View Full Version : [Heads up] Vince Young live on VinceRadio 610 @ 9AM (Wednesday)

Towards the end of the Tuesday afternoon show with "da voice" and Rich, they mentioned that Vince Young will be joining Lance and John on Wednesday (1-11-06) morning's show at 9AM.

Although Lance and John are NOT the greatest interviewers in the world, I expect this to be fun. Fireworks indeed - please call in and show Vince how much we love to have him since we know that the Texan's brass will be listening and keeping tab as well.

It is a date guys/gals.

P.S. While listening, make sure you have your DRAFTVINCEYOUNG T-shirt, hat and underwear on :)

Don't be an A$$.....

610 is in the business of making money, and right now Vince is hot, Chance is doing what any good producer would do, get the "Hot" commodity onto his program.

If you are a Texas hater, fine. But what if Vince gets drafted by the Texans, will you hate him too?

Don't be a hater, and stop being a whiner !

According to Richard Justice this morning on the radio...a representative with NFL Properties told Bob McNair that Vince Young is the most popular ATHLETE in the country right now. Not football player. Athlete.

You can wish it would go away...but it won't. It isn't just Texas fans, either. VY made a lot of people Texas fans who didn't care all that much about them before. Particularly so from the area of Houston he grew up in.

Vince Young is the hottest athlete in America. What else are people gonna talk about in Houston, the NFL playoffs. the only other thing worth talking about is Longhorn Bball. Seriously, all Rockets talk would be depressing. the Tejada deal supposedly has fallen through.

I'm not a VY hater its just when a radio is promoting itself as Vince Radio 610, live from Vinceston, Texas all Vince all the the time, it gets a little tiring.
If the Texans draft him I will be one of his biggest fans. I just think drafting Bush is the smarter move. Hey, there's an idea, maybe we could talk about the future face of the Texans, Reggie Bush.

when asked does he feel for David Carr: Vince Young: "half the time he did alright but you have to help your o-line out by moving around a little bit and getting the ball out a little quicker" he did go on to say he did a good job with what he had but I thought that part was funny.

They just asked Vince about all the sacks that Carr has taken....he said something like "Sometimes I think you need to help your O-Line out and get rid of the ball quicker." Hey at least he's honest.

So far Vince has acquited himself well during this radio session. I try to gather my thoughts later and contribute to the recap.

Has he directly mentioned playing for the Texans?

Raven Lunatic
01-11-2006, 09:54 AM
To me, that is one of the things that I think we will notice the most about Young when compared to Carr. Sure, his legs will let him do some amazing things when he scrambles, but Young has extraordinary pocket sense and spacial awareness for a young QB. I don't know what Carr was like in college, but it seems like, on the rare occasions when the Oline does provide him with a bit of a pocket, he doesn't effectively step up into it or sense the rush coming. If he gets pressured, he either bolts out of the pocket, sometimes into other pass rushers, or he tucks and falls so he doesn't get hit hard. I don't see this happening with Young. He will find ways to get his passes off.

Personally, I have always supported drafting Reggie Bush, but that interview and the lobbying could be the kind of attitude that the Texans needed. I hope Casserly hasn't totally made up his mind yet on Bush or whoever and actually try to see what other trade possibilities are out there that might not include the pick.

Let me say first that I want Carr gone and to draft VY.

Now.. you know you're a homer when you say VY is "all-class". Wasn't he the one who said, "we have some guys on this team who are gangsta." ? And the one who basically belittled Bush's season as just being highlights. (And no, the 'but he's a good player' didn't save him.) And now he was talking semi-bad ab Carr to get the Texans to draft him..

I'm in favor of VY's potential over Carr's class, but let's not get carried away with the praise. ;)

I just hope the Texans can make an unbiased assesment and not buy into the nonstop lovefest with VY. I'm not saying that an unbiased assesment doesn't mean to take VY, I just hope they rule out all earlier hype for Bush and current hype for VY and go with what makes the team better for next year and in the future.

