Coming ... maybe to Houston: Sign up for World Series lottery
Tickets for this week's NLCS Games 3, 4, 5 sold out
Copyright 2005 Houston Chronicle
It's still an if, maybe a when, for the Astros.
Astros fans can secure a place in the lottery for individual tickets to a potential World Series at Minute Maid Park by registering online at www.astros.com, starting at noon tomorrow through 5 p.m., Friday, Oct. 14.
On Saturday, Oct. 15, a random drawing will be held among all fans who have registered online. Those selected in the random drawing will be notified via e-mail on Sunday, Oct. 16. The e-mail will provide winners with instructions on how to purchase tickets to Astros World Series games online on Monday, Oct. 17, between 10:00 a.m. and 5:00 p.m. CT.
“We wanted all fans to have an equal opportunity to purchase tickets to the Astros first-ever World Series,” said Bill Goren, Astros director of ticket sales. “We used a similar program when we made individual game tickets available for fans to buy during last year’s World Series ticket on-sale and the 2004 All-Star Game.”
There is a four-ticket purchase limit for each winner selected in the random drawing, subject to availability. Ticket prices for the World Series, set by Major League Baseball, are $125-$185 per seat and $45 for standing room only.
If the Astros reach the World Series, the team would host games on:
• Tuesday, Oct. 25 (Game 3).
• Wednesday, Oct. 26 (Game 4).
• Thursday, Oct. 27 (Game 5, if necessary).
All dates and times are subject to change by Major League Baseball.
For more information, log on to www.astros.com or call (800) ASTROS-2 (800-278-7672).
Meanwhile, tickets are sold out for this week's NLCS Games 3, 4, and 5 (if necessary), scheduled to be hosted by the Astros at Minute Maid Park.

MLB had something similar last year and my buddy in Dallas bought some, but as we know, we didn't quite make it. When they had the Allstar game here I got the chance to buy them through the lottery. Pretty sweet deal. I'm headed to Denmark tomorrow but hopefully I'll be able to sign up before I get on a plane.

Good luck with that. Perhaps you should have mentioned your wife somehow in the revised password. Lest you be accosted by those of an alternate sexual persuasion.
Which would be pretty funny.
And be honest. If it could get you tickets to all three games, you'd do it.

I registered for tickets on Astros.com and I will also be trying like hell on Friday morning at 10AM to buy tickets from the Angels since I live in SoCal and I would love to wear my Stros jersey into the Angels stadium for game 6 when we WIN the series!

Is this only good for Astros World Series Tickets?
Could I try winning them off of the STL. site in case they go instead?
Cause I mean, if they beat us, I wouldnt mind sticking it to some STL fans on the re-sell market. :D
EDIT: I just checked all the LCS team sites and the Astros are the only one with a WS ticket lottery. Another reason to be proud of our team.
I did try to win Game 2 tickets to the NLCS, no telling what I will do if I win.
The way my life has been going these days. I have a feeling I may get an email telling me that i can buy some World Series Tickets.
BUT, I have exactly $3.02 left in my bank account.

In the lottery (at least how it was last year), you get a personal password. Once you buy your tickets with it, it expires so you can't get more. So I don't think you're going to get his password. :)

I understand that there's a lot of people wanting these tickets and that's why the lottery system was made... so that everyone has a fair chance of getting tickets to the big games!...
But going to ebay and searching for world series astros tickets made me kind of sick. It started making me wonder just how many people have an x amount of e-mail accounts just to win the lottery so they can sell it for thousands of dollars for 2 tickets? Someone actually put down an initial bidding of $10,000 for a set of 4.
I'm not really upset over not getting a chance to go, but so many Astros fans here in this board, only to see people trying to make 10-20 times their price THE NIGHT THAT THE TICKETS WERE SOLD!
To me, it just felt like the fans are cheated from this more than anyone else. Believe me, people will pay those prices just to go, but there must be a better way to do this lottery thing than to sign up through e-mails.

ummm...i'm pretty sure those are season tix holders or scalpers with a bunch of season tix selling their tickets. The tickets that you win in the lottery are probably left over after all the season ticket holders are helped.

