Word is that Texans have moved Chester Pitts back to LG and Steve McKinney to RG. Zach Wiegert is at RT, Seth Wand at LT, and Mike Flanagan at Center. Mike Sherman is working with Seth Wand at the offseason workouts. "There's a good chance that we may not address (offensive line) in the first round," general manager Charley Casserly said. "We might address it in another round. With the schemes that we're bringing in, I think we're going to be much improved with the players we have."

I think they will change the line again. I like the fact they moved Chester Pitts to LG because he can be real good guard because he is a solid run blocker but his pass blocking still needs work. He has the size of a guard not tackle. I don't like Seth Wand. He has size but he sucked when he had the chance to start. Hopefully Sherman could help him improve. I really feel that they will draft a tackle with the first pick in the second round, maybe Eric Winston or Marcus McNeil if they fall.

Whatever they do pick something now and stay with it all year we need these guys playing together and not moving around all preseason.

Seth Wand, nice, he personally has been responsible for about 1/2 of Carr's sacks when he has started. He is big without any lateral quickness, his footwork is ok on the practice field but he gets beat easily by speed rushers, he is an avg. run blocker without much power leverage.

I guess we are putting our best five linemen on the field, too bad that 3 of the five are avg. or below.

Ugh, I hope this is not true. I mean, maybe Sherman is confident that he can teach Wand and turn him into an adequate LT...but we already HAD an adequate LT...named Chester Pitts. In fact, I am of the opinion that Pitts is a better tackle than a guard. He seemed to really stabalize the line when he was at LT...and when he was at guard he seemed to be getting blown off the line a lot more often. I know that according to the traditional molds, Pitts should be a guard and Wand should be a tackle, but sometimes you have to go against convention.

Yeah, I'm not sure how I feel about this. Not a big Seth Wand fan...

In keeping with my "2-14 was because of bad schemes, not bad players" theme, hopefully a new scheme will make a difference. Maybe having Sherman here will help.

If anything we need to try Pitts at RT and have McCrappy at LG and Wand would be used sparingly at LT, behind the player we draft in the 2nd round.

This might improve our interior line, but pass blocking was our biggest weakness and this move only exposes the weakness at tackle.

I assumed that Pitts would play tackle opposite Winston or McNeil.

I don't like it.

Marcus McNeil is not thought of as being a LT in the NFL. I think at best he goes late 2nd, but I don't think it's a stretch to say he'll still be on the board in the late 3rd.

I love it when people just make things up to help their view point. Wand allowed 12.5 sacks in 2004, his only year as a starter, Carr was sacked 49 times.

It's not good, but it was his first season, and he was better than Pitts was as a rookie. My post was in response to rhester's claim that Wand was "personally responsible for about 1/2 of Carr's sacks when he has started," which is completely untrue.

actually, when you consider that the OL isn't responsible for ALL of Carr's sacks (that Carr has some blame in a number of them) then rhester's claim makes a ton of sense.

yeah, i hear ya. so rhester didn't say it...but i'll say it for him. if carr was responsible for 10 of his own sacks, then wand was responsible for over 1/3 of those given up by the OL.

No it doesn't. None of the sacks were officially attributed to Carr. Unless you have evidence otherwise, Wand would have logically been attributed some of those sacks that were Carr's fault.

Im sure Carr is responsible for at least 1 sack...cause running out of bounds behind the line of scrimmage counts as a sack doesn't it? :P :D

Kubiak said Carr was responsible for 20 of the 68 sacks last year. Backs were responsible for something like 10 (can't remember that number exactly, but it was around 10). The line was responsible for well over half.

No doubt Carr bears a LOT of responsibility for the sacks he took last year, but I tend to see this as an overall offensive problem. The line sucked. The backs couldn't block. Carr ran scared way too much. There was one legit receiver and no TE. The passing offense was a freakin' disaster from top to bottom.

I don't think you understood Moe's post. He didn't say Carr wasn't responsible for any sacks, he said he wasn't officially credited for any. Therefore, an offensive lineman was charged with the sack instead of Carr.
