Last night the broadcasters for the New Jersey/Indiana game made a comment as to how ridiculous Scot Pollard's #62 was and how he was crazy to pick that number. What is the big deal with 62? Its not like its 69...

It's hard for the refs to make a 62 with their hands maybe.

It's unusual to do anything higher than 35 or so. That's the only thing that'd come to my mind.

I was long under the impression that 55 was the highest number allowed for this reason, until Dennis Rodman got 91 somehow.

This rule only applies to high school and college. A player is allowed to use any number in the nba.

Which reminds me of my little rebel self turning my 22 into an 88 in junior high...

ANY number? I'd pick 12,365 then. You wanna call a foul on me refs? Go right ahead.

Wow...I can't believe there's a professional broadcaster who is unaware of why Pollard wears #62.

Pollard has always worn #31 to honor his father who wore #31 in HS and at the University of Utah. Pollard's father, (Jazz owner) Larry Miller, and Danny Ainge were all inducted into the Utah HOF in 1999.

When Pollard joined the Pacers, 31 was well spoken for by Reggie Miller....hence he doubled the number.

The announcer probably just ran out of things to say. Or the number 62 murdered his family.

Significance of 62?

When I read the title, I thought you referring to Kobe's 62 which T-Mac also put up once.

Who cares about Scott Pollard? :D

Well an nba jersey can only have two digits. Those two digits can be any single digit, 0-9 (although I am not sure if they are allowed to wear a number such as 05). Whereas in highschool and college each digit must be below 5.

He just did it to sell more uniforms, it's all about the $$$. Now you are going to see all of these kids with the #62 Pollard jersey.

I think because that episode where Bert and Ernie came out of the closet was brought to us by the number 62.
