Reggie would've been a 2nd or 3rd rounder at QB if he came out after his junior year. His senior year was an unmitigated disaster as he overthrew receivers regularly, showed no pocket presence, and demonstrated inadequate leadership skills. Hell, even Fran benched him for the season finale vs Texas at Kyle Field.

But, I will say that with the success that Antwan Randle-El and Hines Ward in the NFL, I wouldn't be surprised to see him drafted as a WR. He's got legit 4.4 speed and decent size at 6'2. I think someone might just take a 3rd round flyer at best, but he could fall to the 4th round.

Randle El finished 6th in heisman voting as a senior.

Reggie McNeal finished 0th

I'm intrigued by McNeil. He had a horrible and injury plagued senior year.

His junior year was pretty good and he was a dark horse for a run on the Heisman before his craptacular senior season.

He is extremely physically gifted. He is not only flat out fast, but his acceleration is very fast as well.

I think a lot of teams will be looking at him as a pure athelete in the third to fifth rounds.

What intrigues me most about his is his arm. He has a cannon, and before his senior year, he showed pretty good accuracy, especially on quick short passes that a lot of NFL teams use.

If in 5 years he turns out to be a total bust and never play any significant time, I wouldn't doubt it. If after 5 years he turns out to be a decent NFL player, I wouldn't doubt that either.

The Texans will be able to get something real nice for that 4th round pick.

Either they go to bed Saturday night knowing that there is someone very good who should of been a first day pick that they really want with that number one pick of day two or they figure there are a couple of guys that they want and then a trade down a few spots for an extra pick.

As far as Mcneil I would be very disapointed if we drafted him in the forth round because we have no fifth round pick and the sixth and seventh rounds are tough to land a player who will be more than a practice squad guy.

Yeah -- Randle El was a special college player. McNeil is gifted athletically, but his accomplishments on the football field don't compare.

He also was in a system that was change to a spread OPTION as a Senior. This is not his ideal system as he is not an option QB. He also lost his top 3 WR's early in the season and had to work with many WR's that couldn't catch the ball.
He was benched due to an injury in the OU game. I've heard he actually suffered the ankle injury earlier in the season and then aggrivated it in the OU game.
I do not see him as a WR as he has more straight ahead speed than anything else. If he doesn't make it as a QB, which given the right system and situation I think he will make a fine QB in a couple of years, I could see him turning out to be something similar to what Jerome Mathis is right now.

McNeal is interesting. He's got a great arm and good mobility but his accuracy has been poor and the general consensus is that he's going to have trouble reading defenses. I'd take a flyer on him in the 5th round (we don't have a pick though). Nothing sonner then that. We have other areas we need to address and QB is the last of them. This is too deep a draft to take risks on position that aren't of need.

I read today the same stuff we've been hearing about him...that he wants at least a fair chance at QB, but that he's willing to switch to WR if they ask him to. BUT...this time he added something I hadn't seen before...that he's also willing to play safety. Is this something he did in high school?

Anyhow, I'm guessing the Cowboys take him. Probably round 4 or 5.

What's with all the VY/McNeal hate anymore? Sheesh, the college years are over and VY won that round. (I'm an Ag and I can admit that) Bottom line is they're both Texans, so what's wrong with hoping they BOTH do great at the next level. Pointing out the weaknesses they'll have to overcome is fine, but I don't understand posters who seemingly take great joy in focusing on their shortcomings.

Go McNeal AND Young, make Texas proud fellas!

I used to think that it would be too perfect that an old quarterback coach who happens to be an aggie...

is taking over an NFL team in the year that the aggies and the Longhorns both have draftable quarterbacks coming out of school...

there's all of this attention being paid to the Longhorn by the fans and the media...

it's day two of the draft and the aggie is still on the board...

Nah, it'd never happen.

If Reggie and Vince both came out last year I really think McNeal would have gone first. This year his recievers let him down big time early on with injury and dropped passes. That seemed to kill his confidence in the long run. Mechanically he seems strong, I think he deserves a shot. I remember watching Seneca Wallace (Seahawk QB) back in the day and Reggie showed he has way more potential than Wallace did. He is way too small to play safety right now. gig em pie

I think I read somewhere that he took about 24 snaps as a FS his Senior year in HS. Of those 24 snaps, he had 6 or 8 interceptions. I think he would make a great ball hawk, but a poor tackler.

I think Marvin Lewis will give him a chance to prove that he can be a quarterback first.

ESPN interviewed marvin lewis today and it sounded like he's pretty set on converting him to another position. He kept talking about Reggie's great athleticism and potential and how he will find a way to take advantage of his skills.

I strongly doubt Reggie will be playing QB in the NFL.
