The Astros middle relief is a ****ing joke!
Last night at the game I went from being pumped up with all those runs we scored to not even wanting to clap my hands at the end of the game.
If Backe is gonna be out for the year and if Clemens does not pitch for the Astros we will only have two guys that I have any faith in to get us to the back of the bullpen.
I belive Lidge, Wheeler and Quall's will all be ok but after that we are screwed.
I say cut our loses and get rid of Miller now before he is the next Micelli.
I say send Zeke down to the minors now before he is the next Tim Redding.
Of course if Backe is ok and Clemens comes back that pushes two of the current starters into middle relief and things don't look that bad.
Oh well go Stros and I would like to hear yall's thoughts!

Those guys are brutal. I'd prefer if I never saw them in an Astros uni again.

I would first send down Zeke and bring up Jason Hirsch (sp) and see what he can bring to the table.
As far as Miller we paid him a bunch of money (I think 1.4 mil) so I ride it out with him untill I know either Back's status or Clemens.

Perhaps because my financial decisions are really none of your business. If Clutch has a problem with it, he's welcome to ask. If he wants to ban me, he's welcome to do that. Why you'd think I'd care about your opinion towards it, I'm not really sure, unless you think a bit too highly of yourself.

I'd argue that Major is much more of a contributor to this bbs than you are, even though he hasn't donated any money.

Back to topic,
I don't like Miller.
Zeke has potential to become an good middle reliever. Last year, he was a sub 4 era reliever after the allstar break. May need more seasoning in minors, but I do not hold his disasterous starting pitching against him. Even in minors, he had problems the second and third times through the orders. He just should not be used in games that are within 3 runs if Astros behind or 5 if ahead or for more than 9 batters.

I agree Trever Miller sucks. I hated him when he was with the Astros in 1999. I wanted the Astros to trade for JC Romero who the Angles got for nothing. Mike Gallo also sucks. Everytime he comes in the game, I know he is going give up at least 1 run. Zeke still has the same problems as last year but he is better than any other option in Round Rock. RR has scrubs like Travis Driskill, Brandon Puffer, Joe Valentine, Dave Borkowski. Chris Sampson is someone who I think will join the Astros if Zeke or any other pitcher struggles. Also the Astros recently signed reliever Justin Huisman to a minor league contract from the Royals. He has some good minor league number and he could help maybe.

I like Zeke and it pained me to see him struggle last night.
I say stick it out with Zeke and get rid of Miller now. He's this year's John Franco. We have Gallo (lefty) & Qualls (righty) to go against lefthanded batters. And either one of them is a better option than Miller.

I also don't understand why the Astros continue to play Humberto Quintero over Hector Gimenez in Round Rock. Gimenez should be starting as much games possible because he may be our catcher of the future. Quintero doesn't have a future with this team. Also JR House needs to be in Round Rock instead of Quintero. I really like House and he was top prospect before going to play football. If Munson continues to not hit, I wouldn't be surprised him get demoted in favor of House.

It would be nice if we could get the equivalent of Gary Gaetti for a pitching coach.

Its too early to shake up the bullpen...Give it another couple weeks. Especially since we are winning.
Also who gives a rats wazoo if someone has fed the clutchfans kitty. I just contributed cause I happened to have the disposable income one week, I normally don't have a lot of $ to spend on websites and I would hate to constantly have my a$$ ridden about it.

holy crap, this thread is just all kinds of WTF
Back on topic, *ahem*
I don't think there's anyone just yet who we can replace both Miller and Astacio. Hernandez would have been one of those guys, but he's injured, Nieve is already up, and once Backe comes back, we can send Miller back down, unless we trade for a starter.
Back off topic, did Major run over your dog?

Last year were you asking to get the equivalent of Jim Hickey for a hitting coach?

give it time. there are no logical replacements. you're not going to bring up a pitcher like Hirsch to pitch middle relief and take away innings he needs in the minors to develop properly.
middle relief is almost always a crapshoot. these are the guys who aren't great enough to be closers and don't have it to be starters. their performances from year to year vary. no one is going to be a trade partner this early in the season.

No kidding.
Miller has had nothing on his pitches so far, and now he's on the DL w/ an elbow strain. No idea who'll they'll bring up.
Zeke will be fine.

Miller on the DL: (http://houston.astros.mlb.com/NASApp/mlb/news/article.jsp?ymd=20060419&content_id=1408201&vkey=news_hou&fext=.jsp&c_id=hou) Following the Astros' 7-2 loss to the Brewers on Wednesday, the Astros placed left-handed reliever Trever Miller on the disabled list with a sprained left elbow.
The injury is identical to Backe's, but manager Phil Garner said Miller's wasn't as serious.
"It's been creeping up on him the last couple of weeks," Garner said. "It's not something he's had before, but it's something he was trying to fight through. Yesterday, he said something about it."
Miller thought he could pitch through it, which is why he waited so long to alert the athletic trainers. He decided enough was enough after allowing a two-run homer to Prince Fielder during the bullpen's collective meltdown during Tuesday's 13-12 win.
"It came to a head when I realized I almost blew the game," Miller said. "Where would we be if I'm not going to be hard-headed like that and costing ballgames early in the season? That would be stupid, and stubborn."

Last night performance by Springer and Gallo was also uninspiring.

Gallo, yes. Springer got dinked & dunked on some pretty good pitches; his slider & sinker had a ton of movement last night.

Springer looked fine, it just was bad luck. The Brewers got 2 broken bat hits off him, iirc. I'm almost glad there's some reason for Miller pitching horribly.
I agree on Sampson being a possibility. Perhaps Puffer as well.
Can we pull another Dan Wheeler for Adam Seuss trade?

Stros purchased Dave Borkowski's contract from RR:
Borkowski, 29, is 0-1 with a 2.57 ERA (2ER/7.0IP) in six appearances for Round Rock this season. He last appeared in the Major Leagues with Baltimore in 2004, when he was 3-4 with a 5.14 ERA (32ER/56.0IP) in 17 games, including eight starts. In 51 career big league outings (21 starts), Borkowski is 5-13 with a 6.33 ERA (118ER/167.2IP)

I appreciate the sentiment, but please don't! If you donate, please do so in your own name - I kind of enjoy the senior member label. Plus, it annoys the likes of bigtexxx, which is even better! :) Thank you, though!

Too late. You'll have to ask Clutch. Sorry, but you made it sound as if it was a monetary thing not a title thing.
