Canada's government is thrown out

Canadian Prime Minister Paul Martin's government has been ousted in a no-confidence vote.

Canada's three opposition parties united against his Liberal Party, which has been mired in a corruption scandal.

Mr Martin is expected to seek the dissolution of parliament on Tuesday, and a date for a general election - thought likely to be 16 or 23 January.

Recent polls suggest Mr Martin's Liberals will take most votes in the election - but will not win a majority.

Gosh, look what happens when I just temporarily leave the country  It's quite a shock to me, to be honest; not the scandal, but rather the outcome. Liberals has so many flaws in Canada, but so far, they are still better than other parties, in my opinion. I voted for them, and voted for McGuinty as well, although he broke his promise on the second day. Canada is doing ok in economic, but there is lots of room to improve. I think it's a good thing, if they could form some coalition in the government.

You and me both. You should see how the British parliament grills Blair on regular basis, makes you long for seeing something approaching that here in the US.

The Israelis have a darn good system as well as Germany.
