I watched him play at the U-20 World Championship, and was quite impressed. He's a natural central defender, but many believe he'll be able to play the holding role in midfield as well. We don't have a second round pick (traded last season for Kelly Gray), but have a third and two fourth round picks to come.

Nobody does, it won't be announced until next Wednesday.

I like the pick, our starting central defender signed with an English team during the offseason so I guess they are trying to add depth at that position.

I don't know that much about soccer but I plan to start watching this april. I was wondering if there is any chance of getting ricky lewis, last I heard he was in colorado. I played high school basketball with him but he quit to play soccer, good choice it seems now! It would be nice to see a homegrown product playing for our new franchise.

It would be great to see local talent on the team but I doubt they'll make trades any time soon. They had the best record in the league last year and the team has stayed mostly intact. I don't see them rocking the boat too much even though there are a few good players from the Houston area playing in the league now.

They trade their second round pick to the Columbus Crew but I don't know for what. They selected midfielder Andre Schmid from St.Johns in the 3rd round.

There hasn't been any TV deal announced yet but they should have a few games on ESPN2 on Saturdays. Of course you can always go out to the games to support them. :)

I was watching some show on Fox and Jesus Ortiz went off on MLS. He was like you can fool the soccer moms but Mexicans aren't stupid, and the MLS is inferior to Europe.

Last thread I saw it said "Houston Republic" with a shield type logo (light blue and orange as the main colors). I am not sure if this is going to be it or not though.

That turned out to be a hoax. And sadly I'm kind of scared that the fake one will end up better than the real one.

Houston Que Nombre?
The voting is over for the Houston MLS name. Right now there is a clear favorite with the momentum and mojo, the odds on choice that is being given the once over around the league office and owners. That name is Houston 1836. The decision at this point is not Houston 1836 versus some other name like Apollos, Toros, or Mustangs, instead the decision is do we, or do we not, go with Houston 1836? Is this a name we can live with for years?

That’s the name on the table. Will they run with it?

I like it. I also like the name. I'm glad they went with something more traditional. The logo does play on the Astros star a little, but is that necessarily a bad thing?

I'm looking foward to my first MLS game this season. It's not everyday the team with the best regular season record moves to your town. It will take a little time to catch on, but I think it will in a big way. This is truly the best chance to bring a championship to Houston.

They need to just refer to them as the "36ers", that would work.

Seriously though, I like the logo and I like the 1836 name, I think it's a good choice not to go with some generic name like the "Toros" or whatever else. I loved it when our current NFL pro team went with the "Texans", because it acknowledged the great pride we as Texans take in our state, that we think we're unique and like to have unique names.

I think the guys did good with the logo...definitely will support the team by going to as many games as is possible.
