(Talking about All Star Game here)

I mean, poor Phil can't even get one of the top closers in the NL to hold a one-run lead in the 9th inning

:D

EDIT: this posst/thread was a joke. i don't really think garner is cursed. just found the irony comical

Roy must have felt at home - the NL Stars gave him the same kind of run support he gets from the 'Stros. One more out and Oswalt would have been the winning pitcher for the NL.

Wow. That's bizarre. One of the best closers of all time, and he gives up a triple in the clutch? That's just painful. Is Garner cursed? I wouldn't say so yet. If Garner were cursed, the Astros don't win in Game 7 of the ALDS for sure, and we don't come back after that Pujols homer in the ALCS...we would have tanked or gone to game 7 and had some sort of Red Soxesque collapse. But the way things are going this season...

So I have two questions for you.
1. When did the Astros switch leagues
2. How do you get a game 7 out of best of 5?

Oh, btw... the Astros beat the Braves in game 4.

i have one question for you.

since when is the NLCS best of 5? and we won in game 6 by the way.

nice attempt at a clever, smartass response though. you got some of it right.

I feel sorry for Hoffman....poor bastard turned into Lidge for a night.

Then again Albert was in the house....guess it doesn't matter in which dugout!

haha we can go at this forever...

NLDS is best of 5, and we beat the Braves in 4 games. We played the Braves in the NLDS. we played the Cards in the NLCS and yes, you are correct, we won it in 6 games. I think I got it ALL right. ;)

Probably had a pep talk with Lidge before he went out there. 2 outs with no one on base? Screw it up? No problem!

No...the pep talk was from Garner...this is how it went....

Phil: "Okay Brad...uh I mean Trevor....here's the ball...go get'em"

Trevor: "Uh Phil..what do you want be to do out there?"

Phil: "Lets make it dramatic for the fans....I say get the first two out...then sort of let them back into the game!

Trevor: "Huh?"

Phil: "Yeah...I tell Lidge to do this all the time and the fans love it...makes for good baseball!"

Trevor: "But...your team will lose right?"

Phil: "Oh who cares about wins and losses...it's all entertainment anyway and fans like drama!"

That's what I get for not proofing my posts. :(
Point is, if Garner were really cursed, Chris Burke doesn't come through with that home run in the 18th, and the Astros don't come back after the Pujols home run. People forget that after the Buckner gaffe, the Red Sox threw away game 7 of that World Series as well.

No one actually believes Garner is cursed, but he's been getting a pretty amazing string of bad luck ever since that postseason.

A single, a double, and a triple in the ninth inning, with one of the best closers on the mound, all with two outs.

Yeah, I'd say he's cursed.

I (thread starter) was just joking around about Phil really being cursed. But you have to admit it is a little funnny. (after you get over the anger at losing home field)

Yeah, he gets here two years ago and the Astros go on an immediate hot streak. Then, the Astros come back from 15 below .500 and get to the World Series. Exactly how many mirrors has this guy broken?

Dang what's with all these Rangers continuing to torment us.

First it was Blalock hitting that home-run off Eric Gagne (during his streak no less), next it was Soriano and now Michael Young. Who's next? ;)

ANNOUNCEMENT: this thread was a joke (though probably not funny)

I, the thread starter, do not think that Garner is cursed. I just found it ironic that he skips an NL all star team that puts up 2 runs and loses with their closer with two outs in the ninth.

That is all.

Feel free to let this thread sink. The thread's purpose was not to seriously debate whether or not Phil is a good/bad/cursed/not-cursed manager.

He is cursed...His closers suck...Its funny, lidge is horrible right now,but he's still up there in the top 5 of total saves thru the break...

Nobody other than whiny cubfan pussies should put any stock into "curses".

No, I agree..Me and my uncle started saying that a few months ago when weird things started happening to the stros. They have looked like the Bad News Bears at times but recently we are just gonna go with the curse thing :D

I don't know how many times I've said that Lidge blows games on purpose...I know its not true but it gets my frustrations out..I mean how else can you explain so much bad luck ?

Hey it was funny !! You post what you feel. This board has kept me sane for so many years. I use to have another username with over 2,000 posts but I come here to vent after every Roxs and Stros game. There are some very funny people on these boards and once I get a laughing I feel better. Good Post :)

The funny thing about this is the blown save in the All Star game came with two outs and nobody on!! I am sure a lot of people on this board can remember how many times Lidge has done the exact thing so far. It seems like everytime he gets the first two outs and gets into a jam. Funny thing the NL team played like the Astros in the All Star game, i.e. brilliant pitching no clutch hitting and a blown save with two outs and nobody on. Maybe Garner is cursed :D

Honestly, I have no problem with sending Garner down to AAA for a few weeks. :D