Vince does look annoyed in those photos, but I doubt he really is annoyed. Besides, when Vince Young smiles, people die. Thanks for posting all that Chance... very cool stuff.

Is it even feasible to trade David Carr? I've heard that trading him means the Texans take a cap hit, or his money stays on the cap or something? I'm too much of an NBA contract guy ... I don't understand the NFL salary cap. If they can't get value for Carr, I'd think you have to go Reggie Bush still. I would love it if they could get something significant for Carr.

I'd add also that Vince may want to play for Houston ... but if the Titans had the #1 pick and the Texans had the #3, I highly doubt he'd be hoping that he was passed in the top 2. He wants, first and foremost, to be the #1 pick.

pgabriel

to trade carr they would have to resign him to the contract extension agreed upon on his first contract, the one everyone keeps referring to. I think that carries an $8MM signing bonus. They would take the entire cap hit of the bonus if they trade him. that's how I believe the signing bonus works. I also don't know how long the extension is.

they can also franchise carr. which means pay him the avg of the top three qb contracts I believe, for one year but I don't know if they can trade a franchised player. probably not.

they can also extend him for 2 years at $5 million instead of the 3 at $8 mill.

they can put something called a transition tag on him, too, that makes it easier to trade him.

They take a cap hit on the signing bonus, it's guaranteed money.
So if they want V Young they probably will keep Carr at the 2 yr ext.
If they want Bush they will sign Carr to the 3 yr. ext.

That's what I am waiting for.

I doubt they can trade Carr unless another team doesn't have a cap problem.

BMoney
01-11-2006, 02:25 PM
The best route to trade Carr is to franchise him for one year at around $10 million (I read it was $8 million last year and should rise a bit as the salary cap rises). He would be a more attractive asset for another team because they would not have to take on a signing bonus. It would also be the least painful route for the Texans to absorb a cap hit. That's my understanding. My instinct is to take Bush, or trade down and get a package, but maybe Carr is already ruined here since everybody and his mother wants Vince Young. I'm on board. He wants to be here, Houston wants him to be here, I want to him here..let's hope Bob McNair wants him here.

I was waiting for something like what Clutch wrote earlier. I agree that I think VY just wanted to be the first pick. Of course, the Texans owning that pick is a plus, but maybe he really just doesn't wanna fall behind Reggie Bush again?

That picture, VY does look annoyed....

I'm still leaning towards Bush, as him and DD can coexist much better than VY and Carr could in terms of playing time. However, I'm almost right down the middle after hearing from VY and him lobbying to be this pick. I believe that he'll work hard to fulfill being the number 1 pick overall. And I learn not to ever doubt him.

I don't agree w/ this at all. Every athlete has aspirations of playing for their hometown team, it just so happens that we have the #1 pick. If it was a team like New Orleans or even the Titans w/ the #1, I don't think VY would be talking about how much he wants to play for them.

I heard a replay from the Chronicle site...Who doesn't want to play for the home team...It rarely happens, but if you have the opportunity, then you do it...The Texans will make a huge PR/Football mistake for not taking him...too much upside...Don't give Carr the bonus...trade him now...Even if you have a veteran play the first year, VY will be groomed as Steve McNair was...SM career turned out alright...

Talking about the cap hit should we re-sign Carr before moving him how come no one is talking about the caveat - which is the NFL cap going up to about $100M? We could take a cap hit for one season or two max and still be in descent shape.

We are in rebuilding mode like it or not and the FA in this offseason is not that tantalizing anyway. Drafting VY and keeping Carr is not a wise option for the franchise and Carr's health.

I don't have a problem with Vince having his own show (as long as he focuses on the Longhorns), but if he doesn't get drafted by Texans (which he won't), it won't last.

The best move that Vince could make would be to go to the Titans. Sitting out one year under his mentor learning their system would prepare him better than bringing him here under a soon to be released Carr (awkward).

Vince is definately not ready to start. The fans would be impatient with his development and start the booing.

Don't get me wrong. If we had an established coaching staff and team and our record was based on injuries and he was stepping into a situation where we NEEDED a QB change that would be different.

That's not the case.
