2nd half, the Milo thing would be a big letdown.

Purpura needs to buy out the rest of his jowels rather than an extension.

It better not be a contract extension for an Astros. Not worthy of a press conference.

They are trading for Huff

The Astros, poised to acquire a middle-of-the-order hitter they are seeking, are on the verge of acquiring infielder/outfielder Aubrey Huff from the Tampa Bay Devil Rays, FOXSports.com has learned. A deal could be announced as soon as Wedendsay

The Devil Rays would acquire two or three minor league prospects in the trade. The level and quality of the prospects would depend on how much of Huff's remaining salary that the Rays assumed.