Actually, I was thinking about that after I posted it. My mistake on that part. It just also occurred to me that the people who won the lottery couldn't get their tickets until tomorrow, so yeah, season ticket holders. So that many scalpers owning season tickets, huh? I oughta talk to my company about the upcoming Rockets season :D
At any rate, 3000 - 10000 for 2-4 tickets is a little over the edge. I guess as long as people are willing to pay for it, you can't blame them for trying to squeeze out the very last cent for those tickets.
geeimsobored
10-17-2005, 12:42 AM
Well your only other hope is www.ticketreserve.com
Their system works like ebay. You bid for the right to buy world series tickets. I think tickets for the first game at MMP are going for 250 bucks for the right to buy some tickets at face value and that price is going up every day. Although some people may sell some rights for cheaper prices. (250 is the buy it now price) I bought the right to a couple of weeks ago for 15 bucks a ticket.
Anyway, that might be cheaper than scalpers but i have no idea.
Supermac34
10-17-2005, 12:51 AM
3-5K seems way too high for World Series tickets.
Once the game days roll around, I bet you can get some seats for cheaper than that.
How many seats does MMP have? About 40K?
40,000 X 3 Games in Houston = 120,000 available seats. There is just more supply than in a Super Bowl or NBA finals or something like that.
Shop around if you really want tickets. I've also heard you can get tickets game day for cheaper as scalpers rush to get rid of their supply.
candlegreen
10-17-2005, 12:53 AM
I'm just going to host some WS viewing parties somewhere if I can't find my way to tickets. I already got people coming down from Austin and other places to go watch together that week. Checked my mail tonight and nothing. I figured they had already done the drawing and I lost. Then I checked here and saw some people that won, so by chance I checked the barracuda program running on my work email, and there was my winning email. Hopefully I can get a pair of tickets to one of the games.

A buddy of mine has great season tickets. He sold his game 3 WS pair for 3k already. He is going to buy some cheaper seat tickets with some of the profit from each game, and use the rest to get some new wood flooring. He's been a season tikcet holder forever, and says he almost never pays for a single game, due to the profit he makes selling the good games/playoffs.

Love the Astros, but a middle finger goes out from me to the Astros ticket office. Congrats to those of you who got it, but it's incredibly disheartening to watch this. I've been to dozens of regular season game, 4 out of 5 playoff games... why can't I just get a chance to get tickets? It's not even that I have to have tickets. Just give me the chance.
It wasn't too much for the White Sox to do a non-lottery system. Why can't we do at least some non-lottery? Maybe save the SRO. Or maybe do the initial purchasing via the lottery and the "second chance" ticket opportunity open to the public. Maybe save a few for the box office for the most dedicated fans - hell, I'd wait there for days.
It's not so much that I expected to be able to go to a game. After all, it's the World Series. But it's just incredibly frustrating to watch dozens of people I know (who aren't even that great of fans) get to go to the World Series and many of the most dedicated fans don't even get a chance. If they're sold out, they're sold out, and I can live with it... if I just get one freakin' chance. That's all I'm asking.

Hey guys I got tickets to games 4 & 5 (2 tickets to each game) Section 253 for game 4 and Section 152 for game 5. I'm an Astros fan but a bigger Rockets fan and I can live with going to at least one game of the World Series. (Depending on the outcome of games 1 & 2) I'll be selling 2 tickets of either game, giving a bigger Astros FAN a chance to attend a game. I will not be asking for a high price for the tickets but as long as it covers the money I spent for all 4 tickets. ;) More or less around $300 for each ticket. (Trading will be taking into consideration) I figured it was a cheaper price to pay for than if buying from ebay or scalpers. Anybody interested shoot me an email sometime after games 1 & 2.

I don't care if this is the Astros first World Series...these prices these tickets are being scalped for our ridiculous. Why don't I just sign over my car and house while I'm at it?
I'm starting to think the best way to get tickets is to show up an hour before the game and buy them from scalpers who have to sell them at highly reduced prices just to unload them. Or, else, a lot of these tickets are going to go unsold.

said it once, and i'll say it again. **** the lottery.
I usually don't have any problem with people making money off of tickets... but again, it's because the real fans have the same opportunity to get the tickets. Here, where thousands of diehards don't even get the chance... it sucks. Why can't they even rope off a few hundred seats or something for sale to the general public? I don't have to win... I'd just like to have the chance to try. Hell, I'd like to have the chance to pay 4 times face value to get in... and as ridiculous as that sounds, that's not even half of what most tickets are going for.

Did seaon ticket holders get 1st priority for playoff tickets and the world series?
I've always said that once I graduate college my first big purchase when I get a real job will be 2 season tickets for the Rockets. I don't want to be left in the dust "once" the rockets make the finals if thats the case I might just play it game by game.

If you get a Rockets mini plan you are able to buy playoff tickets before the general public can also. A little cheaper if you can't afford the full season.

That was offered to me in cash outside MinuteMaid. I didn't want to get in trouble for selling it over there. Not to mention I dont feel safe taking $7K from just some random dude on a street corner.
I am probably going to list them up on stubhub. I dont know how stubhub works though. I want to list it on there because you can get a much better price on stubhub then ebay.

You should have received your tickets for potential 2005 postseason games at Minute Maid Park the week of September 26th.
Please make certain that everything is in order. If you hold parking during the regular season and opted to purchase for the postseason, your parking credentials are included. If you ordered Club Level passes, they will be sent separately.
